Your father's head nod is how you properly zone out to a joint like this. I love how you react to classic hardcore '90s hip hop. So many great jewels, unmatched creativity and innovative beats, emceeing techniques and songwriting came from great crews and soloists. Your father explaining the essence of what made these songs great is excellent and necessary to pass on knowledge from one generation to another.

Fun Facts: LL's verse was a diss to 2pac. Read between the lines. And Prodigy and Keith Murray was beefin during this time. The last lines from Prodigy's verse was a shot at him
@devonnehawkins-fipps72476 жыл бұрын
Well actually the song "I shot ya" is a play off of Biggie's "Who shot ya". At one point of time before Mr.Smith album came out. LL was supposed to sign to Bad Boy Records. That's why he was "Flavor in ya Ear" remix. But the deal never went through doe. Also LL was in the studio with Big when he was recording "Who shot ya". Now the beef is because of Quicy Jones daughter. She was Pac's fiance before he died but she was LL girl before Pac. They dated when LL and his baby mama (which is his wife) was broken up. So that pretty much sums it up

I got what the son was saying with the LL and Drake comparison sonically having a lot of melo melodic jawns for women in his discography. Throughout the 90s up to the 2000s that was his bread and butter. He'drop a frew street bangers here and there to show he still had bars and be grimy like this track and a 4321 for example. Drake isn't an LL legacy and skill wise but he is that type of popular rapper trying to straddle that line with who his core audience is while wanting to be named among the elite.

This was a subliminal diss to Pac in 95. Which is why Pac came back at LL upon his release from prison in 96 with joints like Lil Homies OG, He vs She, etc.. Weird thing is that Fat Joe was helping to keep Pac safe in prison in 95 through his Puertan Rican connections. But Pac was defo beefing with Keith Murray, LL and Prodigy... even Foxy eventually.

Big ups pops for checking your seed on his comment the LL could sing. I understand what he meant though, he simply misunderstood " I need love", a hip hop ballard but not in the sense of these commercialized singing artists (can't even call them rappers)… I concur with you that Canibus won the battle against L (that second round knock out was the truth) I will also add that Moe Dee's "Death Blow" also bagged LL while he was in his prime...…..LL was simply a young star in the game against an older Moe Dee, thus many gave it to L. But lyrically D bagged L in that song. Keep schooling your seed, if more dad's did this, perhaps hip hop can still be saved with a resistant movement by young cats like your son.....movement of accountability to good music/art and push back against rubbish on the air waves.
