Everyone wants diesel until it's time to do diesel things. I've done my injectors =$5000 for the shop to do it, I've done water pump, complete brake job, fuel and brake lines. $100 to change oil, just for oil and filters. Cost of ownership is considerably higher and everyone who's debating on which needs to understand that.

If it's a diesel go midsize with a inline straight 4 cylinder and that's because of the size of the fuel tank and cost as well. If you want to go gasser go for a full size one. They are pretty good and the lift kits will probably be cheaper not only that but maintenance will be cheaper than a full sized diesel. Even when it comes to towing the full sized gas will probably have the same mileage as the midsize diesel mainly because of the size of the size of the fuel tank.
@treizTUBE
@treizTUBE 3 жыл бұрын
If you aren't towing heavy daily or weekly don't get the diesel. The math just doesn't work anymore. They no longer have the MPG advantage, cost of ownership is through the roof, and while they >can< last a long time that doesn't mean they will or are even likely to any more. The days of the really simple solid diesels are over. For the added cost of a diesel that >might< last 4-500K miles, you could buy a gasser and drive it 3-400+K miles until the engine blows, then go buy another engine and still come out ahead.

I think you need to see your lifestyle habits and what you will use the truck for. Personally, I want to tow and carry stuff around. Diesels last long but it can go either direction cause if you take care of things...they last. Diesel is expensive but it depends on the size of the engine as well. You can't compare a 7.3L gasser with a 2.0 bi turbo diesel from the ranger raptor. That engine is huge.

Considering only being on oil field lease roads and don’t to haul a big trailer (Enough for a quad or side by side) a gasser works for me. A $100K-120K CAD diesel isn’t worth it. When you can might as well own a work truck and a personal truck and it’s still affordable with a mortgage

Although, I have a 2014 f150 with the 5.0 and it’s very reliable. We’ve pulled about 13k with it What we pulled was a 12x6 dump trailer with 4ft sides full of wet mulch and it pulled good. Wasn’t too enjoyable, but did it. Either way you could pull, but a diesel would do it better, plus a diesel is a lot more fun tho🤣

Most of the diesel mechanics that I know prefer owning a gas truck vs diesel. Why? Because of the overall simplicity of maintenance and low cost of ownership. Also, most diesel truck owners get sucked into hype and allure of the diesel engine that can generate "bookoo" torque and HP numbers. However, the vast majority of these diesel truck owners rarely tow anything. And, if they do tow a trailer or RV, it will be very infrequently (i.e 'maybe' a couple times a year). Thus, if you own a rig that does a significant amount of towing then, a diesel truck makes complete sense. However, if your trucks usage is more daily driver or making a once-in-a-while run to the local Home Depot, your wasting money owning a diesel. Just like my diesel mechanic friends told me when I was looking to buy my last HD truck, stay away from a diesel if you don't have a real need for frequent heavy towing.

anything heavier then a skid loader on an appropriately sized trailer for said loader, go diesel, that being said if you’re driving more then 30 min. Away from your shop with that loader and trailer get diesel, fuel economy, heavier duty powertrain, and power will make you glad you did, but if you’re just scooting around town with loader, a bunch of lawn mowers or plowing snow in your area go gasser the oil changes, cheaper fuel, and ease of finding a shop to have work done will make you happier.

Would a 2015-2019 Chevy 2500hd duramax be a good first truck? I got 3 year to I get my license just trying to save for a truck

Probably more than you need and very expensive. But yeah awesome trucks. Almost everybody wrecks their first truck, I had already flipped two before I had my learner's permit.

My first truck was a 77 dodge power wagon. Great first truck learned how to work on. 17 years later I now spin wrenches professionally, buy something cheap. As a teenager you will destroy it. Trust me that old power saw a couple ditches and a roll back tow truck. I had one pissed off old man

@@223ko I hope you don't flip it too. Just wear your seatbelt and don't worry about impressing anybody. You'll be fine

My first truck is a 2000 ram 2500 4x4 with the 5.9 Cummins. I don’t think I’ll touch a gas truck for the rest of my life unless it was like a single cab 5.7/ 5.0 coyote

my 6.slow chevy may not be as cool as a duramax or make the cool noises but Id bet the added fuel cost of diesel offsets the better milage and when you ad in all the extra parts that can fail on a modern diesel it will be a better option. I can put turbos on my 6.0 for pennies compared to just repairing failures on a diesle and make all the power at a fraction of the cost.
