Curing my Home Grown Virginia Tobacco

How to grow tobacco series. Color curing my Viginia Tobacco plant leaf, using the towel method. Smooth to smoke as is, but will improve even more with a year of age on it.
This method has leaf ready to smoke in about three weeks from harvest.
Harvest the bottom leaves first, the plant will keep growing at the top.

Hi there i had a question. Why dont you hang the leaves up in sun to convert that green? My friend here in new zealand hangs in partial sun. But im unsure cis he also rolls into sushi rolls and puts in rice cooker for 3 days on warm.

That's a pretty cool process. I wouldn't have the patience for it...and my wife would kill me too....and I wish I lived on a climate that could support that...but I'll live vicariously through you! 😉 Have a wonderful 2021!

This coming year I’m gonna grow some myself! I’m from the Netherlands, so wet and not to much sunshine. I need to get seeds fast tho!

wow those plants are beeeeeautiful. mine only got about 3ft tall. the seeds took almost a month to germinate. next spring im gonna start them inside (im up in PA).

Question: What are the TEMP/RH values at in your "warm" curing room? Reason I ask is because I live in Az and it is VERY dry here. But because I live in the mountains it doesn't get very warm either. And because you likely have different environmental conditions I dont know if a sunny room in my home at 70F with 20% humidity will work. I think you can see my dilemma here. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you for an educational video.

Great! Fermenting or flue curing is really necessary for hookah tobacco where you don't want the taste of the tobacco itself? You add flavour mixtures. I can buy Virginia leaf's however they are not fermtented nor flue cured. I need to boil them before mixing with flavours however I am unsure if flue curing is necessary (also in terms of ammonia, not sure if it disappears while boiling also)

Thanks for the videos. Are you stacking the leaves under the towels immediately after harvesting? Keeping them under the towels for 2-3 weeks. What temperature range would be ideal?

hi and sorry for my english, i wanted to ask you for advice, i am growing tobacco in pot, to make cigarettes for personal use, plants grow well, i wanted to know how to dry the leaves at home properly, then chop them and make cigarettes, could you tell me the whole procedure to have a tobacco ready to smoke? I don't have a barn or stables so I should do everything indoors

nice video, but i do not understand why u put leaves inside some towels to make em dry, I've never seen anything like that before, don't you have some kind of mold probem? - it woud be very interesting a video with an explanation of this drying process thanks for all your video!!

IF you let them get fully yellow on the plant, Virginias will have less sugar than flue-cured, but the flavor will be much stronger.

Also, there is a channel called, ‘Survival Gardening With David The Good’, which covers this topic - he also has written a small, relatively inexpensive book on the topic of growing and making ready tobacco 🙂

I think you must be growing Burley not Virginian Gold as Virginian gold will not cure under 108 degrees F or 42 degrees Centigrade, however Burley will air cure but should be left as long as possible before use. Uncured Virginia Gold will not burn properly when not heat treated I treat mine for about 4 weeks gradually increasing the temperature up to 127 degrees F or 52.8 Cent. It's definitely Virginia, I'm also growing Burley, but not in the videos. It does need a year to age though to be a decent smoke.

I would love to grow my own. But I don't want to go back to smoking Idk if anyone has tried steaming the dried leaves to vaporize the nicotine

I’m not sure that would work - they steam treat some commercial tobaccos I think, so I don’t think the process of steaming would necessarily eliminate nicotine 🙂
