Ingenious! The creator must be an engineer. Only one point of correction, though, and it’s a pretty major point. The shears in the video are bypass pruning shears and the section on sharpening is incorrect. First, you do not need to sharpen the lower arm of bypass pruning shears. Only the upper arm does the actual cutting. Second and much more important, you should not sharpen both sides of the upper arm of bypass shears. For anvil shears, yes, but not for bypass shears. It will damage and dull the shears if you do. You should ONLY sharpen the angled (beveled) side. Once you are completely finished sharpening the angled side, you make ONE swipe on the other side - the flat side - with whatever you used for the final sharpening on the angled side. This is to remove any possible burrs. But that’s all. Some experts say not to even do that much - that just opening and closing the shears will remove any burrs on the flat side. Aside from that, I loved the video. The section on sharpening should be redone and the video titled, “A Geek’s Guide to Pruning Shears.”

Excellent video. I have used this method to restore some vintage steel Tonka trucks, although I used washing soda instead of salt. Ignore the "experts" who have no respect for the thought and work that go into making your videos - if there is something truly unsafe or could be done a better way, let them say so politely.

Is it possible to use a smaller power supply?
@chrissedwick7748
@chrissedwick7748 21 күн бұрын
Yes, I think all is actually necessary for electrolysis of iron is a couple volts at 2 amps. However, it will take more time and the distance between your anode and cathode must be shorter. For a deeper dive, look into electro plating (overarching idea) or rust removal by electrolysis (this specific use).

@@Jari1973 that's how lots of people do it. Though I'm not sure how an a charger with an automatic/ maintenance-free mode would take to being attached to electrodes. It would probably just go full bore.

@chrissedwick7748 15 күн бұрын
@@Jari1973 the key point of all of this is you can't use alternating current. It has to be direct current. AC would take metal off at the negative peak and put metal right back on at the positive peak (sin wave lol).
