You popped up on my feed yesterday, and you’ve been pretty entertaining. It’s been pretty cool to hear an actual fighter pilot comment on things. As for this, given your reactions in the previous video, as soon as he said ‘best fighter pilots on the planet’, I _knew_ that a ‘no’ was coming lol. Gotta ask, can you actually suspend disbelief and enjoy movies and games, or does your skill in your profession make that impossible?

@travisneill704
@travisneill704 Жыл бұрын
@@Ad-ho7hc are you asking how to convey that in a screenplay through actions, fewer words, theme, and artistry? Yes, there is. But like most of the time when you see expositional dialogue, it's simply laziness that carries that day. Most times it's viewed as too subtle for the audience. If that's the case, then fine, you just have dumbed down dialogue. Got it. Speilberg used to get around this by adding a layer of tension to the exposition. a good example of this is Raiders of the Lost Ark when Indiana and Sala are talking about the markings on the medalion and how high the staff is supposed to be. It's completely expositional but Indy is tossing a poisoned date around and we are more worried about him eating that than what they are saying. That's more sophisticated than what they did in Maverick. Please don't get me wrong, I've seen Maverick 6 times now and love it. But it's not flawless and it's a good study to identify the weak parts.

I'm glad you guys noticed what I did about their training. They simulated a route that they have to take for the actual mission, but they're also flying in a canyon during practice. So did they just happen to find a canyon that is exactly the same as the one for the mission and required the exact same maneuvers? And if that's the case, how did they hit a wall in the simulated one and not die for real? Edit: Okay, another thing! When Maverick says they're going to pull a 9 G climb out of the crater and it will likely bend their airframe, how are they practicing it without, you know, bending the fucking airframe? Are they just sacrificing dozens of F-18's to attempt this?

Funny part about the timeline that is pushed to speed up the strike. 1: The Navy cares about the enemy's remote, inhospitable doom valley enough to worry about irradiating it in the first place. 2: Treating a nuclear enrichment facility as if it doesn't take MONTHS to process even a few kilograms of material. "Oh, we have to hit the place before they get their first shipment!" "Why?" "Because then it'll have material in it!" "How is that a problem?" "They'll be able to process weapons grade uranium!" "...In what universe does a centrifuge get you weapons grade uranium in five minutes?" I'd be going: 'Hey, why don't we wait for the first shipment to arrive, then bomb it at our leisure? Then they're not just down an enrichment facility, but they've also lost the raw resources of their entire first shipment!'

I have watched all 8 of the Fighter Pilots React to TOP GUN Maverick videos you made with Gonky on Maverick and have enjoyed them all. This one is by far my favourite. :) My favourite moment: Mover: Actually... Me: *roars with laughter* Thanks to both of you for providing all the information you did. I have seen Maverick 3 times - and thought it was the best movie I have seen in a long time - before finding your channel and am looking forward to seeing it again after watching your videos.

Interesting comment about the bird strike! Canadian Snowbird went down from a bird strike a few years ago after takeoff, but obviously an older single engine plane.

I love how Maverick's much ballyhooed pilot skills consist mostly of 1) slamming the throttles into the NW quadrant, even in situations where he should already be in full AB, and 2) snatching (sts) the stick to the seatpan, even at airspeeds where he'd rip the wings off.

Definitely found it a bit ridiculous when Phoenix was "shocked" at losing hydraulic pressure after extinguishing both engines. Also the whole sustained g's after going vertical was skeptical at best.

The scene in which Hangman mouths off to Mav and Rooster in the ready room definitely made me furrow my brow. Like, how the hell does a lieutenant get away with speaking to a superior officer like that? I mean, for someone like me who knows dick about aviation, that was one of the few moments in the film I knew for sure was unrealistic lol

Listening to the commentary, understanding the inaccuracies by the actual pilots, is pretty fn cool to say the least. Nothing screams American pride as much as witnessing a Fighter Jet in person. This movie franchise reminds us of the patriots who are often unreported by our culture. For that alone, it is commendable. It's inaccuracies are tolerable. It reminds us to recognize the courage, dedication, and selflessness of these few, brave, FUKIN PATRIOTS!!!...thank you, and the 🍻 are on us!!

I think all though maverick is speaking to the pilots about the G forces it is intended for us audience because a majority of who went for the movie were not aviators. I think it’s a more creative choice than sticking to the reality. Again I presume this is why it was done.

I think you fellas may have missed the premise here. The simulated practice isn't in a somehow similar piece of terrain...They are practicing for the actual route in a much wider valley nearby to (I am guessing) Miramar... That's why they are working so hard, and that's why Payback hits the 'simulated' wall, and not a real one. Love these videos BTW. You guys are awesome

I have to correct you on one thing mover Phoenix and Bob are totally good to go on this mission they took advice from Topper Harley and got the coverage. "But I'm paying it off at ten bucks a week. And I wouldn't be doing that if I'd gotten that extra collision coverage."

Back when the F-14 was new (1st sea tour with VF-1 and 2) they would assign a corridor, x deg from carrier, any aircraft in this corridor was sending out a challenge to take on all comers. So on the way back to the carrier, the F-14's A-7's and A-6 would all fly that corridor and dogfight anyone who showed up. Does that still happen?

I wonder with the bird strike if the species makes any difference to the likelihood of damage, or even blind luck. I work with a guy who's serviced more aircraft than I know about. He had a Bucaneer take birds through both engines. One engine was (more or less) fine. The other lit up like a bonfire and they couldn't find a single turbine blade in it when it came back. Rhino is half a century newer though so it's not exactly like for like.

I think it was realistic of them to lost the hydraulics after losing their right engine as it is what powers it . They still had control after losing the left engine . In DCS and even MSFS 2020, if I’m low on fuel , I sometimes tend to cut power to my left engine . Yes the aircraft drifts a bit towards left but that’s manageable. Turn them back on right before landing . Seems unreasonable but works and saves fuel. ( DCS knowledge 😅)

For that matter why did Iceman, Hollywood and Slider have to fly half way around the world to dogfight the MIGs in the first movie…. Did the two or three fighter squadrons on board the carrier all take leave at the same time?
