Doug Polk Poker

Күн бұрын

This hand is a wild one. On a high stakes poker cash game on Poker After Dark, multiple straddles quickly lead to a massive pot that spirals out of control. Casino owner Rob Yong is fishing with 74s, while Alan Keating (close friend of Dan Bilzerian) is hoping that his AQ holds. Nearly half a million dollars will go to whoever wins this hand!

The all in is actually a great play, because the loose rich guy is more likely to call you with 30% equity than a pro. He may have got unlucky this time, but going all in with a 70% chance to win the pot is never a bad play(assuming you're playing against a loose cannon).

Keating's all in was solely to exploit Yong's inability to fold. Against any other player at the table he makes a normal size bet, but he feels that against Yong he gets looked up so frequently with any size bet that he just goes all in. To be fair, given Yong played 7c4c this way, Keating probably has a point. Yong also likely calls with any 4x of clubs hand, and if he's playing 74s, who's to say he's not playing 84s, 94s, T4s, J4s?
@sitbackandrelax1961
@sitbackandrelax1961 2 жыл бұрын
74cc is a much better call than a dry KQ or QJ and given he tanked so long with 74cc, its fair to assume KQ or QJ would have hit the muck. that leaves 44 55 A3s 45s all as snaps. i think he got pretty lucky to be up against one of the few hands he can call with that he is ahead of.

I don't think he would be that bad of a player to actually belive that, maybe he wanted Keating to give a physical tell ? I don't know, perhaps he is dumb. On the other side, I do believe the call was the smart choice.Yong has 26% chance to hit the nuts, unlike Keating, that has much lower. Besides that, even if Keating had pocket Queens his % of winning the hand would be even smaller, due the only 1 out. But, you must ask yourself. Did Yong realized this ? When Keating goes allin, denies pot equity to Yong. So Yong, needs to think if the move meant that Keating has the pocket QQ's, since he has only 1 out, Yong could probably think that if he had more equity he would bet smaller like Doug suggests. Overall I don't mind the call, but If I was on the table, I would fold. We need to remember that we can see the cards, they don't, so we should put ourselves in their minds.

I mean, preflop is terrible but once he gets to that spot on the turn he needs like 40% and he has 30% vs a value range so he just needs to be against a few combos of bluffs and depending on how loose BB is squeezing or how crazy he goes with the turn overbet range the call might not be that bad. Also if you don't care about the money in a somewhat close spot you should call for the lols and to support Doug's channel.

The biggest problem going all in with top pair post flop is you always give off nervous vibes especially if you think your opponent is chasing. The vibe you are giving off is a false display of strength which is the same vibe you give when you are bluffing thus why people in this position get called far too often by lesser hands that do not have the odds to call. Probably wiser to back your top pair with a large size bet which will portray confidence making your opponent more cautious about overvaluing their hand.

You're not a fan of the All In, because he's more likely to get called by a better hand....except he DID call him, with only one pair, and 30 percent equity...so maybe Eaton just has a good read on his wide calling range.

the problem with dougs line of thinking is that if Keating is behind to a set he's always getting called on the turn no matter the bet sizing. Andin fact, if we take Doug's line like bet 50k. that leaves us with 145k on the river. What do we do then? jam river? check / fold? it really makes no sense. There is an argument to be made here that if we slow down on the turn, then Yong might perceive this as weekness and overvalue a weak queen or draw and bet it big to try and take the pot down. at which point we can jam.
