I just acquired a used craftsman compressor with the same problem. Thought I would give your fix a try, and it worked beautifully. The best part is that it took all of 10 minutes, and didn't cost me a dime. Thanks!!!

Awesome, man. Thanks. I've got the slightly larger model, but it's pretty much exactly the same setup. It's been sitting idle since 2016 because the piston had seized (someone drained the oil out without me knowing it and I think that's what caused it.) but thanks to your tutorial it's running like a champ again. Good job.

I wanted to thank you very much for this video! I have the exact same compressor and it gave me this humming sound. I thought it was toast, i followed this video to a T and it fired back up! Ps...that ring is called a "snap ring" and they make snap ring pliers, i got mine for like $5 at harbor freight and they made life alot easier with that dang ring!

They’ve sold basically the same compressor for decades. Mine is over 20 years old never had a problem.

This happens when the oil level is not checked regularly and is empty. It seizes up without lube like an old lady. Since I appear to be one of the only people who paid the retail price for this compressor and bought it brand new a few years back, I am definitely more appreciative for your video than most others. Where are all these yard sales and swap meets at!? I knew all that needed to be done was to get that fan spinning again. Curious if some WD40 would have loosened it up? I checked for something on here before attempting that and I’m glad that I did because I wasn’t sure exactly where it should be sprayed by the fan, or if it even would have worked.. So, Thanks for the tip! Working like new! 😁

That's a great deal 40 bucks and like brand new also a pretty easy fix. I fixed mine yesterday same problem. Got it going oiled it up and kept turning the shaft with a vice grip pliers until it was turning properly now it runs like new. It's like 20 years old and runs great now!

*I have a small garage and mostly just needed a compressor for tire pressure and the occasional air tool. I had been surviving on a cheaper brand for years until it broke.The difference is night and day. The motor fills the tank quick, it’s bigger than my old one yet less noisy, the regulated and tank controls are actually precise. Plus, it already comes with a lengthy hose and about any attachments you need for inflation.*

I have the exact same problem with a 6 gallon DeWalt. I used it a handful of times and then it did this. I already replace the start capacitor figuring that was the issue. It wasn't. Your solution seems promising.

I picked one up like this and was ready to take it apart and change the gasket and then got it going just like this. Then I didn't use it for months and got the same sticking. It appears to get stuck at Top Dead Center or doesn't have lube or something. So I gotta jigger it again, but I'd like to know how to properly maintain/store it if needed.

The little metal piece is called a snap ring, and I would definitely go ahead and change the oil.

is there a volume knob on these damn compressors
@Pooua2 жыл бұрын
A neighbor had one of these (with a 10-gallon vertical tank) out on the side of the road. She said I could take it, so I brought it home. It makes the same sound when it's plugged in. Manufacture date is 2014, and she said they rarely used it. Maybe the piston just dried out?

Making pump noise is not enough - what pressure dos it make how long to fill tank and shut off?

I noticed you didn't show the part where you removed the fan, and I'm having trouble holding the wrench. Can you show us how?

How much oil did the compressor have in it. The oil style compressors are not as noisy as the others.

Daaaamn. 4yo video but my same air compressor did that to me today.
@thewrenchjockey42513 жыл бұрын
It's called a snap ring btw. Also if it sat for a long time and only used once before, it probably never had a chance to get the bearing grease around and lock up the bearing

Usually when that happens the Capacitor is on the way out you spin it the piston happens to land on down stroke that is easy but next time it stops on the compression stroke it wont have the bolls to to compress and you will have to play with it again each time you going to start it , the capacitor is on top of the motor under the cover .i think is that gray one

Replace the capacitors. Its definitely the capacitors if you aren't using an extension cord. If you are, get rid of the extension cord and try again. Extension cords overheat and cause breakers to pop when they otherwise wouldn't. BTW, wear thick rubber gloves when replacing those large capacitors because even unplugged they could easily be holding a charge and could kill or hurt you badly. KZfaq: properly grounding capacitors before you begin.

Need the oil should be changed for one it probably doesn’t have full synthetic oil and two it probably has regular non synthetic oil and that’s why it sized up on him

@@Fasciseus exactly the problem I had with mine.
@1weirddoe5713 жыл бұрын
@@Fasciseus, are you finding that it takes longer to gain full pressure possibly because of blow-by around damaged rings? My unfrozen may be doing that since I had low oil or had it tipped too much.

You know those 2 capacitors there on top of the motor can be deadly, whether the electricity is on to the compressor or not.
