Thanks for the video, Lee. Crossfire might be my next step, but I’ll probably get the tango 2 radio, to save me from the hassle of working with the module and my old qx7
@HDgodfrey
@HDgodfrey 3 жыл бұрын
Main reason I haven't gone to crossfire. I invested in a qx7 right after they first came out (b4 crossfire existed) and even though I would likely not notice the added delay if I used software fix and with my skills could most likely do hardware mod I just can't bring myself to spend that much when I won't get full use or will have to risk my radio with mod.

On my 5", I have the T mounted horizontal, at the rear on a 3D mount so the tips are not touching the rear arms. On 100mW (am I right this is max for UK?), I can get about 400-500m flying away from me (ideal alignment) before it drops into the 50Hz range (100-199 LQ). It often won't get back to 150Hz till it's very close in; presumably due a worse alignment. I had sort of assumed that, even on a freestyle quad, i'd never drop out of the 150Hz band on 100mw, FPV flying at my flying club. Unrealistic expectation?

Nice overview! Been flying CRSF on multirotors for a while. Now interested in exploring some fixed wing flying. I have been setting up a simple foam plane with the TBS 6ch PWM adapter. On the back of the PCB there are pads marked VRx, Vsens. I am hoping this might send Rx battery voltage back by telemetry, but cant find any documentation on this feature. Do you have any details you can share about this?

Hey Lee. I have a quick question I hope you can answer: On the Crossfire Diversity Nano (and maybe full size as well), how do you keep the GPS powered while it's in beacon (find) mode? I can't figure it out. When I disconnect the main lipo, the RX stays alive but the GPS goes dark. I don't get it. Is there a hidden 3.3v or 5v output on the RX or something? I could connect it directly to the 1s backup lipo but that would mean death for the battery pretty quickly unless I remember to disconnect it every time I land. Hope you have the answer.

Hello Lee. I hope you are doing well in the lockdown. The US doesn't seem to be too far behind the UK. I am planning to switch over to crossfire from Frsky. But today I went to purchase Crossfire at TBS site and the price has dropped $50USD. Do you know if there is a new version about to be released? If so, i will wait for the new version. Thank you and keep up the great videos they have helped me tremendously. Roger

I could not get my nano RX to bind, with Mircro TX 2 (both new, out of the box). Took a while to figure out, but finally got it to bind. Had to go into Agent X, Triple dot menu (top right), check the "include beta firmware" box. Go back to "XF Micro TX", Click Firmware, and updated to 4.0. After update, I was able to update nano rx, and bind. From update release notes "- fixed: Bind issues for some units" Post as of: 08-30-2020

I am a back yard RC flyer of foamie planes and an assortment of FPV mini quads. I use Taranis X9D and X-Lite. I have a variety of receivers, but for the quads it is exclusively the XM+. Checking out the Crossfire gear, I wonder what would be the benefits I could expect for the investment. I don't fly further away than I would care to have to walk to find and retrieve my model and I am not into racing - Cinewhoops are my favorite, but I do have a Tiny Hawk and a 7" cruiser quad I built too. Your thoughts?

A lot of the BNF systems offer Crossfire but in terms of the benefits for the way you fly they are limited. The CRSF protocol is faster than SBUS and you might be able to fly safely in places with too much interference for 2.4ghz...Happy flying

I want a crossfire tx module and a walksnail fpv rx module on a tripod with as long of cables as practical so i can put the tripod up higher and get all around better range . Or watch fpv on a video projector screen or sit in shade on a hit day . Spotters can run around in the sun . Does a shielded cable between the tx and the crossfire module have a limit to a few meters ? I want the module up higher on the tripid and me still on the ground . Knowing the little I do about wave propagation, I do not understand why they are going with 2.4. Basic physics (maybe not so basic) make it impossible for it to penetrate better or travel farther. Not to mention interference. Admittedly I'm ignorant of the difference in the new long range 2.4s vs old school 2.4. If I hadn't used dji 2.4 I'd say it was all hype and lies but ive used 2.4 that out does my long range. I don't understand it though if what Ive read and been tought about these very topics was true.

@@Painless360 Thanks. I'm looking to extend the range of my sik radios to be more in line with my Rx8R pro/ x8r receivers. This would allow me to ditch the sik radios as well then, right? Is this why people are using TBS Crossfire? Can you suggest anything like a longer range sik radio? Is that what Crossfire is for? Is so, can I install redundant receivers with Crossfire like I use with RX8R Pro and X8R? For example, If I need two receivers for the aircraft, and another one on my gimbal, can I do that like I can with X8R? Connect to all three at the same time? I realize I can use TBS Crossfire from the external RX while also using the X8R from the internal module of the Taranis, but I want to use only one protocol, is that possible?
@Painless360
@Painless360 Жыл бұрын
That is a huge number of questions. Here are the short answers: 1) It could, depends on what you use them for 2) For long range, Crossfire is hard to beat 3) Yes and flying in places where 2.4Ghz doesn't work well 4) I don't think you can. Maybe as you can bind multiples.. 5) If you want only one protocol then not with Crossfire and FrSky

I can't seem to figure out an answer to this, but if I have a Crossfire Micro and a Flight Controller with pins installed, how would I wire that up? The Crossfire Micro comes with smaller cables that don't have the typical Servo Leads at the end. Would I just have to remove the pins from the FC and solder directly, or is there a cable I could find? I tend to swap Rx's on my FC from time to time which is why I have pins soldered on.

Dumb question but when you install Crossfire can you still fly your models that aren't running crossfire receivers. For example I have quads with Frsky receivers but want to run Crossfire on a long range quad build. Is it just a matter of setting up the model in the transmitter to use the Crossfire module instead of the built in signal?

Thanks for doing it=) I would have a question tho i would like to try and maybe use it on a plane aswell and i am currently looking at what antenna would be the best for long range and a strong signal but since a plane is a bit different i would like to maybe if its possible back the reciever up with a traditional 2.4 ghz diversity receiver so that if one fails there wont be much damage. and since the Radiomaster for example have both 2.4 internal and 900mhz external capabilities i wondered if you would be able to set it up in such a way =) Thank you so much and I hope you can get that to work ! =)

At 3:04 you mention that FrSky radios have a slow inverter, which do not allow the crossfire tx to run at full speed. Does this apply to the x9d too (and would I need to do the hardware mod for this radio too), or does that run the crossfire micro tx v1 at full speed?
