Charge it from my solar on my truck camper. 26" Wheels. Looking into adding a 27.5 front make it into a mullet.

Hey Johnny. Just found your channel and know nothing about ebikes. Really appreciate your honesty in another video about them and your approach. Most of the vids I've seen so far seem to be just promoting and selling you on high dollar models I would probably never need or could justify buying.. Digging this one and I'd like to talk with you if possible about ebikes and possibly builds for my wife and I. Jim

You and others have inspired me. I have a brand new envoy cargo bike, then bought a mongoose dolomite alx, then three of the malus bikes, I was going to put the bbs02 in the cargo bike and keep that for a kid hauler, the alx is an awesome bike that I may keep as is ( i live on a snowmobile trail) one of the Malus bikes has showed up and they are kind of crappy no real low gears. I was hoping to build a rental fleet but the insurance is nuts. So i guess I will be building a couple bikes for fun an maybe to sell. I thought I could rent the malus bikes with out a motor but they will not work to heavy and no low gears, more of a tar beach boardwalk bike. No beaches in the mountains.

Love your vlog J. That needed to be said before I pick on your bike. First I would gear it lower 39mph is too fast for rough trails and it looked like it struggled to climb that mild grass hill, lower gearing would help a lot. Using a zip tie to hold the drive chain tensioner spring, kinda sketch. What is the large hose clamp around your motor about?
@JohnnyNerdOut
@JohnnyNerdOut 2 жыл бұрын
Yes I agree a bigger rear cog would’ve made a world of difference bringing the usable power to a lower speed. The hose clamp keeps the motor from working itself loose. It’s a friggin beast of a motor and needs to be strapped down like a mentally ill gorilla (could be a cool bike name 🤔). Anything can be used to keep the tensioner in place but that is what cyclone sends with the kit ( as well as the hose clamp)

I have an unrelated question about an unorthadox battery. I have a Specialized stumpjumper fsr 2007 and Ive added a bafang bs02. Unfortunately I cant fit a downtube battery unless i go underneath. If the forks went through 70% it would get hit. I dont want to add pne tp the top of crossbar. My question is could I use a 48v frog battery on the seatpost as a mtb trail riding alternative? I can forsee problems i.e. security of attachment and also being able to drop the seat for steep downhill drops. Have you any experience of frog batteries?

i have a question! :) Have you installed any cyc-motor products, like the X1 Pro or the newer X1 Stealth? Sort of the same sphere as this motor i'd assume... :) And i'm wondering what occasions you receommend to use a 'gear sensor' so that when you're shifting gears the power cuts for just a moment to not completely murder your drivetrain!! 😅 what gear sensors would you recommend also?

Hey Johnny, just found your channel, instant sub. I’ve been building ebikes for a couple of years now, a few of them were dirt jump bikes which I built as single speeds with different bafang mid-drives. I often get some flack online for not pairing my mid-drive with with a cassette or IGH. Obviously, the bike in your video is a single speed as well, curious to know your thoughts on ss + mid drive. Clearly there is a bit more usable power when using gears but I honnestly don’t find the ss to be that much of a detriment. Love your channel buddy!
@JohnnyNerdOut

Dear JohnnyNerdOut: I LOVE what you've done--take a reg. fat-bike pedaler and add a GREAT motor. & HD-amp battery. I'd like to add rear{?} rack{s} to carry two bags of groceries, and 4 battery packs, so I could travel 140miles @ 40mph on 2nd-ary roads, having a front suspension that if I run off the road, I can safely stop without jumping off/crashing. I want SPEED, plus RANGE, & Range & Range on pavement, now. --Maybe I'd learn dirt-riding later. I'm alarmed @ the chain coming off, why not then add a few more pounds and use belts, which can be MUCH harder to throw, because there are deep grooves on some of the belt sprockets, plus belts don't "stretch" as much as a chain, so they might be more efficient than chains, also lasting longer. Are there ANY 90cc 4-stroke gas motors that would continuously "charge" via car alternator, the motor/batteries, so 70mph and REAL "cross-country" riding would be possible, kind of like the Fisker Electric Auto that uses a gas engine to keep the electrics "charged" after its 30 miles of range poops out. I'm thinking of the Tucson - Phoenix run, which while listed as 120 miles, is more like 160 because I live 40 more miles from where they start Counting. This trip takes fully two+ hours, so would take 4 + hours on a 40mph bike, with NONE able to take the RANGE without multiple batteries {4-5?} if done completely Electric. Also, why not "drive the front fat tire with a center-hub motor" mounted to turn with the front wheel? {like the TWIBIKE, only powered }

Hey Johnny... Awesome video's..!! I have 2 questions for you. I have a "TRUE" B-52 Stealth Bomber ebike (not a clone). I ran into a situation last year where I had a flat tire, I took the wheel off to repair the flat, now the bike will power on, but wont go. I took the tire off just to make sure I didn't cut anything, etc.. still no joy.. Do you have experience and work on Stealth Bombers...? Second question. I still have my first ebike, RadRover Fat Tire bike. I'm looking for something a little faster with better range such as the bike you feature above. Is there anything you would suggest with the rad bike, or should I just sell it and build out a bike. I may see if there is something you can build me as well, but I wanted to get your thoughts..? If its easier for you, I'm happy to contact you directly for a further discussion.. Thanks..!!

Check the connectors and cables for pinches. You can upgrade the rad rover to a mid drive which will really wake it up 👍

@@JohnnyNerdOut Hey Johnny... thanks for getting back to me. Yeah, I did check that already. Some are questionable and may require me to pull the hub apart to do a full replacement if I go that route. Are you knowledgeable of Stealth and do you work on them... ? Yes, I'm happy with the framework of the RadRover, I just want to get a little more power out of it. If I went in that direction, what could I purchase from you ...? Thanks...

I thought you only need a controller when you have a hub motor, not a mid-drive motor...AND I thought you said you would prefer a hub motor on a single-speed bike. Explanation would be great..Thanks.
@JohnnyNerdOut
@JohnnyNerdOut 3 жыл бұрын
all ebikes need controllers, Bafang builds theres into the motor which is nice. Cyclone does not, hence the bulky controller.At this power level, a hub motor would've worked too, but i like the mid drives because i can switch cogs/chainrings to achieve different gear ratios, something you cant do with hubs.

@@JohnnyNerdOut What is the absolute limit Amps of this motor? I understand these 3kw have nylon gears so need to be careful. From the 4kw upwards all of them have steel gears, maybe you could start using them?! Did you ever test the Cyclone 6kw or 7.5kw versions? 7.5kw about the same weight and size as the 3kw.

@@Full_Throttle_no_Brakes I haven’t. I kind of feel 3k is already pushing the limits of a bicycle frame and drivetrain, even if running a single speed. I’d say around 50-60 amps continuously those nylon gears start to brake and the windings start to overheat

In Australia we are limited to 200 watts power purely from the motor and 250 watts during pedal assist (or the other way around?🤔) which is quite a weak motor from an American perspective. I want a very reliable bike to use for ‘bike-packing’ with minimum 10-20kg/22lbs-44lbs and possibly up to 88-100lbs (if towing my dog in a dog trailer) And I want to be able to climb hills on unsealed dirt roads with those higher weights, but dirt walking tracks with the ‘lower’ weights of 22-44lbs. From what your saying, I should get a standard good quality fat tyre bike, and have a mid-drive motor installed at least for the 22-44lbs (excluding my own average weight) hiking trail bike-packing trips, but if I want to tow a trailer with a 88lbs dog in it or even that amount of ‘cargo’ is any e-bike with the 200-250watt legal limit practical at all? Or should I just accept I need a motorcycle license and a low geared reliable cargo motorcycle like a Honda CT125?
@utubeape
@utubeape 2 жыл бұрын
you cannot tow a trailer with a 250w motor with a fat tire bike, on roads with normal tyres maybe. Get a more powerful motor and a sticker that says 250W, so long as you are not doing silly speeds on the road nobody will know
