A series of non mainstream topics that is used by Recreational bikers shortcut the transition from weekend enthusiasts to legit weekend fighters and enjoy the sport during the process. First topic will be the elementary concept of Torque and why car manufacturers take so much effort to publish the “Torque rating” of their cars. The same science is applied to the Human engine on ways to make the circular force easier and rotate that crank better with considerably less stress on the knee

Cruz, I tested this method on this past Saturday ( century ) after a week of practice on a 53 chain ring on a ‘84 Vintage Steel Trek. I just did hills repeats on a 5-9% grade. Saturday’s results were shocking to me and everybody else. At one point I dropped a group of 15 riders. I cant wait to see what the next three month will do. Thank you for enlightening us. With anything, it all comes down to training. Pros can do this since they train for it plus they have all the support behind the scenes to help them recover and avoid injury. For recreational cyclist who do not train properly (not just on the bike) and just go out there and hammer, the chances are greater that they will suffer an injury.

I've been riding for 6 yrs almost but recently had 1yr gap coz my bike got stolen and after lockdown gained alot of weight.... now I'm back in saddle from 1 month and recovering to my og form these vids helping me to getting back in form.....I was a endurance rider with 400 km my biggest ride....also I've been to Philippines for few years I really love it.....love from India 🇮🇳

Just because the Pros do it does not mean that a normal cyclist should do it. Pros have a different fitness level, different nutrition, different quality of equipment, different level of healthcare, different amount and level of training, and different reason for cycling. I'm a masher, but an understanding of physics will give the insight that increasing force (torque is simply the rotational equivalent of linear force) increases the stress on components like your ligaments and cartilages as your body parts transmit that force to your pedals. I'm young so i can afford to be a masher and not be worried about my ligaments and cartilages anytime soon, but there's only so much use/abuse that they can take. You can do all the correct positionings and movements but you can't cheat physics: More force = increased stress, less force = reduced stress. I just mash as a form of resistance training.

absolutely correct, which recreational riders can choose to do- don't consume processed food, avoid excessive supplements that will damage your kidneys, equipment are accessible to everyone nowadays, healthcare is a choice to go naturopathic which cost considerably less than traditional supplement based nutrition.

I am using a 1x12 SRAM Apex drivetrain with a 40t chainring on my gravel. By watching your vids, I can say that I have learned a lot of techniques most especially with torque and use of your core and biomechamics in climbing. Now I'm faster on average 8.1% gradient slopes and can go 33 kmh on flats using less than 120 W. Thank you for your vlogs, Coach!

after watching you, i tried some intervals this morning, focusing on torque. I did 1km with 52-11, then recovery easy for 1km, repeat like 4 rounds like that. Pretty like that. Thanks a lot, hope you keep sharing

Thank you for the kind words. At the moment we feel we have the right coaches guiding our National teams that are very much qualified to teach the young guns. Credit to our coaches who work tirelessly to hone the skills of the current crop. We on the other hand can only offer an alternative approach to the masses who cannot offer any more time dedicated to training just because of their current life status that takes them to school/university/family or professional work. This can be the only holistic solution for them apart from the traditional mainstream training.

Big ring Small ring is meaningless unless you know the ratios. My bike is a 53/39 with a 12/25 at the rear. Most bikes I see in the shops in the Philippines have 50/34 with an 11/34 at the rear so when I ride in 1st gear on the small ring I'm riding a higher gear than someone riding 1st gear on the big ring of a 50/34. Must also disagree about cadence not equalling torque. By definition torque is bending moment x rpm. Rpm is your cadence hence your torque is proportional to cadence. But good info on riding form.

Someday sasama din ako sa program nyo sir. I just need to get my new road bike (1st time to buy a road bike) and then ride it for a few hundred kilometers and then enroll to your program. But I’m also used to use a big crank kasi yung bike ko is a folding bike with a 1 x 53T na crank and a few thousands of km sa folding dahil mahilig ako sa long rides using my folding bike. Ngayon gusto ko naman mag road bike and I find your videos interesting. Hope to see you soon sir.

Naalala ko po noon na sinubukan ko po yung heavy gear (42x11 mtb) ginawa ko po all the way papuntang climb part ng ride namin pero may parts po nung bago makarating na mabababang percent lang naman po pero for power tinatayuan ko nalang po, pagdating ko sa climb natry ko na shift to mid ring (3x chainring) then change gear sa cogs then dun ko po na feel na mas napadali ako mag climb kahit na hindi ako nagsasagad sa biggest cog (36t 9s) then nakakapag keep up ako sa pace if hindi na po nagsisprimt ang kasama ko nakayanan ko po mag maintain ng 11-14kph sa 14-16% po ata yun (kambal ahon) medyo nabawasan lang po ang speed ko pagdating sa revpal siguro dahil po sa pagpilit ko hindi kumalas sa kasama nung mga naunang climbs. Dahil sa video nyo sir mas naintindihan ko pa yung ibang bagay about sa gantomg klaseng training at gusto ko masubukan pag nakapag ride na din po ko kahit walang training. Nice video sir.

What was the average gradient of the climb? If it's only 5-7% then big ring might be ok.

-Interesting content ! Recreational weekend warrior self taught and I always just by observing strong riders I’ve come to a similar conclusion specially after completing a TRI training program where the big chainring at lower cadences was part of the weekly training and I even saw an FTP increase by the end of the program .. thanks for you detailed explanation it just reassured me that being on a 1x set up it’s not as bad as the purists like to make it sound as long as you have the skill to manage it . 🤓👌🏽✨

Probably those "Einstein" are just insecure because they can't use their big rings on climbs, they're looking for something negative on a very good coaching provided by crzctrl, in my opinion having a good warmup will not harm our legs when climbing with big rings

In the last part of your video, you were comparing your group who were riding time trial bikes to the other group who were riding regular road bikes. It doesn’t make sense at all, how is that fair? If you want to show us that your torque training is effective, you should race them with the same kind of bicycles. You keep saying that it’s an ego to race but you keep comparing your group to the other group, now you’re contradicting yourself.

Well if you're just a recreational rider it really depends on your preference. Some rider are spinners (uses small ring) and others smashers (uses big ring). Those people who judge and correct your way of cycling are toxics in our community. Dont mind them

Hi Coach. Is changing your crank arm to a longer one a good idea when it comes to climbing on big gear? Bec. Torque=Force x Radius right? Thanks

This is a timely relevant topic. If you don’t have much training and have a lower force pressure, a longer arm will be helpful but expect a lower cadence. This will also lower your heart rate

pros can afford to use the big ring and cross chain on crucial climbs because they don't have to pay for their drivetrains .. but not for us ordinary mortals (hehe)

but unlike, shimano and campagnolo, sram and fsa do not discourage cross-chaining as long as the chain does not rub the fd .. so, perhaps it's about the design of the drivetrain too.

but i do believe in torque (coupled with bio-mechanics/correct posture) rather than high cadence on long climbs .. for a weekend warrior like me, high heart rate brought about by high cadence will eventually slow me down ..

Coach since you're using more muscles, does this mean you sacrifice endurance or does this preserve your energy because of the distribution of power?

More muscles does not mean less endurance or faster exhaustion. Imagine doing push ups Bruce Lee style: three fingers per hand touching the ground then start doing your push ups. Even if you’re strong, because some muscles carry the load, you fatigue faster. The trick is distributing that stress to a bigger surface area (of muscles). You end up fresher and do more reps if you open your hand

@@CruzControlPH hey coach does alternating positions in the bike does the same as your technique when distributing stress to the body? for example I'll sit at the rear of my saddle then after a few minutes I'll change my position by sitting at the nose of the saddle. im thinking different position also uses different muscle groups.

I always have fear climbing up the sumulong hwy of antipolo. I only get to reach half of the steep stretch bcoz my heart pumps fast but my legs still can cycle. My body can, i know. Any advise for me coach?

what to do coach if your always having cramps producing high tourque on a climb? please give some advice. thank you.

cramping is a function of the muscles training level (assuming hydration is not the issue). if we load the muscle beyond it's current conditioning, it will cease to function to its potential. Ideally we train the muscle in progression and allow it to adapt in increments until the whole system can work to your intended effort
