I’ve removed cast iron tubs just like this but I cover the tub with a thin drop cloth to keep debris from flying or breaking a window. Great job

I've never seen one break this easily, usually it's a nightmare to break them especially in a condo where it's so loud the entire building complains

Tip for anyone considering taking a sledgehammer to their tub: be careful when you’re hitting the ground, you could accidentally crack one of your floor beams

LOL this tub was made in the 80's! Shows how old I am when the 80's is ancient history.

I feel like some of these cast iron tubs were made different.(edit: old cast iron tubs. The one we struggled with was from the early 1900s) My uncle and I encountered one about 2 years ago that just wrung our hands when we tried sledgehammering it. Tried cutting with a sawzaw but that would’ve taken too long. We ended up just dragging it out whole on cardboard and putting it in the truck. Thankfully it was on the first floor of the house but I was not happy to say the least.

What's the weights of the hammer that you are using ? Please advise

I got a big old cast iron tub. Been wondering best way to remove, my dad used to use sledge hammers, just checking to see if there are better alternatives now days but I still think this is the best way to go. I’m going to try 3 sections though considering it’s length and weight.

We're still doing it the same lol
@nja32243 жыл бұрын
@@wolfplex1 - I’m convinced now it is still the only way. We smashed it in pieces, with a few chunks that were manageable to handle. Within 30 minutes, maybe even less, it was gone and fully removed. 👍

This tub is made on the largest green sand molding line in the world capable of pouring a tub every 30-40 seconds.

seen many of these removals and i can't believe how backwards you americans sometimes think and the waste you produce. That bath tub should be removed in such a way, that no tiles or the tub get destroyed, or if any , minimal damage, at least that's how we do it in europe. I dunno how you cement it there that you have to destroy it to remove it. It literally blows my mind. Is the resin so hard to remove at the sides to pull the tub out? I see no corners there, unscrew the drainage holes, cut the silicone from the sides, if needed unmount the toilet, and you pull the tub outward. Literally less time , damage, less sweat.

This is a cast iron tub, somewhere around 400-500 lbs (or 200 kg in eurotrash units). I look forward to your video showing you pulling one out yourself. Don't forget, don't damage the tile.
@Derpherppington11 ай бұрын
These are 500 pounds and the cements and titles around it is another 500 pounds and two inches thic with chicken wire and cements from 1960’s so these are like status. I’d like to see how you euro remove your 1960s tubs or even newer ones without removing everything. Most people don’t like to remove the titles
@arncj1811 ай бұрын
@@Derpherppington very simple, its not connected to walls, you can seal off the tub in it's horizontal space with silicone you don't need to put 3 walls over it's sides. It wouldn't move either way. cause it has metal support legs under it or brick walls

Ours are connected to the walls with screws in the flange, which you put the backer board over and then tile over. Generally if you're taking out a tub you're redoing the bathroom.
