One guy I know recently started playing D&D as a dragonborn and he is really bad at being a *tank* somehow. In literally every single encounter he has had so far he wound up getting extremely close to death or at least bloodied; and he's not even roleplaying with his character, he's just that far off. The campaign is almost half way finished and I have no idea how he has managed to live this long considering we don't have a healer or mage in the party. If you don't believe me here's a list of what he has pulled so far: First encounter: His character decided to join whichever group won and sat in the middle of a frozen lake; the result ended in him having a lot of magic flying directly towards him, falling through the ice, and a dragon flying by whilst taking a dump on him leaving one hit point. Second encounter: Stuck his arm inside of a Bulette's hole after stomping on the ground Third encounter: Without any provocation he attacked a level 15 quickling ranger, with him at level 7 I might add. The quickling beat the dragonborn hell out of him and is now screwing with him on a regular basis. Fourth encounter: He attacked a group of 8 non hostile monsters sleeping inside of their nests. At the time he thought they were "Cliff Chickens", but they turned out to be monsters that could inflict petrification on a successful hit and an automatic counterstrike when attacked with any non ranged strike. Fifth encounter: He aggro'd an entire divine group consisting of a level 14 pixie healer with an enchanted scythe, a level 15 mantis monk, an avenger, an invoker, a cleric, and a Paladin all while standing in Grey Dragon acid from the dragon they just killed. They weren't even interested in fighting us to begin with. Sixth encounter: He ticked off the NPC and nearly froze to death. Everyone in the party took heavy damage so the NPC wouldn't kill his scaly hide and no one got their much needed rest. Seventh encounter: He was reduced to 1 hit point by Kobolds. *Freaking Kobolds!* Eighth encounter: He tried screwing with a statue; it properly reciprocated when he tried prying the gems out of its eyes Ninth encounter: He refused to use any gold he had to un-curse the blade he was using and proceeded to singlehandedly tick off an entire primal fae group immediately afterwards.

Maybe because he's the dovahkinn?
@Razzlion9 жыл бұрын
The DM of your group should kill him off. Tell your DM to stop being such a pansy and just do it, if the dude has lived through that the only explanation is that the DM is actively saving him from death, prob because he don't want to kill off a player. He might think he's nice but in fact he's teaching the player all the wrong things. he should have killed him off for the stupidity in the first encounter you described already! let alone the 3rd!
@maddeninggamer9 жыл бұрын
Johan Johansson The DM is actually trying to actively kill him off as much as possible now. He has been irrevocably pissed off and is going to make him play a bard once he is killed.
@Razzlion9 жыл бұрын
maddeninggamer Good, stuff like that should be punished. I wouldn't want to have him in my party if he does stuff like that for no reason. I can understand messing with everyone now and then but he sounds like a twat..
@maddeninggamer9 жыл бұрын
Update Encounter 10: charged straight down a hallway filled with traps and set every single one off and then proceeded to smash through a wall. Encounter 11: Unleased 300 stone maggots from rotting zombies and said "for glory!" Encounter 12: He was killed, dismembered, and disintegrated by a passive character guide put in by the DM that was also an optional boss at level 25; he's the only one who wanted to do the fight. In the next campaign we will get to hear stories about how dumb his exploits were in taverns. Encounter 13: Back as a halfling wizard this time, turned a giant foe into a frog and tried impaling it with a stick. It didn't end well. Encounter 14: Went off into a blizzard alone rather than waiting for the rest of the group, got mauled by a group of dire wolves and hid in a tree until we arrived. Encounter 15: Aggro'd an Ice Golem outside our camp with 2,970 hp and very high resistances.

One of the most idiotic changes made to 4e :/
@nikushim6669 жыл бұрын
The most idiotic change was 4e it self, hell even 5E is garbage. Most people i know stuck with 3.5 or switched to Pathfinder.
@looneytoohey9 жыл бұрын
No argument there :)
@pkmn12609 жыл бұрын
nikushim666 3.5 IS TERRIBLE. Horribly unbalanced, idiotic race stats, overly complicated rules that are not needed, there is NOTHING good about 3.5 at all. PAthfinder at least TRIES to fix the issues with it and succeeds, mostly. Also, anyone who says that 4e is not as RP friendly as 3.5 is being nostalgic and idiotic, no exceptions. There is nothing in any 4e book that actively prohibits RP and the descriptions of everything lean heavily on RP.
@nikushim6669 жыл бұрын
William B " Horribly unbalanced, idiotic race stats" Thats easy to fix by putting LA limits on character creation and disallow certain WOTC books, all easily fixed on the DM's end. As for the "overly complicated rules" Not really, the core is straight forward. Sure some of the later book's had issue (same could be said about every edition of D&D) But the overall core was fine.
@pkmn12609 жыл бұрын
nikushim666 So, basically house rule everything, yeah, sorry, that is BAD game design when you basically have to house rule everything to even START to fix some of the galring issues. What does D&D 3.5 do that Pathfinder does not? some classes, like the Warlock, and that is about it. Heck, even pathfinder has serious balance issues with casters, but that is because of vancian magic system being stupidly designed and impossible to truly balance without making mages super strong or super weak.

Ah, its not so bad. Its just a different type of game.

exactly...its not DnD :( its if it was its own standalone board game and was advertised as DnD the board game then i wouldn't have a problem with it
@Atkatsuki8510 жыл бұрын
***** i'm sorry but D&D 4.0 should have been marketed as the action board game......not a roleplaying game
@YorkChangeling10 жыл бұрын
Atkatsuki85 I agree that 4th Ed. is a *much* more tactical game, but if roleplay falls flat, that's probably down to the players and DM. I've played 4th Ed. games where the roleplay was brilliant and 3.5 games where everything boiled down to rolls. I kid you not, at one point, I was having an IC conversation with this guy's elf ranger, and he rolled to Hide *while* I was talking to him. The roleplay meant that little to him.
@duncanlewis510 жыл бұрын
YorkChangeling It all boils down to how you play i agree, i liked 3.5 for the longest time cause, it was THE ruleset, but 4e is easy to learn, and keeps a decent amount of the mechanics. plus if it feels too much like an "mmo on paper" you could always use an essentials class.
