Some news this week: Don't get your hopes up about Medicare For All; Colin Kaepernick is still jobless so guys like Andy Dalton can throw for zero touchdowns and four interceptions; and apparently Rotten Tomatoes is causing people not to go see terrible, terrible movies.

It wasn't "free" at all, you do pay for it in taxes (at least in Europe that's how it works, both you and your employer pay a percentage of your wage for health insurance) but it's still cheaper than in USA, where they seem to value the liberty of pharmaceutical and insurance companies to make bigger profit over people's health.

Bishop38f8 It's pennies on the dollar. With my current income, I'd only have to pay $700 more a year in taxes, but my insurance payments come to $1320 a year. That's an extra $620 I could be saving every year.

G Washington, Ah see, that's not entirely the case. The government doesn't tell you which insurance company to use, that's entirely up to you. The government, however, will demand that you have a 'basic insurance'. In this 'basic package' consists of the usual things like visits to a general practitioner, hospital or apothecary/drugstore. This basic package is the same for everybody no matter a person’s age or health. Your health insurance company is, by law, obligated to accept you with this package. The costs of this basic package are also the same for everybody (no matter age or health). Now, I don’t really understand how you would lose your job over health insurance. But maybe I misunderstand you. I genuinely want to know, so feel free to answer. I can assure you when everybody pay’s the same amount of money, rates won’t go through the roof. The point is that it should be affordable for everyone. Now if you want add to your basic package you are free to do so (maybe dentistry etc.), off course for this you have to pay extra (this in generally where the health insurance companies make their money from). But because of the free market, as you brought to our attention, those insurance companies will compete each other, keeping the costs low. Don’t like your health insurance company? Change it for free! If they have a better offer, why not?

+G Washington: Oh yeah, while bleeding to death after being hit by a drunk driver I have plenty of time to shop around, check out reviews of various doctors, engage in that free market (which isn't free, it's run by cartels). I live in a country with 'socialised medicine'; we spend far less per person than the USA, achieve far better health care outcomes and no one ever has to wear a medical bracelet asking people NOT to call an ambulance because they can't afford it.

@happyflea
@happyflea 6 жыл бұрын
The government cares about my health in that they need me to be healthy in order to maximise productivity and make good on there considerable investment. I get free healthcare and education, they get a population with higher output per person and lower crime rates. Good deal all round. Plus you know, we elect them, including the government that set this whole system up so we chose to do this. Socialised medicine wasn't forced upon us from above, we (the general population) chose to have them implement it. A better question may be: 'Do you think your neighbour cares about your health.'

Most Americans don't realize healthcare isn't as expensive as they think. It's not 100s of dollars to fix a broken arm or 1000s to give birth and single payer healthcare would not only reduce out of pocket costs but overall costs as well

And then there is Canada and most of Europe which have the best medi-care systems in the whole world because they're government backed. And come on what's better? Paying 50 bucks per Month and getting mostly free and excellent care in exchange or paying tens of thousands at once and ruining yourself or getting no treatment at all even if you dearly need it, just because you can't afford it?
@splashdragon
@splashdragon 6 жыл бұрын
Leviathan 77 exactly! You can go to the dentist twice a year, have frequent health checks at your Doc, you get good treatment in hospitals for anything, and the insurances cover most forms of psychotherapy. And that's just about the basics of medical care. There is no "I can't go to the dentist to get a cyst removed, which will probably eat my jaw away, just because I can't afford it" - like, even if you have no job because god-knows-why you have a reserved spot in basic medical care that no-one can take away from you. And btw you have *the choice* to get private insurance with actual bills and shit. It's not taking anyone's freedom to have health insurance by law, it's giving you even more freedom.

Socialized health care provides no incentive for doctors to do well and give you good health care. It also gives everyone the feeling, "hey, ill just go to the fucking hospital for my fucking cold." Lines for health care in places like Canada are weeks, even months long. The doctor has no incentive to serve you fast or well.

You never really see people using reason and rationality to argue against Public health care. Instead the weapon of choice is fear. You won't get procedures, you will have to wait forever, there will be no private option. YOU ARE GOING TO DIE. People don't want to pay for other peoples health care but that is what Insurance Literally Is. They still pool all of the clients money together to pay for procedures when they are needed. The many help the few. The only difference is that with insurance companies you have a middle man trying to make a profit. How do you make a profit? You don't spend money on sick and dying people. It seems kind of obvious that Profits should not be an issue when dealing in the health care of the people.
@CuervoLetrado-

Assuming those ignorant deserves what's coming to them, that still leaves those unable to fight against it and others who tried their hardest to make a difference. Can you guys crack down on the rise of incest porn? I watch porn and have no problem with porn in general but it seems like someone should say something should say something about the rise in incest/step-relative fetish. The crazier shit gets in America the higher that shit seems to uploaded on the sites. Or I am the only one that has a problem with that behavior?

To get a bit serious here. Based on a TED lecture, things like that are about titillation, not about people actually being interested in those things in real life. The change is not in people's sexuality, but in availability. For example, anal sex is not remotely as common in real life as it is in porn. If you go back a few decades, any porn was a big thing. Now porn is mundane. And the mundane is boring.

Dsd Dsd2 where have I asserted that i am more intelligent? Where I thank the Cracked team for doing a good job? For admitting and observing that our current social and political state is a "cacophony of stupidity?" Or was it the fact that I used big words? What you see typed here is how I speak in everyday conversation. I am neither flaunting my intelligence nor am I putting anyone down for being less intelligent. I type how I speak, and I speak like those who have taught me: Neil DeGrasse Tyson, Lawrence Krauss, Richard Dawkins, etcetera. I do not feel superior to anyone because of speech, nor do i feel superior because of my education. Please let me know which word upset you and we can address the reasoning behind my choosing of it. But until then.....you spelled "STFU" and "fucking" wrong. And "more intelligent THAN you actually are." Not "that what." Just some friendly corrections 😁

0:16 Yeah, it’ll only cost trillions of dollars 0:21 And it will “largely” tax the extremely wealthy… Why the qualifying adjective? That means it won’t actually be that thing, hence the qualifying adjective… So it’s only half lying when you say it like that! 0:30 Yeah, what does that guy know? He only works in the business as, oh what’s that? He knows more than the clown asses who illegally “passed” the Unaffordable Healthcare-Ruining Act, known colloquially as Odumbass-care (it was not passed by the House of Representatives then the Senate, making it illegal) act that is the singular cause of the largest increase in healthcare costs in the history of mankind. Options HAVE been reduced, insurance companies are pulling out of the Oswastikare exchanges left and right, and in many cases there is only one option that is ludicrously overpriced expressly tailored by the federal government and the illegal law’s prescription. Remember, if you like your plan you can keep your plan, but all plans had to BY ORDER OF THE ILLEGAL LAW be ceased and redrawn to comply with the illegal law. Former Dicktator Hussein lied. He said “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor”, so long as they remained part of the plan, which many could not and did not… Former Dicktator Hussein lied, again. He said the “average family would save $2,500 a year” with Oswastikare, and yet by your own acknowledgment not only are they not saving costs have skyrocketed precisely because of Oswastikare. 1:05 The amount of irony in you so openly acknowledging the absolute cluster-fuck your lord-and-savior Former Dicktator Hussein made of the healthcare system and its costs, options, and availability is worth noting all by itself… 1:06 So, the cost in taxes would be comparable to what’s paid for premiums? Neat! Evidence, please… Oh, you don’t have any… You lied? Well that’s kind of sucky, why would you do that? Oh that’s right because you literally just said it would cost TRILLIONS @ 0:16 Well, let’s do what Cody wants to do, he wants to let out his inner Nazi (because that’s what Nazi literally means, National Socialist) and just steals all the money from the rich. So, for example, we look at the richest people in America, the Billionaires, like Bill Gates… He’s got a LOT of money that’s for sure, around $85 billion or so (plenty close enough estimate for sake of discussion), and he theoretically has access to many more billions through his charitable foundation(s) and the like. But it’s HIS money that’s apparently “evil” or some horse shit, so let’s focus on what Cody masturbates to, the idea of stealing from the rich to pay for other people’s things. How many Bill Gate’s fortunes would it take to pay for Universal Healthcare, well Cody already (accidentally) admitted it would be trillions (with a T, and plural, hence the S on the end)… and Trillion is a LOT LOT LOT more than billion, so it takes a lot of billions (and even more millions) to make just one trillion, and we need at the very least two when it’s actually closer to four, but let’s not split hairs, we’ll give Cody the benefit of the doubt since he can’t count higher than three, and call it an even two trillion. So going full-tilt Cody is a NAZI socialist-thief on Bill Gates, you’d have to steal basically 23.53 times his entire fortune just to reach that point… And since Bill Gates is the richest man on Earth, there aren’t 23.53 more of him to steal, Cody prefers “tax at 100%”, from. Well, let’s just say you do it anyway, just steal from, err “tax at 100%” from all the rich people and somehow make 2 trillion dollars (which you won’t by the way, there just isn’t that much the entire federal reserve supply (M0) is $1.2 trillion… That’s a hell of a lot of card swiping and account transfers… anyway, you steal/tax all the money from the rich… So how are you going to pay for the healthcare NEXT year? The rich are now poor, you’ve stolen all their money (that’ll show em!) and the economy would completely collapse driving a depression former Dicktator Hussein could only autofellate himself to in his wildest anti-American dreams. So now that there is no money, and no economy to make more, everyone will no longer need much in the way of healthcare options since they would be more likely contending with a mad-max scenario day to day. Cody, I think you got Universal Suffrage (a good thing) mixed up with Universal Suffering (not good thing)… I know, it’s hard for a Democrat to stop old habits. 1:17 So America being at 79.3 average and the best ranked Japan at 83.7 average is a margin of 4.4 years, again on average, is a 5.5485% margin… Statistically, that’s actually not particularly significant, in fact up to 3% is regarded as anomalous, and to even get out of the 70’s average life expectancy you have to go all the way down to rank 113 (Fiji) at 69.9 years and there are only 183 places for countries on the list. So, Cody’s impotent statistic is impotent. 1:20 Fourth highest infant mortality rate? Well, let’s check: www.worldatlas.com/articles/countries-with-the-highest-infant-mortality-rates.html 1 Angola 2 The Central African Republic 3 Sierra Leone 4 Chad and Somalia 5 Democratic Republic of Congo and Mali 6 Nigeria and Lesotho 7 Equatorial Guinea 8 Cote d'Ivoire 9 Afghanistan and Pakistan 10 Mauritania So the United States isn’t fourth highest in infant mortality rates, and in fact, three of the top ten are “tied” places, so that’s a top 13 list… What to know the United States infant mortality rate, it’s 6.5 / 1000 live births. The number four place has 85 deaths per 1000 live births, I would think Cody could tell the difference between 6.5 and 85, with or without the decimal, that’s a bigger number you see… Maybe Cody just got his “facts” from somewhere else… ok let’s try: www.infoplease.com/world/health-and-social-statistics/infant-mortality-rates-countries Looking at the list, I’m seeing a few larger numbers but mostly the same list of countries leading the pack with a change in ranking here and there, so let’s find the United States shall we? Oh, it’s still on there with 6.2… WELL, SURELY 6.2 deaths/1k live births make them fourth place per Cody repeating it SEVERAL TIMES in the video… Hmm.. no, that would appear to be Liberia this time, with 138.2… Maybe 6.2 IS actually more than 138.2 in Cody’s mind, after all, no facts have ever gotten in there yet, so why would this one be any different? 1:24 Maternal Mortality Rates? Well, let’s check those too: www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/rankorder/2223rank.html top ten: South Sudan, Chad, Somalia, Central African Republic, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Guinea-Bissau, Liberia, Sudan, Cameroon… Which one of those was the United States again? Oh that’s right, none of them… The United States is on the list, number 136 Maybe Cody knows something the Central Intelligence Agency doesn’t… I’m sure there’s a joke there… www.worldatlas.com/articles/countries-with-the-highest-maternal-mortality-rates.html Again, not even in the race with the front-runners… Maybe Cody is just quoting bullshit that agrees with his agenda? Surely that couldn’t be… but it so clearly is… 1:52 Not at all, in fact, I am all in favor of EVERYBODY “chipping in” to pay for their health care… Maybe what they could do is come up with a system where EVERYBODY is RESPONSIBLE for covering their share for their coverage… But you don’t want “everybody chipping in for every body’s health care”, you want ~some~ people paying for EVERYONE ELSE’S healthcare, as evidenced by the entire video up to this point. 2:00 But you won’t let the healthy and educated stand for freedom, which would be the ability to choose NOT to participate in universal healthcare (i.e. autonomous redistribution of your income to pay for other people’s things), you need them to pay for everyone else’s healthcare… Cody, are you getting your agenda mixed up again? You silly goose. 2:38 Cody demonstrates he doesn’t understand how averages work… You see Cody… Some people don’t live as long as others, regardless of their healthcare options, and some live much longer than others regardless of their healthcare options… The difference between the culmination of everyone’s life expectancy is called an average, and the more people a country has the more outliers they will have to their statistics, especially when that population is as diverse and free to choose (for better or worse) how they want to live. Again, compared to Japan, a nation of 127 million people, The U.S. has (just under) an extra 200 million people or so, with large ethnic and regional diversity providing for vast discrepancy in the overall cultural likelihood of life expectancy… Japan, on the other hand, being far more homogeneous population (Don’t get too excited Cody, it just means they have less cultural/ethnic diversity by volume) provides a more insulated statistical foundation from the inherent variabilities of peoples, cultures, ethnicities and lifestyles that can all have an impact in the longevity of a people… And for all of that, they are some ~5.6% longer lived… Again, a statistical molehill.

2:51 Aww, there’s that lie again… 3:03 Ahh Democrats thinking that their Racism is “ok” because it’s theirs, keeping to those old traditions I see. 3:12 So the STATING that someone can be fired from a PRIVATE EMPLOYER is the “advocating” for that to happen? Ok… Cody, apparently you don’t understand how words work… If she had said “she SHOULD be fired” that would be advocating for that to occur. The words “could” and “should” are not the same word, hence why they are spelled differently… You ~could~ be honest, is a statement of something you choose not to do. You ~should~ be honest, is my advocating you do something you choose not to do. 3:25 Is that why former Dicktator Hussein didn’t have Hitlary come back for the second term? She founded the “birther movement” after all in the 2008 election. www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/aug/22/fact-checking-media-yes-clinton-machine-did-start-/ “In a March 2007 memo to Clinton (that later found its way to me), Penn wrote: ‘All of these articles about his boyhood in Indonesia and his life in Hawaii are geared toward showing his background is diverse, multicultural and putting it in a new light,’ he wrote. ‘Save it for 2050. It also exposes a very strong weakness for him - his roots to basic American values and culture are at best limited. I cannot imagine America electing a president during a time of war who is not at his center fundamentally American in his thinking and his values,’ ” Bloomberg reported. But I’m sure it was the Russian’s fault that her campaign started it… 3:56 I’m actually going to give you this one Cody… You ~HAVE~ to know more about Sports than you know about politics, and since you did learn that Gridiron refers to the field, that something is automatically more than that the nothing you know about politics. 4:56 Kaepernick not being hired by an NFL team is ~NOT~ collusion… Again it seems I have to teach you what words mean: www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/collusion secret agreement or cooperation especially for an illegal or deceitful purpose Firstly there’s no secret agreement or cooperation, nor is it illegal to choose to not hire someone so long as you’re not specifically discriminating against them because of the applicant's race, national origin, gender, pregnancy, age, disability, or religion. None of which are Kaepernick’s problem here, he wasn’t hired because the NFL and it’s team owners have an entertainment brand they want to sell, and bad public relations (I frankly don’t care if he stands or not mind you) hurt both the team and the league’s public image. Whether or not Kaepernick’s protest is right or wrong in no way mandates an employer to hire him. So no Cody, you don’t know what collusion means, and Kaepernick’s problems are entirely of his own making. I’ll leave you to the hypocrite corner… You’ll be VERY comfortable there Cody.
