I was there in 2002. The only good thing that came out of it was that it brought the country together supporting the Red Devils. Every game Korea played had decisions that went their way, allowing them to get through the top four. As a Portugal fan, all i remember from the 2002, was the very suspicious change from Humberto Coelho as coach (who led the team on the euro 2000 campaign) to oliveira, which was a well connected individual and all the News from all night partying from the team in the hotel in korea. Guus Hiddink reshaped and reorganized the team very well; same thing he did with Russia and Turkey. Like Lebouff said; they suddenly were fast as lightning; no one knew them before the WC and suddenly they were there. Despite what happened on Knock-out stages, South-Korea totally deserved to win the group. Their team played with very fast counter-attacks, was highly motivated and fought bravely. It was actually a decent team who caught everyone by surprise. I'm portuguese, but Korea deserved to beat Portugal, we played poorly that game and the tournament, too much pressure and too little emotional control. The first red for Portugal was early and decisive, but also obvious. João Pinto almost broke Korean player leg there, hard to even watch the replay without turning your head sideways. The second red was a double yellow, a bit dubious but acceptable.

Like Totti, Gattuso, Vieri and Materazzi. Within the first 25 minutes the Koreans already had Italian ellbows and arms on their faces, all purposefully and early on they started giving it back. Also the penalty for Korea is well documented. The Panucci obviously grabs Seol and brings him to the ground. This is a give or take penalty. But the penalty situation of Totti too, because the korean actually played the ball and Totti is going into him for full contact. Maybe not a yellow card though... The commentary in the Portugal game felt pretty biased, Portugal didn't deserve to win that game, the red cards were both deserved especially the first one, the guy almost cracked the guys knee, and Portugal didn't create anything all game until they went to 9 men and then started to put the Koreans under pressure but it was too late by then, the Italy and Spain game are two of the biggest scandals in WC history though
