This video does NOT mention how to plug and unplug the cps "crank position sensor" from the wiring harness. I spent several hours trying to figure this out, before realizing the cps plug slides out to the right of the engine. Its held in place by two rails, so once your under the car and already have your cps out, slide the plug to the right off the rails, then your good to go. The natural tendency is to pull down to unplug it, just slide it out to the right, maybe this helps.

This video applies to the Discovery I as well. The only difference is the D1 only has two 7mm bolts... one holds the sensor, the other bolts holds the protective cover and the other side of the sensor. Not noted in the video is the fact the left exhaust manifold has to be removed to get to the IPS for either a D1 or D2. That's 8 bolts with 12mm (12 point socket), and 3 nuts with 13mm using a really long extention (eg 12+ inches). Good time to replace the three gaskets (2 for the header and one on the exhaust). Kudos again to Lucky8 for helping us keep our Land Rovers on the road (and off-road too).

Thanks for the video! The first new Bosch CPS I changed out made my 2001 Disco run sluggish af. Drove it for 2 months thinking it couldn't be the CkPS because I recently replaced it with a new one. The last straw was when I got the flashing M&S and went into limp mode. I changed out the sensor with another new Bosch sensor and it runs waaaaaaaaaaaaaay better now! Go figure... I love my Disco... and i hate my Disco...

You didn't show how to Drop the Exhaust.

What needs to be disconnected to get to the Sensor and what side of the vehicle is it on? Thanks and Cheers!! Ohhhh, I see from the video, drop the Exhaust. Got it. Though I couldn't tell where the other end of the sensor Clipped Into? I guess ya gotta get dirty to figure it out.

Great job I copied and now I am driving... On a 1999 Discovery 2

M & S lights started to blink on mine and stalled, a sign to replace this sensor. It was difficult to replace so I bought the sensor and a mechanic replaced it. Now I have my 2002 Disco back.

What are the symptoms of D2 CPS failure.... Does the motor crank over, but no start and does the Tacho (RPM) needle also not move?

any tips on how to unplug the sensor? having a really hard time with it

I just swapped mine out, car cranks but no start. if the bolts on the CPS are too tight or too loose will the cause the car not to start? OR is it possible the new one is bad?if so how fragile are these things?

Ok my new use rover, keeps stalling. charge battery, alt is fine, but hard starting. Runs then stalls. every one is saying change sensor. When i removed old senor there was a small peice of {mental or magnet) on tip ,new senor did not have it? now it wont even fire at all?

When I drive through a puddle (1-2inches) my disco 1 stalls then runs horrible for about 10 minutes. Back firing and missing,then its fine again. Does this sound like a CPS issue?

After removing the shield, and the lower 8mm nut, the top one spins with the bolt it's on. What do I do now?

It’s not that easy it took like four hours to do you can’t remove the exhaust all the time how to do it without it it was so hard to clip the piece back on from the top had my wife had to do it with her small hands
