Get Rich or Die Tryin' is the debut studio album by American rapper 50 Cent. It was released on February 6, 2003, by Shady, Aftermath and Interscope.[1] After signing with Eminem, 50 Cent also worked heavily with Dr. Dre, with the duo acting as the album's executive producers, who worked to combine the gangsta rap and R&B combo prevalent in New York hip hop. Additional production is provided by Mike Elizondo, Sha Money XL, Denaun Porter, Rockwilder, Dirty Swift, Megahertz, and more.
The album also contains guest appearances from Eminem, Young Buck, and Nate Dogg, as well as features from G-Unit co-members Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. Prior to the album, 50 Cent released several mixtapes alongside the Trackmasters on an unreleased album widely believed to be his debut in 2000. However, after suffering legal troubles and being blackballed from the music industry, 50 Cent found difficulty in securing another major-label recording contract, until he signed with Eminem's Shady Records in 2002.
Released a week in advance to combat bootlegging and internet leakage, Get Rich or Die Tryin' debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling over 872,000 copies in its first week of sales. The album's singles also saw commercial success, with both "In da Club" and "21 Questions" reaching number one on the Billboard Hot 100, while "P.I.M.P." became a number one hit in several countries. The album was ranked number one on the Billboard Year-End 2003 and received generally positive reviews from music critics.
Get Rich or Die Tryin' was ranked by several publications as one of the best albums of the 2000s. In 2020, it was certified 9× Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).[2] It was the best-selling album of 2003 in the US, and was nominated for Best Rap Album at the 46th Grammy Awards. It won Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album at 2003 American Music Awards and Top Billboard 200 Album at the 2003 Billboard Music Awards. In 2020, Rolling Stone ranked the album number 280 on their updated 500 Greatest Albums of All Time list.

For some that want some backstory on how the Ja Rule and 50 Cent beef started; It started after Ja Rule was out and spotted 50 Cent hanging out with a friend that robbed Ja for his chain. 50 claimed that after this incident Ja decided to start having a problem and trying to keep away from him. According to Ja Rule, 50 used this association as a way to start a beef and jumpstart his own career, with it currently being 1999 when Ja Rule was having a jumping career and 50 was in a sense a "nobody" at the time. 50 Cent would drop a diss "Life's On The Line" flipping a Ja Rule song "Murda 4 Life" where 50 clowns Ja and his crew Murda Inc. calling them phonies. Later 50 Cent and Ja Rule were booked to play the same show in Atlanta and they had a run in with each other at a hotel. Story goes that there was a back and forth between the two, Ja had a prop baseball bat that he used on stage and 50 wasn't liking how aggressive Ja was becoming with the bat so 50 took a shot and sucker punched Ja Rule, a scuffle between the two groups started, but they quickly scattered. They then ran into each other again in March 2000 after Ja and his crew rushed into 50's session at The Hit Factory Studio in NY where 50 and others were stabbed by Ja Rule affiliate and rapper Black Child. 50 Cent would later be shot 9 times outside of his grandmothers home for reportedly being a "snitch" after dropping his track "Ghetto Qu'ran" where he name dropped people from his hood calling them fakes. 50 Cent was in recovery while Ja Rule was topping the charts. 50 would start back recording mixtapes, where Eminem got ahold of one of his tapes after 50's lawyer gave one to Em's manager, Paul. Eminem and Dre would sign 50 Cent to Shady/Aftermath and the rest is history.

The fact that 50 wrote this album at my age 28 is mind blowing. What a icon. Him and Eminem at such young(ish) ages to make music like that. The shit people were doing at ages 19-25 back then whether they were ball players, musicians, actors etc any entertainers is just monstorous. Finally a great reaction channel, its been a while. You two are really watchable and i always have respect for older people who are open for new things, i hope i am as open minded when i get older. Love to see your journey. Introducing him to Em will def be fun to watch, cant wait. Mmlp or the eminem show should be it or even relapse would be interesting. The content is a lil bit over the top but the rapping is superb same with his new mtbmb project. Also albums like: like water for chocolate, infamous, southerplayalistic, only built 4 cuban and 2001 would be really dope. Glad to join this journey, love from northern cold Sweden.

50 not a bully, everything he does is a reaction to someone else's actions towards him. He's an anti-bully and puts bullies in their place, because he ain't the one for them to fuck with.

First time viewer. Love this! On many men, that line “he got shot like I got shot but h ain’t f*ckin breathin” flrefers to the situation where he got shot 8 times and survived. While he was in the hospital recovering, the person who shot him got killed. He created and performed this song with half his jaw wired shut. If you listen to his early mixtapes you can hear the difference in his voice. Keep up the great work! 👌🏿

I’d say four albums: this one, the Massacre, Beg for Mercy, and Get Rich or Die Trying soundtrack. Everything after that was a flop. I’d say his dominance was 3-4 years long.

Subbed. The name and the theme fit together, and as other commenters have noted, there is balance between music and commentary. Importantly, you let your father speak his mind, after the song is finished, or lowering the volume to comment while he's listening to it. Thus, you bridge the gap, indeed, nicely, just letting your father being himself. Greetings from Hellas. All the best. May your channel succeed and grow.
