I did expect for the dragon (or the monsters/creature as Netflix advertised) to have a deeper lore than just "being something evil". And WHAT I absolutely loved is that the dragon (who is a mother) help Elodie take revenge on people who killed innocent daughters, just as her dragon babys have been innocent. Also Elodie said how much she wished she could talk to her mother about all of this, clearly missing her mother (someone who understands her on a deeper level), even though she does love her stepmother as well, finding a companion in a mother who lost her daughters. The way the dragon later on flies over Elodie when she leaves the castle in a protective manner and follows her over the sea tells me, she put on a protective role over Elodie and perhaps her sister as well, maybe even in a way of her own redemption in now saving the one girl who saved her - even from herself. Both searched something and both got it. I did enjoy the movie and loved how none of the whole douchebag family survived and met their deserving end xDD Also every girl here helped each other or showed genuine joy to see each other like the first "wife" of the prince and Elodie. I lowkey hoped she'd survive long enough for Elodie to find and perhaps save her as well. I think those two would have had a great dynamic! overall very enjoyable movie!!

Having now watched it a second time (this time with my daughter)... I will say that when asked by the Queen at the end if Elodie expected them to fear her now, it would have been mor powerful if she held up her palm with the cut on it and said "No, I told her the truth. You should fear her." This would have perfectly bookended their earlier conversation where Elodie said her strongest virtue was honesty, and the Queen told her honesty 'could be' a weakness.

I love how this film handles the generational trauma of a royal patriarchy without being heavy handed. The whole “sacrifice your daughters” thing was started by a greedy king who killed the dragon’s daughters out of hatred. It was the king that fucked up, but it was his daughters who paid for his folly. Throughout history, daughters of royalty have been treated as pawns/sacrifices for their fathers security and glory, regardless of their own dreams and desires. Much like how Elodie and the other princesses were thrown into the dragons lair, daughters are thrown into arranged marriages with men that rarely have their best interests at heart, where they toil and bleed for their kingdoms greatness while the men reap the spoils. That’s why I ended up liking the father after his sacrifice, because he overcame centuries worth of ideologies that told him that daughters are disposable sacrifices and was willing to face down the dragon to save her. Consequently, that why I also loved the fact that they let the prince die alongside his family. Because yes, while his upbringing was tragic and all that, he still stood by year after year and let multiple innocent girls be sacrificed to the dragon. By doing nothing, he allowed everything and he deserved to die for that. No bs, no redemption arc, just straight up karmic justice.
@vaporwave4880

you realise the dragon could have stopped the slaughter at ANY point by releasing the kingdom from its 'debt'? Instead it chose to keep on torturing and devouring innocent girls. I really appreciated the princes’s face in the end, when they are about to be hit by the dragons flames. It was a calm and accepting expression of his situation like “this make sense and I totally deserve it”, he didn’t try to escape, flinch or screamed. Just close his eyes and wait out. And I think it also makes sense because he is complacent and just accepts things that are happening to him and does what he is told without a fight or a question, he has an inert personality until the very end, even when it comes to his death
@vaporwave4880

@@marianasouto5120 I do agree with that. I liked that scene too. But doesn't the dragon deserve to die even more though? The Prince didn't 'enjoy' sacrificing those girls, he just put himself first. So far so good for Millie Brown and her Netflix features... The two Ebola Holmes films were great... and this next one was action packed again... Makes me so happy that she is choosing these types of narrative's of strong characters that need to fight back... She would be great in a new Alien film...! This story centres on the ye old medieval times when the kings and lords think they can send out the 'weak' as a sacrifice or to appease the gods or what ever they think will keep their own peace and happiness... Not the happiness of the common folk... This is where the films gets interesting, because a character that has nothing, has nothing to loose when they know their internal character is telling them what to do..

Elodie and the Dragon are like Dustin and Dart in Stranger Things 2, like they have a bond. Just think about it, someone would probably say, "Just because the dragon scared the princesses to their deaths, it doesn't mean that the dragon is bad". "Queen Buttercup" and her ancestors were the ones who tossed all the princesses in that cave in the first place. Besides, the dragon also learned that just because a few knights or humans killed her babies, it doesn't mean every human has to pay for it. It also occured to me that the Dragon didn't really eat any of the princesses, she just scared them into that safe tunnel where they eventually died. Yes, the dragon still killed some knights, the first princess that Elodie saw her first night in the castle, and Elodie's dad, but they were both lied to (Elodie and the dragon), and that's what they have in common. That's why the dragon helped Elodie, to make sure that what she went through doesn't happen to anyone else again.

He did bad things, wasn't 100% on board with them so he accepted the consequences. They could have made him a lot more scummy. I wonder since they used the whole blood thing to trick the dragon(even though they are princesses just from another land and still royal), wouldn't it be easier to just use peasants? You can pay them off cheaper than a neighboring country and you aren't pissing off other countries by killing their kids(although with consent).

I was confused at this part too, but here's my theory about it: - Victoria saw the Crystal cave and saw the sunlight peeking from above. - She climbed the crystals and saw the same sight as Elodie: She can see the outside world, but she wouldn't be able to leave. - She went back to the Safe cave and drew a map, so she'd remember how to get back. - She goes back to the Sunlight Top a second time, and that's where the dragon arrived to kill her. - Right before she dies, she writes on the wall "Not safe, V", so that the next princesses would know that that part of the mountain is still accessible to the dragon.

How would this or any princess be able to leave a complete map of the cave system if they haven't fully navigated it yet? Once they do navigate it to where the alleged exit was, one would assume they'd exit leaving no one to complete the map. If they went back to finish it, (1) Why? You've found the exit, why risk being killed by the dragon to go back and scrawl on a wall? (2) Why wouldn't they also note that the exit isn't really an exit? It's a bit of a plot hole, or at the very least a plot contrivance.

Not sure how I feel about the "taming" part, the revenge & walk out of the burning castle was too cheesy for me, its just missing that something that brings it all together.

Hmm. I don’t really interpret Elodie’s relationship with the dragon stemming from “taming”. It’s made very clear in the movie that the dragon is a highly intelligent, sentient being capable of extreme violence when provoked that no human could stand against by force alone. I interpreted more as the dragon leaving behind her hatred and grief after finishing the royal family and going with Elodie to her kingdom to start a new life. Kinda tied back to each at the dragon said earlier. “We are the same. We’re both destined to die alone” or something like that, because now the dragon is no longer alone. She and Elodie have each other and they’re both getting a fresh start in a land untouched by Aurea’s corruption. As far as the burning the castle down scene, I agree it was very cheesy but in a satisfying way 😂

i really enjoyed it! I like that the roles Millie Bobbie Brown picks are so strong.. The trailer had me thinking that maybe escaping or defeating a dragon is a rite of passage for princesses...that would have been pretty interesting too. I wonder if the dragon adopts Elodie as a daughter and starts a new life..

It was a basic girl is no longer damsel movie. The key difference is the brilliance of her escaping and her seeing the other girls. As well as the ending for her father and the royal family. They also actually made her a normal woman and not “some badass and every man is lame bleh.” Which I appreciated because they LOVE doing that.

Damsel is a beautiful and cool movie. A heart wrenching story and brilliant special effects Elodie was forgiving, caring and courageous in nature. Totally respectable character for me. Millie Bobby Brown did a fantastic job (obviously because she's also had practice handling gigantic kaiju level lizards before )

It struck me, this could be the ancient history of Game of Thrones. The dragon who is now bonded with Elodie move into her land where people respect her as their greatest ally. Later she discovers she is not the last of her kind and with the help of the dragons the kingdom became incredibly powerful. Elodie start a family as a queen and her house will be remembered in history as the "House of Dragon".

A lot of people (toxic men, not all men) say women are weak for traits like compassion. Such as being "too emotional ". That's what I loved most about this movie. Her compassion resolved this centuries old horror show. Also loved the hint when she screamed "Burn me! Go ahead and burn me!" In this context to me, it's like a physical manifestation of the persecution women have suffered for millenia, like the witch hunts, and the dragon is the beast we had to fight to be equal. Women slayed their dragon and did it not with the blade of man, but with a woman's heart. We forged our own way in flame. I think that's why the blade didn't work the 3 times she stabbed the dragon. It was her father's, a king's sword - the tactics of man. It's when she looked within herself and found her own way that she succeeded.

I loved this movie so much! Though i don’t completely get how Elodie and her family are so chill with the dragon after she killed lord Bayford🤷‍♀ I also liked how they didn’t give the prince a full redemption arc and had him end up with Elodie anyway. I like how he just accepted his fate. And the non evil stepmother is such a relief from all the others. Also landscapes are gorgeous! Like the crystal cave and glowworm, cave and also Aurea. When a show has amazing landscapes it always lives rent free in my head. (Maybe cuz I can use those landscapes for painting ideas)

I enjoyed it. I'm going to watch kt with my daughter tonight. I appreciated that the stepmom was rhe only decent adult in the group. It seems to me that the dragon is deeply lonely, so I think she's off to live with Elodie and her ladies. No one is gonna mess with that kingdom every... Not woth dragon napalm breath.

I wish there was more dynamic between the Prince and Elodie, just because the Prince must be such an interesting subject of psychology. I wanted to see and understand how was his life, he did he mentally prepare for throwing beautiful innocent brides to death, that is sick, it should have been studied in the movie. For this reason the ending was a bit lazy for me, it was basically "burn them all" and that's it.
