How do we overcome persistent racial biases when they go unnoticed? In this straightforward talk, educator Ahmad Ward challenges some conventional wisdom and explores what it will take to truly make our country exceptional.
Ahmad Ward challenges younger generations to change the dynamic of race and class in America to get the nation closer to a post-racial experience.
A North Carolina native, Ahmad is the Head of Education and Exhibitions at the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute, where his responsibilities include public programming, teacher workshops, and training sessions.
This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

My dad told me that I would add enough to nothing. I am nice, but no one loves me. I am dyslexic and I have been yelled at for being a bad reader. I wish that there was a video about the horrors of being chronically dyslexic. Because I come from a toxic family. It is a lonely life. And people complaining about the r word is lonelier. I don't really know who I am. I didn't get my DNA checked out. The r word is a hate word. We all know what race we call the r word. I will try to listen to this man talk without being judgemental. I wish that someone would validate me. A real trauma is being a war. My grandfather fought in World War One. That is really trauma. Think and stop being impulsive. I believe that during the early twentieth century, I would have been considered biracial. I also have poor vision so I don't give a damn about how people look. I used to see so blurry, I couldn't make out faces. Blur balls.

That's true because everyone is exceptional in their own way. The problem is greedy people who want to be more than who they are. They harm others or even themselves to make them feel good about their deficiencies.
