Crane man basket work | Using a hydraulic luffing jib

In this video I am using our Tadano 180g-5 to hoist a man basket up for cell tower work.
The crane is configured with 186 feet of main boom, 82 feet of hydraulic luffing jib, 53,000 pounds of counterweight.
The basket was the only option for reaching the top of the tower, as the climbers were not permitted to climb the tower. We hoisted the basket to a height of approximately 250 feet. Using a hydraulic luffing jib quite a bit on this job

Awesome! Best video you posted yet Sir. Just got my NCCCO certification last week. Discovering your KZfaq channel and watching all your videos, helped me, not only choose my next career, but also guided me through my own crane training. Would love to see in your future videos how you develop your lift plans, talk through your decision making while pointing your camera at specific load chart and range diagram for each complicated lift. That would be great help for people who are currently in training or for green crane operators like myself. Can't thank you enough for all your hard work and sharing your passion and knowledge with the KZfaq community. I have medically retired from EMS helicopter pilot career. I was still fairly young and wanted to do something, that somewhat resembled of what I used to do. You would be surprised, how much similarity there is between operating crane and flying helicopters. I am excited to start my new career. Thank you again. Be safe! - Kamil

Jimmy; That is so impressive. I would never dare hoisting a human being off of his/her boots, but you made that pick look as smooth as "smooth" gets! It gets crazy with only a few feet of rope below the tip. There's not much rope below to "catch" any swing. Big "brass ones"!

Nice job. Very smooth crane work. Too bad you didn't include the man basket procedures required beforehand like proof test and fifth cable installation, but I know you have to get the job done in a timely manner. One other comment I'd add is whenever I did this sort of work I would raise and lower the basket close to the tower since it a little less spooky for the folks in it to be close to something rather than being out in midair.

We've got equipmnt on one tower that the climbers can't climb because the ladder lugs busted off in a few spots and the owner is too much of a cheap *bleep* to pay to have a climb crew come out and replace them when he can force us (the companies that rent space on his towers) to use lifts & crane baskets to work on the tower and not have to pay.

Another great video from you. There’s no way I could be in that basket, the heights I have been is forty feet scared the heck out of me. That guy in basket is more of a man than I am. It’s never boring,love seeing different stuff. I was wondering about the counter weight, did you look on the chart to see what you need, being such a light load. What wind speed would have shut the job down? Stay safe you and your family at times like this.
@ToTheTopCrane
@ToTheTopCrane 4 жыл бұрын
We could actually do this job with one counterweight (26k lbs). But, I have found through trial and error that 53k lbs of counterweight puts an equal amount of weight on all four outriggers in this configuration. Which makes the crane as stable as possible. Many thanks for watching! 🙂🏗

When working with a man in a basket at those heights/distances, do you ever run a ground wire to bond the crane to the structure? I imagine the crane has a ground strap that's deployed when in use, but even then I would think there could be significant potential between grounds. Another reason to always keep your gloves on!
