Engine performance and fuel economy are affected when oxygen sensors become older and coated.
Watch Doug, our Land Rover Master Technician, explain the process involved in performing the Oxygen Sensor Service for a 1999-2004 Discovery Series II.
Using our money-saving kit # MHK100920SKA, with 2 oxygen sensors each for front and rear --upstream and downstream -- installation, it is recommended that the O2 sensors be replaced every 90,000 miles.

So after messing around with this for a couple hours I found out you definitely can’t “pop it a couple times” downward on the drivers side, it has to be pulled up to come off.

I replaced my O2 sensors on my 97' Land Rover and then hooked my battery back up and my horn started blowing and my lights went to flashing. Is this some how connected? Is the anti theft device activated?

I just changed all 4 o2 sensors on 2002 disco 2. Everything went well, but when I took it for a test drive I noticed a burning smell possibly coming from under the car. What is this burning smell? Could it be the manufacturers grease that was on the threads of the new o2 sensors or something else? TIA

Iv got a 2002 2.5 v6 land Rover freelander SE. And om trying to find the fuel filter van y tell me where its at it had sat for 2 years iv got it running it starrs up perfect but i want to change the fuel filter to thanks Fred.

ello good morning I have a problem with my land rover 2000 .. the 4x4 does not want to operate the lever was brought ... I wanted to climb a dirt climb and the truck did not climb try to put the 4x4 i did not work either ... i in the highway if it advances i revolves well .

could you clarify what side is bank 1 and bank 2. i have read confusing comments like bank 1 is opposite of cylinder 1? and then there is the driver side and passenger side comments, but there is the UK right side driving and the N.A. left hand side driver position?

Bank 1 is on the Drivers (LH) side for the D2.

atlanticbritish so im going to point out the confusion, if i have a U.K. version the driver seat is on the right, but looking at it from the front that would be the left side. So is this bank1 sensor 1 on the left looking from the front at the vehicle or on the left looking from the drivers seat?

Point of reference always starts from the driver's position within the vehicle. For US-Spec D2s that means the driver's seat is on the right-hand side, therefore bank 1 is on the left-hand side from the driver's perspective.

Are P0173 and P0170 fuel trim codes gonna be fixed after changing those sensors?

Hi Ahmed, with P0173 and P0170 you should first check your MAF sensor, as that can sometimes be the culprit.

I replaced my 02 sensor. Sadly bank 1 Sensor 1 is still coding, heater... Took my 02 Discovery into a friends shop and he finally found 3 broken wires in different areas of what looks like the connection off the firewall. Looks like a difficult replacement from what I could tell. Of course my friend isn't sure he wants to take it on. haaaaa! Any other suggestions out there?

The first step would be to check the fuses in the under hood fuse box since the oxygen sensors all run through a single fuse that powers them. If that fuse is intact, then check the harness for possible chafing (the wire harness can be found at the driver's side rear cylinder head). This area is infamous for chafing and can short out causing a host of issues. Also, we would also recommend an engine ECM adaption clear since the o2 sensors are a major input to the engine ECU.

verify the color codes of the harness side connectors and their positions, US spec, i have red and black, and according to wire colors the red is driver front, passenger rear and opposites for black
