It’s time for an update on the situation in the Red Sea and what the Houthis have been up to as of late. Spoiler alert: most of the ships are taking the longer route around Africa, but there's a handful still navigating this region.

I don't think Egypt can launch an Afghanistan war style land operation in the mountains of Yemen, even if the Yemenese government and other Arab states let them. Even in the days of the great European empires, it took over a century to deal with the Berbery pirates who were enslaving white people and attacking ships in the mediterranean, and even then it was the US navy who did the major fighting. Hiding in mountains is a great strategy, as the Taliban spent twenty years teaching the world. The US is the only country that could potentially do an effective military incursion, which is exactly what Iran, Russia and China are hoping for, and the US public wouldn't support it, so it won't happen in an election year.

@davegibson79
@davegibson79 2 ай бұрын
Yes there's no barbary pirates, but dealing with the Houthis are going to be harder, and dealing with the barbery pirates was extremely hard and took over a century. It took more military involvement to end the Barbary pirates than anyone so far has taken against the Houthis. The problem is that the Barbary pirates were ended (after a very long time) by the Western powers back at the times when they had empires and even then the main battles were left up to the USA because the Europeans were over-stretched militarily. Currently, all of America's allies are overstretched in Gaza in Israel's case, Syria in Turkey's case, North-West Africa in France's case, or helping Ukraine in NATO's case, plus no only do they no longer have empires but they have been dimilitarising since 1991. Fighting the Houthis effectively involves an Afghanistan war style operation into the mountains of Yemen. The only countries who can afford and have the power to deal with the Houthis in this way are the USA, or perhaps an alliance of local Arab states. China can't project their power that far, neither can India, and it sounds like China is content to be shaken down like it's dealing with the mafia. The US public would not support a major land operation, plus Iran, Russia and China are hoping the US does exactly this as it pins the US down. Due to the recent Yemen war and the other issues in the area, I can't see the Arab states doing anything any time soon.
@muslimresponse103

spoiler alert the Barbary pirates had no country or state but were divided groups who paid protection money to the leaders of the area until the french and others forced the leaders to stop providing them shelter and ultimately invaded Algeria and occupied it for over a century. do you see that happening today to Yemen? lol

China also got uppity about Iranian sovereignty over three islands reclaimed by UAE. So they reminded them who is the boss.

Why are the Chinese paying protection money when they already spent bank on a brand new, shiny navy? Why don't they use their navy for what it's supposed to do: keep the shipping lanes open?

Do you ever wish you had another life? I'm sitting in my dirty kitchen watching an old laptop. If things had been different, I could have been Peter Zeihan. He travels to beautiful places like this coastal France video. The world respects every word that comes out of his mouth. Maybe if the reincarnation thing is real, I'll do better next time. About the content. This piracy thing by the Houthis sure does seem like an opportunity for the US to work with the "Red" Chinese for a win win. The US Navy and Marines could help solve this mutual problem. Another comment says this is reminiscent of the Barbary pirates.

Why do you think Israel doesn’t use covert operations to find and rescue the hostages and also to take out Hamas and save the lives of innocent people. Or do you think that is even possible? Thank you
