I bought my 2011 grand marquis in 2012 for 18,000 US with 35,000 km on it. It was a rental car and I bought it from the dealership. Leather seats and the whole works. Back then nobody wanted them. The dealership had five of them on their lot for months. Amazing how things have changed.

I paid $5k for mine in 2022. Mines a 2011 with 145k. I told my wife that the market is going to go insane and it sure did. I’ve been asked if I’m selling it multiple times now. Can’t tell you how glad I am that I scooped mine up before the market went insane on them. I’ve seen these cars being listed as high as $16k. $20k on BAT for the GEM cars with 10k miles. They’re collectors cars now. The body style is a legit classic. They were an iconic part of our countries landscape. You still see them in movies. Absolutely LOVE the Crown Vic.

I agree totally. I have owned five Panthers over the years, including my current one, a 2007 GM GS with a little over 100 K. I purchased it six years ago this month for $6500 with about 45 K from the original owner. Besides basic maintenance, I ve had to replace the fuel tank and pump after the straps rusted off, causing the tank to drop and drag the ground as well as a starter and alternator. I've had some cosmetic work done as well due to paint peel and minor rust. I plan to hold on to her for now as I know I won't see the likes of another. I'm seeing fewer and fewer of these on the road as time goes on. Eventually, it will be like the Chevy Caprice and Cadillac Brougham. A rare, if ever, sighting outside of an enthusiasts collection, a car show, or the salvage yard!! That's the reality!!

Sadly being in the rust belt (mine is 17 years old now, had to patch the rockers last year, needs a gas tank and a flex plate likely now sadly) I'll likely be selling mine here and get a newer camry (plus 7 bucks a gallon here in Canada is a big ouch for dailying a crown vic at this point). But even after I'll always love the old Crown Vics. I bought my P71 5 years ago and since then I've only seen one or two other clean ones in that period here on marketplace so I lucked out for sure. The days of finding plentiful and cheap Crown Vics are done 100% as you said. Even getting one is nearly impossible around here, let alone for a cheap price. Even ones needing repairs are 3500 to 4000 dollar cars nowadays. Mine is still only sitting at 179K kms (112k Mi) & 272hr. Wild how much things have changed in the last 5 years. Even before COVID the prices on these were already starting to increase.
@CarolinaCrown98
@CarolinaCrown98 2 ай бұрын
That’s very true! The sad part is they will never come back down for this model just due to its demand and lack of availability now. I’m still on my hunt for a stone interior 2011, but at this point I highly doubt I will come across it. If I do it will be very expensive. Our gas prices are $3 a gallon here in the lower part of the states, so driving the Crown Victoria is a breeze, however, as a cop I do have a take home vehicle which means I never have to use my own gas money to go to work. These cars are luxury based for my use as it stands. Even if I did have to support fuel, I don’t see $3 being too bad here. I knew prices were out of this world up there! I can’t imagine spending that much on gas, and I hope it’s a long time before it happens here. Maybe someday there will be a guy up there who obtains a better mpg vehicle, and is willing to take a ridiculously low modern price for a Vic you can snatch later. Who knows!
@flyer2359x
@flyer2359x 2 ай бұрын
@@CarolinaCrown98 who knows. But yeah they're not economical to drive up here. Driving a 2020 camry for example you save about $2100 to 2400 a year on fuel alone over a P71 here in Canada. Plus no rust for example and generally less maintenance since newer and a Toyota, it pays for itself pretty quickly. I'll be very sad the day the vic.goes but it's coming eventually.

The last time I saw them going at auction(live & online)for todays prices was around 2000-2012 when cab companies were buying every single one they could get their hands on for top dollar! 2013-2021 was when prices got reasonable and when I bought some nice clean ones for cheap. For a while during that period you could get a decent one for under $2000! The rough & wrecked ones were $400-$850 and the mint lower mileage unmarked/detective cars were $2500-$4000. I bought a blue unmarked detective 2008 SAP identical to the one in your thumbnail from the PA state police live auction for around $2000 out the door in 2021. 125k miles with 199 idle hours! Was listed with the non runners advertised with a transmission issue. Only mechanical problem I found was a sticking shifter you had to jiggle to take it out of park. I drove it around and there is nothing wrong with the car! Assigned to the southern part of the state-aside from slightly rusty rockers it’s pretty solid. 2022 was the last of the cheap CVPI’s for me,online auction from a medium size southern city-seemed like they were selling off the last batch of 30 white CVPI’s. I was after 2 but ended up with 4 due to the listings ending at around the same time & nobody outbid my low proxy bids? All model year 2011 mileage from 85k-108k around 5k idle hours out the door for $5600-around what ONE goes for today! I know I’ll never see them that cheap again.

I'd say its in 9/10 condition, it does have the clear coat peeling, but other than that, it has been an amazing car. The LAPD still have roughly 500 NEW CVPIs in storage that will eventually be put in service once the older ones phase out. They stock piled them knowing they were stop building them. I n the past 2 months I have purchased 2 CVPI from govdeals, a white '03 (probably detective vehicle) with 112,000 miles for $2,250 and an '11 (a college fleet vehicle, no patrol miles) with 170,000 mile for $3,380. The '03 has some mild paint issues (what white CVPI does not), needed the rear calipers replaced and 4 tires but otherwise is good as a basic daily driver. 1 rear window does not work (just have not messed with it yet), needed a new center console, replaced headlight housings. Did the full fluid/filter change and have around $3,500 out of pocket including registration. The '11 had some door and window issues with the only out of pocket cost is a new window motor, and aside from maintenance, nothing needed to drive across country. It has the full cloth interior with carpet and front bench seat with arm rests, power drivers, cruise, remote keyless, and even though 170,000 miles, only 633 idle hours. Will be under $4,000 for a very well sorted CVPI. Good deals can still be found, but are getting harder to find, as you said, even the newest model is 13 years old.
@CarolinaCrown98

Yeah more or less what I’m trying to hit on is a lower mileage and completely clean example inside and out. I’m sure you can get the plain white and high mileage ones out there for lower. Those deals are just getting super tough to find! Even a 170K Vic for $4,000 is crazy high compared to a few years ago! I also feel as though 06+ will bring in more revenue. Most people love the idle hour feature.

Since Ford was dumb enough to cancel these why won’t they let some other smarter company buy all of the tooling and open a factory in a “business friendly” state? These cars won’t last forever and there is still a demand for them if they were still being made. SC might even be a good state to open the factory. Florence? Sumter? Orangeburg? Just a few places that could benefit from it economically. The only robust alternative to these now is a Toyota Camry. The Avalon is now gone and that was also a big mistake on Toyota’s part. The Camry is way too expensive but nothing else will be as reliable. A panther was close though.

I call it the “Florida tax” as those cars are more popular in Florida versus other regions of the country. They usually command a higher price there. I bought a 2011 147k miles,close to 5000 idle hours for around $3k out the door live auction. It’s the most I’ve ever paid for a CVPI! Living in the northeast the fact it’s rust free is a big plus. It’s a former Alachua County green and white. I like the shade of green and the door jams are already matching so a all green repaint would save some money. The KZfaqr in Florida who’s name I will not mention with the racetrack contributes to the inflated prices there as well.

Considering the fact that a much newer and cleaner dodge charger goes for a few grand more, buying a crown vic at its current price makes no sense. People with little self-respect and deep pockets hopping on a bandwagon is what causes prices for vehicles shown on a few popular youtube videos to go out of control. Its what happened to the Crown Vic, Miata, 90's JDM cars in general, and a few other cars. The end result is marketplaces being flooded with molested examples of said vehicles and their delusional owners thinking they are worth double what they originally purchased them for. Most of those vehicles have alternatives to them that are much cheaper. Personally, I think its a bubble that will burst when people realize that they are ultimately purchasing a 20-25 year old ford for $10K or if a huge financial recession comes and people no longer have $10K to spend on them. TL:DR, You can find other V8 sedans that are better value. The crown vic's pricing is currently in a bubble and you probably should not purchase them at its current price.
@CarolinaCrown98
@CarolinaCrown98 2 ай бұрын
I fully disagree but respect your comment. The Vic was the last full frame rear wheel drive body on frame sedan manufactured by an American brand automaker. It will stand firm. A dodge charger, speaking as a law enforcement officer myself, is one of the biggest piles of dog shit our agency has ever had. It’s constantly breaking down and needing repairs as are our Taurus and Explorer based ones. These newer made vehicles will never stand up to the durability and reliability of the original PI. I wouldn’t buy a charger myself for $5,000. I further value these cars in excess of your opinion based on personal experience owning and patrolling in one. They stand strong, run hard, take a beating, and still keep going for more. We merely phase out CVPIs due to age with out the regard to it having any type of mechanical issues. Ours certainly had no problems being retired.
