Creep is a 2014 Netflix found footage horror/thriller. In this video, I show why I think it's one of the most unsettling movies on Netflix, by going through it’s very strange plot.
A man answers an online ad and goes to a stranger’s house to film for the day. The man wants to make a movie, but his requests become more bizarre as the day goes along.

A lot of people are giving the main character a hard time about not running away and making poor decisions. However, this is a phenomena that I have heard detectives talk about in murder cases. Where people will put themselves in the worst positions possible just to avoid being rude. Even when all the alarm bells are going off, their brain will tell them that its probably all in their head because the chances of overreacting and making a scene when its not really a danger supersedes the fight or flight response.

yeah i don't think the point was about Aaron's stupidity or naivety.. it's the fact that things get increasingly bizarre and Aaron never gives up on Joseph (demonstrating compassion and humanity, qualities Joseph lacks). Pretty sure this is clearly stated as well in the movie..

@@grant46n2 Yeah, this guy cut that entire part out of Josef's last message to Aaron, where he talks about how Aaron was always willing to believe in the good of Josef (or something akin to that, it's been a couple weeks since I saw it). A bit disingenuous imo, since that was pretty obviously the point of Aaron's character: a guy who wanted to see the best in people.

Both movie are found footage masterpieces. The best of the genre, even better than blair witch or the first Paranormal Activite. The first one is a hounting, fun, dark humor experience, with an ending that sticks to the head, the second one is a fun exploration of what and psycopat looks like, leaning more to the comedy than the horror side. Both movies are amazing. Still waiting for the third movies as well

I tried putting myself in protagonist's shoes, trying to be as reasonable as possible, dismissing as much red flags as possible and ended up coming to a conclusion that I should get out of here at the same time as protagonist. However, the second half is just the dumbest shitshow I've ever seen. I'd be paranoid af after escaping this guy, but protagonist is just chilling in his house, and doesn't even bother calling the police. Like, if I was in that situation I never would've watched these tapes. And are you seriously telling me that every single one of his victims was as dumb as the protagonist? I think that would be both to encourage the feeling of isolation and also a budgeting issue. Just being all alone with a weird man who becomes increasingly weird because he’s only testing his boundaries. But Aaron probably was broke. He chose camera work and isn’t in the top tier of it, of course he’s probably broke. His desperation led him to a weird situation. Aaron actually seems kinda sweet, but yes, he was dumb. I don’t think he should’ve died for it though, and I am an avid supporter of Darwinism because it’s real.

Its very instructive the way Joseph grooms Aaron by immediately violating more vague minor social boundaries (not being on time, unwanted hugs) to see if he accepts it, then slowly increasing his violations of Aarons boundaries. With any new person, even ONE very minor boundary violation - ie a jumpscare, doing or getting you to do anything you at first didnt want to, no matter how small...and btw *any* lie is a boundary violation if it *isnt* either prosocial or to maintain emotional privacy (ie prosocial is a "white lie" of the "sure, yea you can pull off that look " or "your job sounds interesting" type and emotional privacy is "im not sad im fine" variety. These get a pass from ppl the more of a stranger they are to you) is reason enough to immediately terminate relations. HOWEVER some people on life truly are socially bumbling and accitentally rude, so if its ONLY ONCE you can choose to stay but proceed on *high alert* and be ready to leave if it happens again.. HOWEVER, IF someone *Repeatedly* violates your soft/tiny or less consequential/important boundaries, that is a sign they are *predatory* and either calculating or deeply instinctively dominating and either way you must *refuse to accept it*! No matter how petty you think you appear, no matter how reasonable their excuses may seem or how pitiable their apologies. No matter if you realize it really didnt bother you and you maybe didnt need that boundary, it was superficial *that doesnt matter*. What matters is they chose to do it anyway. *You are being groomed to be seriously violated*. Whether its a physical or sexual attack coming, a theft, con, or possibly your murder. Get far away from them immediately.

Can you elaborate? I'm too dumb to understand this
@looFA_4
@looFA_4 9 күн бұрын
@@Kerina77 Long story short is people who repeatedly violate boundaries are usually trouble whether they do it intentionally or not, so be firm and be clear, don't be afraid of any social unrest if that's the price of not allowing someone to violate your boundaries. If you still don't get it, I can try explain it again but in my own words but that'll have to wait a few hours because I'm going to sleep soon. Here's a chatgpt rewording of OP's comment because I'm feeling lazy. When someone repeatedly violates boundaries, it’s often a deliberate process to test and gradually break down another person’s defenses. For example, Joseph might start with minor social boundary violations like being late or giving unwanted hugs to see if Aaron will accept these small breaches of his personal space or expectations. If Aaron accepts these minor violations, Joseph can then slowly push the boundaries further, each time testing how much more he can get away with and increasing his control over Aaron. Recognizing the red flags in boundary violations is crucial. Even minor boundary violations, such as a jumpscare or persuading you to do something you initially didn’t want to do, are significant. These small actions cross your personal comfort zone or expectations. Lies can also be boundary violations. While prosocial lies (small lies meant to protect feelings, like "You look good in that outfit") and emotional privacy lies (lies to protect one’s own emotions, like "I'm fine" when sad) are usually acceptable, especially from strangers, other lies and boundary breaches are not. When you experience a boundary violation for the first time, you might choose to give the benefit of the doubt, as some people might be socially awkward or unintentionally rude. However, it’s important to stay alert and be ready to take action if it happens again. If someone continues to violate your minor boundaries repeatedly, it’s a red flag indicating potentially predatory behavior. This person might be either calculated or instinctively domineering. It’s crucial to refuse to accept repeated minor boundary violations, regardless of how trivial they might seem. Accepting small violations can lead to more serious breaches later on. Continuous boundary violations can escalate to more harmful actions, such as physical, sexual, or emotional harm, theft, or even more severe crimes. If someone keeps pushing your boundaries, it’s essential to distance yourself from them immediately to protect yourself from potential harm. Always trust your instincts and maintain your boundaries to safeguard your well-being.

6:15 this also means he was lying about the animal pron situation with his wife, meaning at least from my understanding, that he fantasizes about his "wife" enjoying getting r'ed by a man in a wolf mask she didnt even was him, yeah, that left me with such a uneasy gross feeling in my stomach

I totally thought this was going to be just another dumb horror movie because I’ve never heard about it. But this is a million times better than any horror film I’ve ever seen. It really gives you a strange feeling watching it which is what a good horror film should always do instead of just the bunk jump scares and brutal executions for no reason

Exactly. I forget what it was called but watched a random horror film last week. It was a dogshit movie tbh but it was like a fever dream that just gave me this super unsettling feeling. All a jump scare does is spike your heart rate for a second, but that unsettling kind of feeling sits with you for a while.

When I watched this movie and Aaron put the benadryl or whatever in Josef's drink, I was so convinced in that moment that it was gonna be a huge twist that Aaron was the creep, and that Josef's quirks were genuinely just him being a weird dude. I thought that they built Josef up as the creep/villain so that we wouldn't expect it to have actually been Aaron. I was so convinced that this was the case, that I was ironically kinda surprised when Josef was the creep all along. I think that this could also have made a pretty good story/twist if it had happened.

I thought the only positive was Mark Duplass, he kept me interested. I thought the scares were bland and sometimes cringy (not in a good horrific way) but to each their own. It’s definitely not half as bad as a lot of the original slop on Netflix.

I like how Josef is basically an evil Michael Scott from The Office - Both of them are really weird and awkward loonies with bad social skills, but while Michael is fundamentally well-intentioned and his cringe is played for laughs, Josef is a merciless psycho who only wants to indulge in his twisted desires and his cringe is played for scariness. EDIT: Word choice.

I love that most of these movies take place in huge houses that, at least where I live, most people just cannot afford. If you're trying to act all psycho while trying to enter in a one bedroom apartment, be ready to be full of lead the moment you get through that door. Mind you, the only entrance to the place.
