💥💥 The ..bitchburgh.. Steelers were always pretenders in the 90s when they went up against the NFC powers the 49ers, Cowboys, Packers and Vikings. San Francisco dominated Pittsburgh in 1990,1993, 1996 Dallas cowboys beat Pittsburgh in 1991 1994, 1997, Dallas wasn't even good in 1997 and they demolished Pittsburgh on opening day in Pittsburgh worse than this game in 1994 Green Bay beat Pittsburgh in 1992, 1995. The Minnesota Vikings beat Pittsburgh in 1992, 1995 and Pittsburgh was Lucky they didn't have to play Minnesota in 1998 because the old AFC central had 6 teams in that division. Pittsburgh did beat a terrible 49ers team in 1999 and they did beat the defending NFC Packers in 1998.

For all the stat boys who think Troy Aikman is overrated, watch this game. Against a top defense like Pittsburgh in their home stadium, Aikman shows such a quick dropback, beautiful throwing mechanics with a fast release, and great accuracy. These are big boy throws to the sideline, not the dinks and dunks you see today. He is pushing the ball, and they arrive perfectly for the receiver.

The Steelers had two opening week chances to really acquit the AFC of being too soft to beat an NFC team, both in 1993 and 1994. They lost 24-13 to the 49ers and then in this game to the Cowboys. The NFC, well the 49ers and Cowboys, were just a cut above everyone else.
@lzv6990

The 1994 49ers were one of the best teams of the 90's, but IMO, if this Cowboy team played against the 49ers in the NFC Championship Game, the Cowboys would have completed the 3-peat. Unfortunately, the Cowboys were a M.A.S.H. unit going into the 1994 NFC Championship Game whereas as SI writer Rick Telander pointed out, the 49ers were, "healthy as kittens." The Cowboys played their guts out in the NFC Championship Game, but unlike the claims leveled by revisionist historians, it was not a surprise that the Cowboys lost that game. The facts are that the 49ers were 7 point favorites, they were playing at home, and they had beaten a healthier Cowboys squad in Week 11 of the 1994 regular season. One could argue that this victory over the Steelers was the Cowboys most impressive regular season performance of the 1994 season.

1st NFL on Fox regular season game for Madden-Summerall Cowboys were defending champs. They never beat the Steelers at Three Rivers. In the 1990s, the Cowboys went 4-0 against the Steelers. If you think about it, the 1990s were a redemption for past Cowboys failures. They beat the Steelers in a Super Bowl. They went back-to-back. They beat the 49ers who a decade ago usurped them. They beat Green Bay who denied them the chance to appear in at least one of the first two Super Bowls. The final game of this broadcasting duo: Super Bowl XXXVI, the beginning of the Patriots regime…

As a Steelers fan who was born and lives in 49er country, those Cowboys teams were one of the most dominant and well balanced teams I’ve ever seen. Troy Aikman deserves to be ranked higher than people put him. He never had comeback victories because his teams were too far ahead to need to comeback. I actually miss those Cowboys teams. It made football so much fun both as a Steelers fan and seeing them battle the 49ers.

An equally rough start in Week 1 in the 1994 season as their 1993 season opener loss to the 49ers for Pitt. Neil O'Donnell being sacked was a common theme throughout this gane as was Pitt's inability to sustain drives offensively. The Cowboys made this win look relatively easy against arguably one if the best teams that coach Cowher led that did not win or make it to the Super Bowl.

Are we not gonna talk about the catch by Daryl Johnston at the 9:30 mark? What a play!! That would've been considered an amazing catch by even today's standards.

Yeah it's flag football now and making its way towards 2 hand touch. I say let these cromagnons beat eachother to a pulp I'd rather watch that. They signed up for it, they know the risks. Btw not one ounce of sarcasm in my text, that's really what I think

As a lifelong cowboys fan since the 70’s. The 94 team was probably the best one in the 92-95 years & it didn’t win the SB. Coach Johnson would of made the difference.

The 1st season of the 2pt conversion I believe the first one occurred in Cincinnati earlier that day when the Browns scored one. They were coached by some guy with the initials BB… Today that would be a potential 2-pt defensive return The Pick-2

The thing is that Dallas still had the talent thanks to Jimmy and his coaches that were still around. Barry just kept the seat warm. The two best teams were the 49ers and the Cowboys. The 49ers went ALL in that season in free agency with Deion, Gary Plummer, Bart Oates, Ken Norton Jr, etc JUST to beat the Cowboys. I know one thing in the NFC Championship if Jimmy was coaching the Cowboys wouldn't have gone down 21-0. The 49ers were just ready mentally and physically were the Cowboys weren't. Just goes to show how the Cowboys needed someone like Jimmy all along.
