Crank Scraper, High Volume Oil Pump, Oil Pan... Having fun with this Performance 454 BBC engine build... Now that we have the bottom end assembled its time to clearance the Milodon Crank scraper. Also the Oil pan is hitting the Milling Select Performance High volume oil pump so we need to clearance that and we also found a issue with the oil pump, so we are going to disassemble it to address what we found...
So lets get started...😀

I have a big block in a 1965 El Camino and my oil pan is sitting on the crossmember so it’s looking like I’ll need to pull the engine out to get to the pump. I wish I knew a little more about old cars or someone that could help - I’m just going to get in there and get after it!

Talk about detail on the pump. Most people will just mount them up and torque them down and keep going.

Thanks Hybrid Muscle Garage...There is a lot of detail work that can be done with parts these days... If you have the time, detail work is very rewarding, to put your care into the part... When I find a problem, I try to make it into a opportunity to better the build.. 👍

Great looking build,, & good tips. Boy, your shop is spotless,,and love to have a surface grinder setting in our shop. Is your mill a column or knee? Only saw the bed. Ours is an 80 Enco, but bought it at a steal, but handy for small jobs. I am going out to the job today to start on your design of the steady rest, Thx. Bear

Thanks Bear...The Mill is a Bridgeport knee style and the surface grinder is a old KO-LEE. Good luck with your Hemi lifter steady rest build... Hope to watch it on your channel...

How much clearance between the scraper and the rods and throws is best ? and is increasing that clearance beneficial or not beneficial to its usefullness?The name of it in itself denotes close clearances IE: scraper. Asking out of curiosity .

Why did you use a high volume oil pump?

Hi Charles... Its something I did put a good amount of thought into before going with the high volume pump... I knew the bearing clearances are going to be toward the upper end of the factory specs for this build and I also wanted to experiment with some lighter weight oils in this engine as well... Also trying to match the quality of parts used in this engine, I was looking for a higher quality pump then stock for this build as well. (I think this pump was only offered in high volume)... Didn't want to see on a good hot summer day a engine idling with low oil pressure.... Hope this helped...

@@Myersmetalworks thanks. I am planning my dream car,1968 camaro big block 427. I was reading an older book on big block builds and they recomended a standard pump for factory bearing clearances. Sounds like you have good reason for your choice. Thanks for the help.
