A little stunned as you were talking about the great train robbery you passed a boat called "Nowra Fair". Well the owners are a long way from home because Nowra Fair is a shopping centre about 170Km south of Sydney, Australia in the town of Nowra. The name Nowra is unique in that it is an aboriginal based name meaning Black Cockatoo so the owners could only come from one place.

@@cruisingontheborder Hi Jac. Well I have the background now on the Nowra Fair. I posted the pic on the local facebook page and got a very quick response to it and it is as follows......Hi Chris my granddaughter just showed me a post about a boat named Nowra Fair - was that you? The owners of the boat are great friends of ours. He worked for a Narrowboat Builder and fitted out this boat after they had it built. They visited us in Nowra/Bomaderry when they were thinking about building the boat and liked the name Nowra Fair so that’s what they named it when it was finished. We got to take it for a trip and had lots of comments about the name as well as questions about how to pronounce “Nowra”.

We've slowly been working our way through all your vlogs in order, really enjoying them. Your back story is very interesting. We collected our first NB (57ft with canaline 42) in June from Lancaster canal and have sailed down to Banbury. We've taken in Ribble link (actually quite easy), through Bridgewater and took in whole Llangollen canal (August, very busy!). Sadly my wife broke her shoulder near Nuneaton a few weeks ago, fell in looping chain round a low armco. Hoping to get back to the boat soon but your vlogs are keeping our spirits up. Thank you 👍

Our thoughts are with you both xx Also a massive thanks for Buying us a Coffee, we'll both take great pleasure from enjoying them. Take care and hope you go cruising again sometime soon. I've just found your channel! What an amazing journey you've both been on and long may it continue. Our story is slightly similar to yours. We decided a couple of years ago (yep during "that" year) that instead of waiting to get a motorhome when we retired, in ten year's time, we would do it there and then. We have 3 grown up boys (our 21 year old is at home with us). We've travelled to Switzerland (which is where we used to take the boys when they were younger, we had a tent and a caravan back then), Belgium, Germany and France. We love France and I'm always drawn to the canals too. We're staying in the UK this year and are busy planning our holidays. My family holidays when I was younger were spent cruising on the Norfolk Broads and I have so many happy memories. Loving watching your videos, we've got a few to catch up on now, yay! And we're off to Crick boat show this weekend. We went last year and loved it! Have a great day 🥰

Have been watching your vlogs for ages, enjoy them all as you come across as a lovely genuine couple, but wow what a great story, definitely living most people's dream. Like you I took early retirement, because time & health is the most important thing we can have, as long as I can pay the bills, a little jam on the bread now again I'm more than happy in our beautiful countryside. As for some British crime reading, books on John Christie, 10 Rillington Place. Derek Bentley, James Hanratty the A6 murderer, Graham Young , poisner from the early 70's, many books on the Krays. Once again, I'll look forward to your many vlogs with total respect for your chosen way of life.

Hi Guys, Another great vlog - thank you. I live just down the Canal or Road from Leighton Buzzard in Tring, which (as you No doubt know) is the highest point on the Grand Union! We also have 2 former Rothschild buildings here, one of which, The Mansion house is now a posh School, and the other is part of the Natural History Museum. One of the Rothschilds had a carriage pulled by four Zebras back in the day, and the grounds of the Mansion (now a nice park) had Wallaby's roaming free in them!

Another great v log Jackie & Michael; Leighton Buzzard home to “Too Shy” Kajagoogoo.. who’s lead singer Limahl had a solo hit “Never Ending Story”. The Great Train Robbery took place right on the county border in Buckinghamshire & they hid out at Leatherslade Farm near Oakley … unfortunately for the gang they left many incriminating pieces of evidence behind there including some fingerprints.. which led to them being caught! Love the walk from the Three Locks at Soulbury right through to Bletchley .. the Three Locks Pub is a nice spot to watch the narrowboats & enjoy a good pint of real ale and a bite to eat .. have done that a few times over the years since I moved to Aylesbury in 2001.. also walked my dog Pepsi along the stretch there and North of Old Wolverton (and the metal aqueduct over the River Ouse) .. right up to Cosgrove and The Barley Mow pub!

Excellent Vlog again. I completed a 'Big Shop' at L-Buzzard Tesco which was so very convenient. Nice to hear your back-story and how you arrived at Border Reiver - so very similar for a lot of people with the double whammy of Covid-Brexit Deal fiasco. Oh by the way, if you're up for a rail-train hold-up let me know 😁😁. Happy Cruising.

If so is it easy to visit them and do they have time on the boat with you enjoying the lifestyle ? I would imagine people visiting might become interested in getting a canal boat too! We're really enjoying your videos, especially this episode. Our story is similar to yours although you're a few years ahead of us. We took early retirement and we've sold everything to travel. We bought a Dutch canal barge a yeear ago just this week. We're presently back home in Vancouver Canada to reset our Shengen visas after our most recent three month stay which was mostly spent on boat projects. We're already booked to fly back for our first real summer on the canals. Like you , we hope to vlog our misadventures as new canal boaters...thanks for the inspiration and keep up the outstanding work!

Hi guys great back story I am considering putting my boat on a truck and taking it to France if the visa issues every get sorted. With the Train Robbers bridge was not next to the canal but you can moor close by and it’s a short walk small foot path from the GU across a farm field to the bridge it was originally called Bridego Bridge 127 it has had its name changed now due to local pressure. I have visited it a few time great for a Photo. 👍👍

Hi Paul Thank you for taking the time to leave us a comment. We are glad you like our channel, As far as where to look for your boat, there are many brokers (you can find them all online) across the country. No two narrowboats are the same so our advice is look at as many as you can online and decide on a layout that may suit you and also what type of stern you want ; semi trad, trad or cruiser stern which we have. Once you have decided those things then have a budget in mind, stick to it if poss and be prepared to move quickly anywhere in the country once you see the right boat. Have a full survey also. Good luck Paul. 👍❤️
