I fly fixed wing, helicopters, and quadcopters. Why wouldn't I come here to learn and grow? Are guys who fly quads only into quads and guys who fly fixed wings only into fixed wings? If that's true for some, that's totally fine. But why would anyone assume that?

Amazing coverage of RC control links! I've just entered the FPV hobby with a whoop 3 months ago with a X9D+ and XM+. I have been following this channel and others for a couple of years coming from flying Yuneec/DJI camera/video drones. ELRS 900MHz and 2.4GHz are amazing. Look forward to getting more FPV drones and trying out these new RC control links.

The updated segments are the entire ELRS segment at 27:45 and a note about ACCESS receiver at 10:46. Regarding the comparison between Tracer and ELRS at around 28:47, the reason Tracer has much shorter range is that it's using FLRC modulation instead of LoRa modulation like ELRS. The tradeoff is that Tracer has full telemetry, while ELRS has only rudimentary telemetry (vBat, LQ, and RSSI). The claim that ELRS has superior range and latency is not just based on this one test, which I pulled from Wez's YT as an example, and to demonstrate that the claims are based on real flight testing not just theory. Wez has done tons of apples-to-apples comparisons between ELRS and other protocols, and ELRS wins every time. However, if you need full telemetry for features like Betaflight Lua scripts or MAVLINK, ExpressLRS is not the best solution (today).

Wow, I didn't expect the decision to be so easy! Looks like I'm going with 2.4GHz ELRS! I have used and continue to use, for nearly 2 years, both the original R9M as well as the R9M 2019 using ACCST on my Jumper T16 Pro. I like using the R9Stab 900mc. stabilized receiver with the 2019 module flashed with ACCST firmware . I use the old R9M module with the R9 mini and slim. It does work with the right legacy firmware . It works well for me and allows me to use SmartPort sensors to see each battery cell which I insist on.

A couple of bits that you have missed with the TBS products. One is that they can talk to each other transmitter to receiver to VTX to Fusion enabling dynamic control, OSD and been able to update not only the receiver over the air but also the VTX. That's one of the biggest benefit's of TBS products. Another one is TBS also does PWM from 4, 6 and 8 channels through a simple adaptor boards for both Crossfire and Tracer. ImmersionRC Ghost is supposed to be getting a similar eco system to TBS, the orca goggles have a slot of a Ghost receiver for instance, but not much has been heard about it since. ELRS looks to becoming a great system for the future.

I only mention it because so many folks (like myself) have BNF quads with DJI Air Units or Caddx Vista systems in them. Again, just for comparison purposes (latency, distance, etc.). Also Joshua, I saw you left a comment that the performance is very similar, this is because all of these systems use nearly identical hardware, on the tx it's a 250-1000mw transceiver with a semtech sx12xx chip and a stm32fx chip and the receivers are a semtech sx12xx along with an stm32f0 processor and minimal supporting circuit. The only meaningful differences between them are firmware and operating frequency.

Thanks to you i finally made my choice on what module is should buy. I bought a TBS Tracer starter kit for my ACCST Taranis QX7. I almost forgot about the qx7 telemetry mod. I also upgraded my gimbals.

Tracer also requires the telemetry mod FWIW but Ghost does not if you flash the ImmersoinRC build of OpenTX.

I'm rockin mainly Xfire & ExpressLRS (converted all my r9 stuff to it). Now I just started the video but I hope you test out the xfire nano diversity rx b/c I was honestly really enjoying the performance of ExpressLRS but missed being able to use MAVlink over xfire and getting the diversity rx made xfire perform like 2x better compared to just using a xfire nano se rx 👍🏼

Joshua, R9m also works with Jumper radios (I'm specifically referring to minute 13:50). Cheers

I've got a Jumper T16, so FrSky Accst BNF is going to be my way forward until I can save up for a module. Probably going to spring for TBS Crossfire. If I need to replace or upgrade my Jumper, probably going to spring for something with ExpressLRS 2.4 built in and use then-my Crossfire mod for any models that still use it by then, as my long term plan. Might also spring for a commercial eLRS module setup since I haven't really started my return to FPV in earnest yet.

Well damn frsky for the new protocol and added confusion. I was just loosing interest in flying camera drones a little bit. Then I got the best deal ever on a open box dji fpv combo. Instantly had brand new stronger than ever desire to fly. 41 stars in the dji simulator, a slightly overpriced tiny hawk three kit. A digiadapter and rapid-fire module because I couldn't see withthe tinyhawk goggles. moblite 7 being delivered tomorrow. Already have what seems to be never-ending plans to buy more stuff now. Heeeeeelp I can't stop now. I just want to freestyle and learn to fly better in acro mode with higher rates. Oh yeah bought a racing gate the other day too. Probably going to have to get a bunch more of them.

I believe the King of range is still DragonLink. Guys have gone over 100 MILES! But they are focused much less on low latency since they mostly cater to fixed wing installations.

Crossfire/unify pro 32 hv/fusion is the best links hands down! If you have spent any money anywhere else and then got these you wouldn't regret it! So just buy them first

I have had a R9 module and i have had failsafes on full power (500mW i beleave) where the video still was flyable. I then sent back the R9 and got myself crossfire. I'm running CF on 100mW and i can fly as far as my video works. I've even had a complete video breakup while diving behind a mountain about a kilometer away. And when I say "complete breakup", i mean it. There was not even a shadow. No sign of life from my quad except my radio didn't say "lost telemetry". So I switched into angle mode, throtteled up and climbed for about 3 seconds to recover. CF did not let me down on 100mW. Imagine where I could fly on 2W.

That would take a loooooooot more man power. The fact that a tiny volunteer team could build a tx firmware that so badly outperforms Frsky is just testament to how little Frsky really cared. Digital video transmission is a much harder problem.

r9 acces only supported in FrSky radios? I have Radiomaster tx16s and my R9m lite pro module with Acces works great on this radio! Using telemetry requires a 2nd UART? I think you forgot about f.port

That got me thinking as well. I have a Jumper T12 Pro and one of the reasons that made me buy it was the module bay, compatible with R9. I don’t have the R9 module yet, but I am pretty sure they work together, I have it in the radio menu already. I could be wrong...

R9 is actually less hassle then ACCST - there is no LBT mode switching (EU vs FCC) that can make binding even more difficult than incompatible firmware versions. So, either you use the old (OpenTX compatible) firmware or newer ACCESS and are locked into FrSky (outside of hacks). Thanks for letting me know there is Express LRS out there. :D
