Another superb and succinctly explained video ! A quick question: Would you sharpen these images with the individual stars in Lightroom before taking them over to Photoshop to make them streak? Merci Suresh Strasbourg, France

Great question! If it were me, I would sharpen at the end of my workflow.

Nice work. Question; what would cause banding or artifacts in Star Trails... Ive been told it can be camera calibation or sharpening prior to import to PS. Any insights?

Hmmmm. I would have to look at the images. You can send them to the email address listed at RMSP.com and I’ll take a look!

Hi!! This is a great video. I do have a question. Is there a trick or workflow to how to efficiently get rid of the airplanes and satellite trails from either the final flattened image or do you recommend going through frame by frame to remove them? If one has 300+ images, is there an efficient workflow to remove those artifacts? Lastly, how can we get the star trail images to come out with a smooth silky appearance? Is there a plug-in you recommend or is there any editing workflow for that? Thank you 🙏🏻

That's a great question. The best way I have found is to remove them on each individual image before stacking them in Photoshop. If you are looking for those super smooth stars, take a look at a program called "StarStax" that has an automatic gap filler that can help a lot!

@@forestchaput thank you. I do use StarStax. I wasn’t aware of creating Star Trails using Ps until I saw your video. Yes, I thought you’d tell me to go through each individual frame to clean up artifacts. Lol. I wish there was an easier way to do that. Now, this is what stumps me. I recently created a trail where l went through each of my 300+ frames in LrC to remove the airplanes, satellites, lens flares using its version of Patch tool. But to my surprise when I synced all the settings for those 300+ photos and exported them to a folder to do Timelapse in Ps and Star Trails in StarStax, those airplanes etc were still there!!! Was my workflow flawed? What technique do you use? Would you have a tutorial video for that? Thanks.

Hey man just wanna ask if we can directly import images to photoshop without importing them to lr and edit and blend them there???
@forestchaput

Yep! Just open Photoshop and go to File -> Scripts -> Load Files Into Stack... (That should work perfectly!)

Hi! Is there a way or certain day you can capture the galaxy the best? If so can you make a video on it? Please

Great question! The simple answer is that it depends on your location and the time of year. Here in Montana the Milky Way is best seen in the late summer. You can download apps that can show you this for your specific location. Great idea for a video though, I'll add it to my list!

my layers palette greyed out when im trying select lighten ,how to get it active . cs5.
@forestchaput
@forestchaput 5 жыл бұрын
That's most likely because of the old CS5 version. The older versions of Photoshop were missing many of the features used in this video. Alternatively, check out a program called StarStax, it might work well for you!

Thanks Forest! This is a very helpful video and I appreciate you sharing the information. Two nights ago I shot a time lapse sequence of the stars and Milky Way from Seneca Lake and with these instructions from I turned them into a star trail image: plus.google.com/photos/photo/106942388277613691204/6445397043157514418?icm=false
