Paul, I love you!! I can't describe how happy I was to find that I don't need to go to all the fuss with check valves for the map sensor and extra fuel controllers and manual timing adjustments and so on. I didn't know it was possible to tune the p28 in my del Sol to boost the engine properly, let alone do it yourself. Man, I am so happy you put this tutorial on! I am going to save up money for the turbo quicker from now on and I will use your videos to help me crome tune my Sol! Thanks a lot, keep it up!

No problem. I have a series of videos that I'm going to release which will teach you all you need to know to start tuning from the street to the dyno. It will most likely be on Udemy as a class course. I'm not done yet so hopefully it will be there when I'm done.

You'd have at least one customer here, I live so far from a good tuner that I'm stuck doing it myself. Would be more than happy to pay for a good course on it. Seems like there's info everywhere but not just one solid walkthrough - and I have a super hard time figuring it out without watching someone else do it first.

That is exactly my problem, with every complicated thing. Because my car is so rare (especially over here) I can't find a thing for it if it is not the same as the Civic on which it's based. Neither information nor performance or tuning parts. With this, I had to search for information on tuning by engine model, but not many people specify posts that way. Paul is really helping me out. Also, I certainly agree with you on being prepared to pay him for the perfect and thorough tutorials

brock, I use to own a dyno shop. I ran it for 2 years providing dyno tuning before I sold it to a buddy. Before that, I did street tuning for evos, sti, nissans and honda. My specialty has always been hondas. Anyways, it's not hard to start tuning. You just have to understand some engine theory to understand what its doing when you modify the fuel and timing. Get a base map going so the car can start and run. Next focus on dailing in the part throttle (cruising) fields.

Brockxxxxsamsom you are on the right track. Tune low cam first, then high cam. Lay the dyno charts on top of each other. There you see the torque curve intersect, thats about the area where you want the vtec crossover. Your HP curve should look pretty linear (all motor setups that is). I usually start with idle and part throttle tuning on the street to ensure map for daily cruising. Once I"m done with that, then I dyno it doing full throttle only. I use to own a dyno (and shop)
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 11 жыл бұрын
Since I sold my shop, I try to do everything before going to the dyno. Usually I go to the dyno to verify my numbers and hp/torque curves. Tune fuel first, then timing. Most of the time the timing needs to be done on the dyno because you're looking for torque increase. Fuel can be tuned on the street if you have a wideband. I hope this makes sense to you.

You can't in stall crome on a mac. What you can do however is to install a virtual application that can host windows 7, then install crome in windows 7. In my case, I'm using vmware fusion for mac. This gives me the ability to install windows 7 in my mac environment. The other option is to set your mac for dual boot.

tracerx13 1) You should adjust the CC for your engine. Also note though that it will or may not let your engine run or start. You may still need to tweak the fuel settings to get your car running to the point where the basemap is useable.
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 10 жыл бұрын
Lastly focus on tuning full throttle. I usually start with the fuel and when its good (make no more power on the dyno), then I back off a little and then tune the timing. For timing, I monitor torque to see if advancing timing will make more torque. Hopefully that makes sense.

pretty interesting, also makes me feel better about not trading for cars that are running on basemaps and have not been tuned on a dyno yet. Maybe one day I will decide on a jsrc or turbo setup..

Thank you, this is excellent. I want to tune my own car,I've been researching it for about 1.5 years already, there's a lot out there about engine theory but not much as far as implementing the knowledge. It always ends with "just bring it to a dyno and let someone else tune it." Anyway, here's my question. If i want to tune myself what would be the procedure with a running basemap? Disable vtec, and just work on lo cam fuel and spark, get it running safely and and close to stoich,(rich in
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 10 жыл бұрын
tracerx13, 2) You have to account for overboosting. I usually add a tad bit more fuel on the top columns just in case boost spikes up a bit. Highlight the columns above 8lbs and add in like 5% fuel (this is base on fuel injector size) 3)It will work on other ecus as long as its the same ecu type or family but it wont work for an auto setup.

This vid has been great so far, thank you. I have three questions, 1) Do you need to adjust the CC of the motor if you're not running what the B16 is? 2) If you're only running 7psi do you zero out the higher boost columns? 3) And is this map ok to use if I don't have a P30? I have a P75 A51 in an H23 Auto Turbo Prelude
@kylemilford8758
@kylemilford8758 5 жыл бұрын
Hell no. the map has to go from left to right increasing VE the whole time. You cant zero out the right side of the maps. Change the interpolation targets to make the last couple cells only a couple pounds over your target boost and set it rich & lower timing in case you get a boost spike you can keep it safe

Hi Paul I have a d16z6 turbo but on the free version of crome I cannot add boost table, can I open a p30 basemap instead of the p28 and do some changes? If so which one? Thank you for your time

yes. Use the p30 map and add in the boost tables to that file. It will work just fine on your setup.

so what are those numbers in each cell? i can see that the 3rd row from the top shows the manifold pressure, but what does each number represent in the colored cells? for fuel map. thanks for any help
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 10 жыл бұрын
they represent miliseconds an injector is opened according to the developer. The higher the number, the longer the injector will open. It controls the pulse width sent to the injector. For spark table, it's the actual spark degree before top dead center. I hope that makes sense.

Hey Paul this video was 8 years ago but I have an H22a1 swapped civic, I thought everything in the swap was stock but upon research for my turbo build I discovered my ECU is chipped. I want to tune it using crome, and understand the concept, but I have no idea where to find a basemap or how to connect my laptop to the ECU. Should I even attempt to use crome now or buy a new chip and try newer software? Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks for reading.
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 2 жыл бұрын
Crome will work just fine. You'll need to go to moate.net to get the hulog for datalogging and the burn2 for flashing the chip. H22 basemap would have to be created or you can probably google the maps as they are readily available online.

the best thing is to put it on a dyno. It sounds like you already have a good basemap in place. Check to also make sure your compression is good across the cylinders to make sure the engine is healthy.

Paul, Do you need to remove the chip to burn it every time you change the tune? Or is there a way to make table adjustments on the fly? I am looking at getting an SST reburnable chip installed in an obd1 b18 non-vtec engine. the ecu is only $150 and the chip comes installed. I will probably need some sort of writing too for this as well, but I am not sure if road tuning is an option with this tuning software.

I set this turbo map up on my LS integra in this fashion. What would help me control the idle on it so that it idles nicer. Right now I have solid mounts and the car viciously rattles and hunts for an idle. I have it with factory settings for idle target. What should I adjust?
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 10 жыл бұрын
adjust the top left column for idle. A richer fuel will give a more steady idle. give it a try. 750rpm should be fine unless your on large injectors like 1000cc+ (set idle rpm at 1000 if you're on larger injectors)

@PaulVang
@PaulVang 6 жыл бұрын
Fuel map numbers = The duration of time the injectors are set to be opened measured in milliseconds. You cannot tell just by looking at the map. There are too many variables involved. You can get a general idea if the map is any good if you knew the injector size, engine setup, all motor / boost, etc. After doing it a long time, you start to see a pattern and understand how things should look like.

@PaulVang 9 жыл бұрын
The more columns, the more resolution which means a more accurate tune however it would still work with less columns. With a simple setup, that would work fine. Keep in mind though that if boost fluctuates between 9 and 10 lbs but the column only shows 8 or 10 psi, then you are going to have to adjust column 8 and 10 hoping that the air fuel, when hitting the 9psi, is satisfactory.

I have a doubt. Does the p30 turbo map work on a p28 ecu? thanks
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 6 жыл бұрын
yes it does but you have to disable the knock sensor on the p30 map since the p28 ecu does not have the hardware to support it.

Where are you located? And Yes I need a car to record while tuning. This will give users an idea of how it's done. Let me know what kind of car you have. I'd like a clean EG / EK /DC for the video recording.

bro need help how to setup fuel pressure regulator??
@PaulVang
@PaulVang 8 жыл бұрын
Just hook one up without the vacuum line to it. BLock both ends so that air dont leak in. See what the pressure is at. Then adjust it to 43psi. Lastly, just plug in the vacuum line back on.
