Review of the Cupra Born Performance EV. Priced from $59,990 before on road costs, this little pocket rocket has the looks to be the hot hatch that Australia needs. But is its performance and features enough to tempt buyers? Find out in this review.

I have a Cupra Born with the sports and interior pack which includes electric seats with massage function. I get well over 400 Km of range on a full charge. I hold the steering wheel in the 10 and 2pm positions which is advisable for cars with airbags. So I don’t accidentally touch the volume and other steering wheel sensors. I would have preferred that this Australian model had all the features that the American and Europeans get in there models - like heads up display augmented reality and the twin motor with much more power in the American car. All said and done with ofter six months of ownership I’m still loving the driving experience the styling and build quality-this car is a lot of fun and a great city car. My model is made in Germany and fit and finish is as good as Japanese build quality. I rarely see other Cupra Borns on the road, so it’s not a dime a dozen like Tesla’s or other Chinese and Korean brands. The breaks are fine once you get use to them, for a car that weighs in at 1950kg. There not cheap hear in Australia or in Europe or America but that’s because of VW groups pour management, cost overruns and time taken to get it to market. I love mine.

You can just press the + and - as if they are buttons. You do not have to slide. With volume slider you can just double tap at the louder end or the quieter end. Something you only learn with longer usage.

Thanks Chris. I'm probably a bit biased as I have a Cupra Born (not performance). Still early days after 1000km but doing 15.2kW/100km on average (B mode 80% of the time and the occasional Cupra mode for fun). I can confirm that 0-50/60 is a lot of fun ! We picked the Cupra vs others because it was the right balance of fit (wanted a smallish car), finish and enough tech (avoiding tech overload for the other driver in the family). Great review as always 😉

Battery is too low for 170kW in that model. You can also see how it feeds the power in from 0 on the blue bar. Hence the slow 0-100. Stop start button is only needed if you want to start car without sitting down. Cruise control can be tweaked with res and set for finer increments

Great unbiased report, thank you. No mention of price though. Has to be an MG4 competitor in size. Very disappointing the it has drum brakes and manual adjust seats. Disclaimer: We have an Atto 3 Extended and IMO it is so much better than this Cupra except for being FWD.

Thanks - I try and yeah, price needs to be much sharper

Great job Chris in the high court! I used to have to pay $500 extra a year due to the EV tax. But now that the government is gonna increase the cost of rego & taxes for everyone to supplement that heinous tax, I'll only have to pay an additional $1500! Woohoo! I was so annoyed that trucks & long haul vehicles were paying a greater share of the funding for road infrastructure, just because they use it more and buy all that petrol & diesel! Booo, I want to pay just as much as them, equality for all. But now thanks to your great work I get to! Appreciate it mate

We want. Real buttons, for heat, radio volume, cruse, and no subscriptions or spyware.

They are real buttons. I just did a test ride and they were not touch sensitive

@@Rusties844 It's not just EV's and there are cases in some countries where people are given speeding tickets based on there car giving the data to the cops. And in the USA congress wants to make it mandatory by 2026 that all cars can be turned off remotely by the police.
