Starting in Chamonix at the bottom of Mont Blanc, we thought it would be a cool idea to cross two borders and ride through three countries. It got pretty tough.

04:55 There is no "Swiss" language. In fact, Switzerland has four national languages: German, French, Italian and Romansch, spoken in different parts of the country respectively. There is "Swiss German", officially just a dialect of German (but could at least nearly be considered a separate language), spoken in the German part of Switzerland, that is to say in the center and north of the country. However, you were riding through the French part of Switzerland I believe, so people there would be speaking mostly French. "Salut" or "bonjour" would thus be the correct way to greet people. "Grüezi" is the way to greet people in Swiss German btw. 10:52 Switzerland, Italy, France etc. are in the Schengen area, mate. Unlike at the Britain-France border, there are no mandatory border checks there. In terms of Covid-19, there are some restrictions for people coming from very high risk areas (like the US or something), but you being a cyclist that probably seemed unlikely to the border guard. Other than that, the border has now been open to France and Italy for a while now.

@cameron The tarmac in our mountains is the best of the alps ;-) and there's endless roads. Only thing is, as you don't know the region, you go with the big roads and end up on those busy roads with lots of traffic and scary tunnels. You can get the same with much more tranquility. Send me a PM if you come round these parts again in 2021! Happy to share the secret spots.

If you start at the other side of Switzerland, near Zürich, you can probably do Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria, Italy in just under 200km. Or, start in Germany, Austria Switzerland Italy heading south, just over 200km. Both have a lot of climbing through the alps though. An easier ride would be Hungary, Slovakia, Austria, Czech Rep. 175km and about 1000m climbing.

@@Cameron_Jeffers Hey Cameron. One of my training rides for the Tour De Mont Blanc was the Bill Nickson chainy on Thursday nights. I bet you didn't expect a comment as specific as this did you. 330km in one day was certainly a day to remember. The top of the Grand St. Bernard was the halfway point of the ride!!! It was a mind boggling day out. People ask me how it compared to the Manchester-to Blackpool bike ride as a reference and I am not sure quite how to answer it. Descending at 5.00am in the pitch black, 1 hour descents of The Grand St. Bernard. Makes Parbold hill seem a bit tame!!!!

Cam, great video! Definitely think four countries is possible, perhaps you could include Austria? Or perhaps a trip from France, Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. The borders are close enough. It's possible to make it five if you go up through Belgium to the south of Holland. Not sure how good the cycling will be but it looks doable. Might be tempted myself.

I think you can do 4 in Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Luxembourg. There is this 3-country point of the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium and about 80km south you can go to Luxembourg as well, you can also do 5 and go to France as well, but then it would be a long ride.. But there are only a few hills there so not these big climbs
