It's amazing how you control your progression. You're not starting with complicated project with big chance to failure. I see that you try to understand methodology and find confidence - It show again how great craftsmen you are Cole!. Maybe I'm wrong but you get joy from making something new to you (with technique that are new to you as well) - knife design (very simple I must say) was second priority.

This is 100% right. Definitely prefer to learn technique first and then slowly add difficulty each project. Thank you David!

Easy way to tell if it's hot enough is touch it with a magnet. If it won't stick it's hot enough. Also I would make it a habit to drill the holes before hardening.

Thanks man. i actually have already done the research to make kydex sheaths it is just a matter of purchasing the stuff the get it set up. near future for sure.

lol it takes a lot of patience and some practice. but the biggest thing is once the sand paper is worn out get a new piece. otherwise you are wasting your time.

I draw my knives. But you can search for knife templates on Pinterest or even Google.
