He quite obviously lowered the “phone” as anyone would in that situation. Which makes sense why he would keep the phone up because that’s been done in thousands of movies and tv shows when someone is on the phone and then they take the phone away from their ear/mouth and say something to someone standing beside them. @H J Not sure where you are getting your information, however please stop spreading fake information. Someone might belive you. If you only have one line of credit and you cancel a card it can cut your credit score and available credit by half. Other factors play into it aswell, however best practice is to never have to cancel a card. Do your research before getting a credit card. Even if you only use it once a month, that will likely be the better option than canceling it.

That law literally says 2/3 of the pro rata, not 2/3 of the bill. Are you going to spend hours on the phone for around five weeks of your cc fee? If you have a 700 a year fee, your time is very likely worth more than that.
@MultiJohn12321
@MultiJohn12321 Жыл бұрын
It literally says “on a pro rata basis.” You get the *prorated* portion of two-thirds back. Not the entire two-thirds. So in this case, you’d be refunded two-twelfths (corresponding to the two months you didn’t use) of two-thirds of $695. In other words, about $77.

If you make an informed decision to open a credit card with an annual fee that high, then you're likely of the type who believes in never leaving money on the table. The vast majority of people would just be throwing money out the window with such a card, but for those few people whose spending habits match the features of the card, high-fee cards can yield more money/value back than zero-fee cards.

@Jon651
@Jon651 11 ай бұрын
If you don't pay any annual fees, instead of cancelling a credit card sometimes it's simply better to put a freeze on the card and just cut it up. Why? Because if you cancel a card you no longer have that amount of credit - and decreasing the amount of available credit you have can negatively impact your credit rating. Plus if you have more than one credit card from the same issuer (a bank, for example), instead of closing one or more for lack of use it is better to call the issuer and see if they can consolidate all of you cards into one with the most favorable terms. This will allow you to keep ALL of your available credit but just on one card without taking a hit to your credit score.

@@abigmonkeyforme "The history of a closed account stays on your credit record". This is inaccurate because of two omissions. First, while closing the account does not _immediately_ remove the card from your history, it does remove it from the active history. Closed accounts do still count towards history, but they're not included in all value calculations. When looking at credit history, they look at oldest card age, newest card age, and average age. Depending on the age of the canceled card vs your other cards, closing a card can impact two of those 3 values. Second, it will be removed from the history after a few years, it doesn't remain indefinitely, so merely stating that it stays on your record is incomplete.
