August 2021. I decided to cycle the NC500 solo. What an incredible ride it was! It completely blew me away, I had no idea that the scenes would be so great. Crystal clear waters and sandy beeches in these little hidden bays, wavy lochs surrounded by all kinds of shades of green, razor sharp mountains surrounding smooth valley roads.

Best bits: Lochcarron, Bealach na Ba (pass of the cattle), cycling alongside isle of Skye, Torridon to Kinwolche Valley alongside Beinn Eighe mountain, Gruinard Bay, Ullapool is an interesting place, loch Assynt, Clashnessie Bay, Loch Eriboll, Tongue, John O'Groats, camping by old Bruan Free Kirk.
I was especially excited as I bought myself a DJI Mini 2 drone for taking some aerial shots. That didn't disappoint. Was amazing driving round and popping open the drone and getting some shots on the fly. The battery life is poor on it though so couldn't abuse it.
Also had my Lumix G100 with me to get some good photographs.
The rest was shot from my iPhone SE.

Your sense of humour made this a great video to watch, I cycle around Norfolk ,around the Broads ,and the marshlands ,which are flat as a pancake so the hills you climbed looked very scary, you get plagued by midges here as well ,…..I reckon it’s where your midges come on their holidays 😂

Awesome video, I did it pre covid and wildcamped for 5 nights, blow up mattress popped on night 1 so slept on ground for the rest of the route 😬 amazing scenery and bloody hilly but it should be on every adventurous cyclists bucket list. Most days were fuelled by a deep fried something and chips. Loved the editing Jonesy 👌

Ahh mate, absolutely loved it! Had a couple of mechanical issues on mine and my lasses bike (snapped gear cable and snapped chain) but the people up there are amazing and rallied. Then as we were putting the bikes back in the car at Inverness her back tyre blew out haha , timing doesn't get better than that 😁 Keep up the good work mate, great craic

@Jonesy's Cycle Vlogs I prepped for doing the hebridean way last year but ended up spending a week in the cairngorms instead for various reasons, I will be doing the hebridean way this year at the start of July, but still intend to do the nc500 again someday.

Did you bring a bike lock? How did you secure your bike overnight or when stopping for lunch?

The bike rental place gave me a bike lock, I never used it though. There tends not to be any crime the remoter you go. Just tried to stay hidden when wild camping and lay the bike on the floor or up against a tree or fence. It was very nearly dark every time I set up camp.

Oh mate you are essential viewing. Watched one vid and now I know I need to see all the others. You must be hard as fuck to keep pushing on day after day like that. How do you keep your feet dry and warm? If your shoes get wet youre a bit fucked?

Your comment is much appreciated! Thank you. You can actually buy waterproof socks that can even go over your shoes, I’ve got some fluorescent ones… not like I brought them with me though 😂! On the second to last day it was raining all day feet were soaking, then my tent broke at night so I was demoralised so just slept fully clothed in waterproofs in case it rained all night. The next day I had the same socks on, hadn’t taken my trainers off in over 24 hours… When I got back home my feet were absolutely in bits, mega athletes foot. However, it’s not so bad as air when your cycling drys out your trainers. Also, you don’t put much pressure on your feet as they aren’t touching the floor like they would when you walk, so it ain’t all bad. Thanks for watching!
