I had a similar situation happen to me: I was driving 25mph down a neighborhood road (with factory exhaust) when I noticed a woman walking 3 dogs in the middle of the road. I slowed down to 10mph and hugged the curb to give her space. My windows were rolled down so I gave her a little wave and a smile. She returned by leaning into my window and furiously yelling at me for "speeding down her road!!!" and much more.. Bitch I'm going 10mph while you're taking up the ENTIRE road when there's plenty of sidewalk. Some people just hate hate hate on us when we do nothing wrong. I feel you Gingium. #notwrongium

Luckily I came home from school and heard my cat crying! I jumper her fence and got my cat back!!!! This lady was awful!

I live in the countryside (so no cops anywhere all year round) and the houses are around 150m apart from eachother. When I got my new car, 1987 Golf Mk2 and made it loud and boosted it. My neighbor to the right is a crazy cat lady and complained because I was going fast, (speedlimit is 60km and I didn't go faster than 60 because the road is always fucked from rain and such.) So one day she went to my house and took my trashed old scooter about 50m down the road (?) before she probably got tired of the steering being locked and later she spray painted the tail and headlights + some of the paint and the rims of my buddys car (we were storing it for him he was away for a funeral) next day she came to our house probably scared of being filed by the police and she paid for paint-correction and new lights.

my story isn't about me personally but about my cousin. so he just bought a house and a new car which was a subaru brz and so he worked on it to. putting body kits on it and his neighbor complained and then my cousin apologized. but then the next night he went out with his friends to the bar and his house got broken into and his car got stolen (it was at his house because he carpooled and left it there). the next week it turns out the same neighbor who complained was the one who robbed him and the neighbors excuse was "he works in his garage to loudly". which i still don't get cause he soundproofed his garage so there was no sound coming out. so the neighbor was arrested for robbery and breaking and entering and my cousin got his car back. thats my story. i know its long but thats how it all happened.

I've been a mechanic for thirty some years and one thing I've learned is you have to respect your neighbors. When I moved into my neighborhood I introduced myself to the neighbors as being a mechanic. I do all the work for these guys now at cut rate prices. Our crazy neighbor across the street threatened to slash our tires bc our car was dirty then about a month later tried to sic his German Sheppard on our 5yo who was getting off the bus running to our door yelling "MAMA MAMA I GET TO GO ON A FIELDTRIP TO RIDE THE TRAIN" my husband called the cops and all the cops told us was they cant do anything untill something actually happens so we called the school and the school reported it bc my child is 1 of 3 who get off at that stop and the cops sat at the bus stop in the morn and afternoon for about 15 days to make sure that the kids were safe and once the cops stopped showing up he let his dog loose my husband had to shoot the dog bc it tried to attack the little girl walking home we recorded it to proove that the dog was gunning for her and trying to attack all we got was a slap on the wrist for shooting around kids we had to explain to the girls parents why we had to do it they did understand and were grateful that my husband had great aim the neighbor has since been evicted thank god

Back in my high school days me and all my friends had old jacked up loud trucks. At the time this crazy guy lived up the street from me who we called cigarette burn guy because he always had what looked like he was covered in burns from a cigarette. He would always come yell at us for speeding and revving up and doing burnouts and shit like that, now I will admit to a little speeding (like 20 in a 15) but none of us did burnouts or anything like that. To make a long story short he started to get violent shoving us and trowing shit at us, one day me and me and a friend were heading to my house after school and my street was blocked off by cop cars, when we asked the cops what was going on he told us that cigarette burn guy was a drug dealer and had a bunch of illegally owned guns and drugs in his house

Sorry if this is too long but oh well. I feel like putting in my 2cents since I am both a car enthusiast who works on his own car as well as a home owner and I've been on both sides myself. You're family were "those people", you know the ones that move into a nice neighborhood and ruin the entire dynamics of it. My family has been both "those people" as well as suffered because of "those people". Everyone in the neighborhood has a responsibility to not decrease the quality of living for each other and as a car enthusiast you are very easily capable of doing so which means it's your responsibility to do whatever in your power to make your hobby comfortable for the rest of the residents. Once you buy a home your perspective will change I guarantee it. One bad family can literally drive the prices of all the houses in that neighborhood down and since for most people their homes are their largest investment where they devote their savings to in hopes of getting it back when they sell it, it's a serious problem for them. I know through personal experience. My paren't home of 13 years has went down by $100k because of the neighbors that moved in 3 years ago. Their hobby is junk collecting, mud trucks and painting large swastikas on the side of their dog house and very badly made tree house facing the main street in the neighborhood. My parent's moved to that area to be at peace and enjoy their hobby's (Dad is into muscle cars) and not bother anyone. The neighbors had a different mind set and now my parent's are afraid to move since they lost $100k of the money they invested into their home (Original Price: $285K, Price today: $180K). They are now stuck hoping the neighbors will move so they can get that money back but I told them don't get their hopes up. You have to understand that our hobby sucks for everyone but us and your neighbors have to understand that people have all sort of different hobbies and not everyone's hobby is gardening. It's entirely about understanding and respecting one another and it has to go both ways. I make sure to keep my place clean and keep the noise down, my neighbors do the same. #respect

I feel you.... I live in an apartment complex that's pretty chill about people working on cars, but I really can't leave my tools out either.. So I end up using a friend's garage where all my tools are. But they use their garage, so it means I have to finish up any jobs I do in a single day. I really miss having a garage, and it really cramps my car style.

We got a nosy one that used to start allot of stuff in the family. For a short while she would hop in her van and come to the far end of her land to watch us come in and out. I stopped, backed up and watched her for a solid ten minutes until she left one day, she stopped doing it when I went in and out.

This one time me and my dad working on our 1969 Volkswagen bug and our neighbor came over and started yelling at us because we had to do body work late at night. We stopped and the next day he comes over and starts to spam our door bell at like 9 am and my dad and him start to yell at each other. Then my dad just walks back inside and that’s it as of now.

We unfortunately live in an HOA neighborhood, and surprisingly with all the car work I do (especially at night) I haven’t gotten any complaints from neighbors, but we’ve had plenty of issues with HOA directly. We’ve gotten plenty of warnings on our car for a tire being an inch on the grass, I had a car on jack stands for a while and no plate and got a warning for that, and a while back my parents had a huge legal fight with them over a pool membership. In our neighborhood, if a homeowner begins paying for a pool membership, that membership can’t be cancelled and is applied to the house permanently, so even future homeowners are forced to pay it, even if they don’t use it. HOA tried to claim that our house had the membership and they tried to force my parents to pay for it so they took em to court and won, now we have neighbors occasionally coming up asking what to do because they’re facing the same issue. Although more recently we haven’t had any issues with HOA because the lady who had the stick up her ass cruising around the neighborhood every morning looking for problems finally died.

I USED to live in a house that had a Home Owners Association . NEVER AGAIN. They complained about my paint color on my house , the old lady acrossed the street hated our dog and kept reporting that our dog barked too much , we got a fine for our yard being too high when we were out of town for 2 weeks on vacation . The yard wasn't even 3 inches high when we got back. I was tuning up my truck in my garage when the President of the home owners association stopped by my house and asked what all of the noise complaints were about . I told him he was crazy ! I was in my garage listening to oldies music at a low volume and working on my truck. If you walked to the end of the drive you could not even hear it. The old bag acrossed the street had nothing better to do than bother us. When we finally had an accepted offer on our house , I went to our final HOA meeting of that month and told everybody off. I pointed out the President , His Wife, the Old Lady Acrossed the street, and a couple of other jerks and told them that they are a miserable bunch of A-Holes . LOL. My Family will NEVER , EVER , Live in a community with a HOA again! It's like living in hell ! We bought a peaceful house with a woods so that we can do whatever we want to. Sorry that your having to deal with this crap Man !

A neighbor of mine came down the road waving her arms screaming, upsetting dogs on either side who just made even mote noise. Her complaint? My working was causing too much noise at 6:30 in the evening. Our local ordinances say 8am to 9pm as far as noise. To this day, all I remember doing was revving a small handful of times, not even more than 5.

Read all HOA rules before you move into a neighborhood. HOAs are created to preserve property values. Loud cars and loud music are two of the most frequent violations in neighborhoods with HOAs. Neighbors like the one you described in the video are the exception and not the rule. You can usually come to an agreement without having to come to blows.

My dad owned a trailer only drag car, which he worked on in the garage and driveway. Neighbors called the cops due to the noise (it was 2pm and there is no noise ordnance in the town) cops showed up and wound up laughing with us and taking the car for a joyride with me in the passenger seat. I’m talking 125mph+, nos and everything right past their house just to fuck with them. So they called again, more cops come and laughed their ass off at the neighbors after telling them it was an officer driving.

I had a old customer who lived in a HOA area but do to some backdoor she was not HOA. She would do stuff to piss off the HOA like paint her house some crazy color she liked when it came time for a new roof she asked for a list of what they allowed and picked one they didnt she even got a POS car and worked on it cause they didnt allow you to work on your cars outside besides doing basic maintenance. So with my company we got alot of work from her and finally got the story why she did that stuff witch was cause when she first moved in they told her she was HOA and had to pay and when she found out she wasnt she asked for her money back and they refused saying stuff like the lawn guy cut her grass (lie) and that the security looked after her house (lie). So she bassicaly did everything she could just to spit them but last i heard she moved and one of the other people there moved in and kept it going.
