That's the diversity of Sri Lankan people, people have "South Asian" faces, some have "Southeast Asian" faces, some look mixed, some look almost European. Many ethnic groups have settled and intermingled in Sri Lanka to create the Sri Lankan population: Sinhalese, Tamils, Moors, Malays, Burmese, Dutch, Portuguese etc.

What just happened at this place AluthKade went so viral. I think luckily you escaped it. But this street used to be very affordable and cheap street food prices. Some time ago, some people turned this into a place for scamming. Sadly, now it does not represent Sri Lankan street food. They are just putting up shows to scam people. Please let other know about this place where people get scammed and threatened by some bad people. The Sri Lanka police arrested that bad person for what they did to a tourist. Just to enlighten you guys Aluth Kade is 100% Muslim & the people speak Tamil as their mother tongue not Sinhala. Hence the slightly bemused expressions on their faces with your "hondai" & "kohomadhe". What they serve would be described as Indian fusion food which you are unlikely to find anywhere else in SL.
