The Utah Jazz were 26-26 knocking on the door of the play-in and the front office traded three players, the lineup was altered and they lost 25 of their next 30. Why would the Utah Jazz have done that? Danny Ainge is brutally honest about why those deals were made and says it was universally unanimous in the front office to why those deals were done.
Is Keyonte George a franchise point guard? Danny Ainge gives his thoughts on that and the value of having Keyonte George struggle this year as the #1 option without Jordan Clarkson and Lauri Markkanen. Plus, Ainge gives his thoughts on Taylor Hendricks and Brice Sensabaugh.
With the Atlanta Hawks getting eliminated the first big name is likey available. Would you trade for Trae Young? He is a top 10 pick and roll guard in the NBA, he is with the elite scoring guards in the NBA. However, is this a player you want to make a move for?
Plus, David Locke, radio voice of the Utah Jazz and Jazz NBA Insider gives his thoughts on two playoff series that intrigue him this weekend.,

Trading for Trae just seems like a terrible idea for a team that is already 30th in team defense.

Winning Championships is a process. For us it's getting in the play-in game 1st. Then playoffs, then C.Champ. Then finals. NBA Championships are so tough to get.

No to T. Young please, he will kill the team. Unless the Jazz wants to tank to the bottom for Flagg next season? But T. Young will lock up a lot of cap space and the Jazz will lose a lot of assets to the Hawks.

I have always said we should have traded Gobert and Kept Mitchell and tried to win something with MItchell and if not done and he still unhappy trade him this year like Cavs are going to do. Sure get less picks but Twolves gave us enough picks.

Another great show today. Trae Young isn't very exciting as an option unless he comes really really cheap. Is he even a top 20 player? Two top 30 guys barely gets you into the play-in, so it doesn't feel like a fit per DA's other comments. The Jazz should just wait for a real star to become available, but, in the meantime, tank as hard as possible to maximize their own draft assets. Ron Harper's son looks like the real deal in '25.

The problem with the Jazz is that from the outside looking in, there appears to be no plan. We traded every starter last year because we were offered too much to turn down, but the trades made before the deadline seemed to come from nowhere after putting together a competitive team. Then, this season, we expected to either tank in a weak draft or try to make the playoffs to safguard our pick to the Thunder. Yet again, we made the trade before the deadline and went from being competitive to being in full tank mode. Can we just pick a plan and stick to it?

No way to Trae Young. If you didnt think Don was good enough Trae certainly isnt. Im not paying 50 mil for a defensive liability. No team he is on will ever win anything of significance because of it. And hes also kind of high volume and inefficient. He is I.T. with extra steps. He is basically a super fancy tank commander. You will NEVER be better than Dobert Era Jazz with Trae as the top player. Theres just no point to players like Trae when players like SGA exist.

Frankly, the worst place you can be is in the play in tournament. That is the least desirable outcome for an NBA season. No chance at a championship, and little real chance to improve. You could stay there for years before you slowly start to decline.

I don't think it's great that Danny doesn't think the regular season matters. Partly because I think he's wrong - you can't lose all year and then get into the playoffs and win. Ask the Warriors, and good luck to the Fakers against the Nuggets. Even if Denver is a weaker team than last year they're more likely to sweep LA than LA is to take that series. But also, the fans that pack the arenas for 41 home games a year might beg to differ that the regular season is a joke, and I don't think Danny should be trying to convince them of that. Are the Jazz going to start handing out free tickets to those meaningless games? Giving away NBA streaming subscriptions for them? He's not wrong that the Jazz were not as good as the appeared in the 4 weeks before the trade deadline, and you can make a case that the trades were the right thing to do. But there IS a responsibility to try to field a team and play good basketball.

Young contract is not wanted as I doubt he would perform at that level with the jazz. Young does have value. He might actually unlock others to play to their potential so not against it but just think there might be better ways to do that. Murray is far better contract. One of those two players will be available. Jazz will look 👀

San Antonio needs a player like Young. The Jazz don’t. He’s never going to lead a team to a championship without a player like Wemby. Coby White or Jalen Williams would be a better move for us at point. They have matured into well rounded leaders and are ready to be the face of a franchise. They are team players and mentors while Young is egotistical and makes his teammates worse. When DeRozan retires the Bulls will want to go into rebuild mode and the Thunder are almost too deep at this point and need to offload current assets for draft capital way down the road that we have.

wrong analysis by Ainge and staff. He says we werent good enough which is probably true but the real analysis do the players you traded away could be part of the future vs the players you get in those picks. The players Jazz traded away are good solid players to come off the bench on a winning team. Clarkson and Collins are the guys that should have been traded away not the guys we traded away.
@imnotmike
@imnotmike 2 ай бұрын
Olynyk was 33. His trade value will be gone in a year or two, and he's not going to be able to come off the bench by the time the Jazz are ready to compete. Very few players last beyond age 35 in the NBA. Only stars generally last that long. Just look at Joe Ingles. He's gone from 2nd place finish for 6th man of the year when he was 33, to barely being able to get garbage minutes in just 3 short years. He has no trade value today. KO will be the same. Fontechio was great, but he was going to get a big contract that we couldn't match in free agency. We were going to lose him and get nothing in return at the end of this year. He was a one year rental in a year where we weren't going to compete, and then he'd be gone for nothing. Now, we get a little something. Agbaji, we'll see how his career goes, but I'm not convinced he's going to be a difference maker in this league. I agree that Clarkson needs to go, but I think we waited too long. I don't think we'll get anything for him at this point. We'd probably have to give up assets just to get rid of him. That's why you trade a guy like Olynyk before he loses all his trade value. Otherwise you're stuck with a rotten lemon. You only keep valuable older role players if you're in a position to compete right now. I think Collins is a fine piece. 15 points 8 rebounds a game, with good efficiency and reasonable defense. I don't know why people are so down on him. I'm fine with trading him if we get a good deal, but I also see no reason to be in a rush to get rid of him.

@@imnotmike I get it I just disagree with it because assets Jazz got are worth little except they benefited from tanking to get 8th pick. Abaji is a solid 3 and D guy who doesnt require shot and a good ball mover. Tech is a bonafide NBA starter on a title team. Kelly O could have been kept on as a solid bench guy and good Lockeroom guy. It was a bad deal!

Young is a poor defender, gets injured more than he should at his age, and acquiring his salary would be an ill-advised investment; plus, he'd be a rental for sure. The Jazz have plenty of scorers but few defenders. In both the draft and in free agency, this failing must be addressed. And, whatever they do, if the team's play does not equal what we saw before tanking, this entire endeavor would be a failure. Look what GS did in drafting what would be two top ten rookies based on production. It made the difference between making the playoffs or not.

the problem is, you end up pissing off guys that want to win and by choosing to mail it in, you're essentially fostering a losing culture. If you knew at the deadline you weren't competitive (these past two years) enough for your liking, then why not just tank outright so you can get a higher pick? Danny has been a blowhard for decades. Get used to being irrelevant unless he's able to take advantage of a moronic owner. Without those two moves (KG and Pierce trade and the Fultz trade) he wouldn't have lasted in Boston. He's a complete fraud and can't draft outside of the top 3 to save his life.
