Both SDSU and Creighton were ranked to end the year, and SDSU won their conference. Neither are a surprise, both very complete teams

Big reason why they finally made it to this rage is cuz Kalkbrenner is finally healthy for the tournament the past couple years he’s been banged up so it’s limited them a lot

They’re kinda just now starting to be a relevant program. They were mostly a strong mid major school who would sometimes shake things up by winning a game in the tourney. But after hiring McDermott and getting into the big east they’re slowing leveling up.

things have just never lined up for the program until now. The '13-14 team was good, but NEEDED to hit a ton of 3s to beat other top teams. They got embarrassed by Baylor in round 2. The '16-17 team was very good, top 10 with future NBA guys Khryi Thomas and Justin Patton, but Mo Watson tore his ACL in january and they sputtered. The 2020 team was also very good but the season got shut down by COVID. Trey Alexander said it best. They are the best recruiting class (Trey, R2, and Kaluma) to ever come to Creighton. The guys who came before them (Doug, Wragge, Manigat, Zierden, Watson, Thomas, Patton, Foster, Ballock, TyShon, Zegarowski) paved the way for this team to be in a position for a deep run.

They were in the Missouri Valley conference until they recently joined the Big East. Extremely hard to make an elite 8 or higher if your not in a power 6 conference

@TrippleC they've been in the big east for nine years. I know that the odds were way stacked against them when they were MVC. But Coach Mac really upped the recruiting from '14 to '16. They've been knocking on the door of this run for quite some time.

Both teams were impressive but the big guy for creighton was the difference. Princeton kept fighting though, but creighton was too hot in the beginning of the 2nd half.

obviously Creighton was the more talented team here. This is proof that if the more talented team just executes accordingly, the chances of an upset are close to none. And Scheierman's Joe Ingles 2.0. Kaluma has a little Pascal Siakam in him, too.
