Each of the Darksiders games have done different types of RPGs. The first one did a Zeldaish thing, 2 was more of a open world looter type with all the side quests and stuff, and this one is doing a Souls type of game. I dig it. I hope it does well enough to at least get us a game with Strife.

Am i wrong in thinking D1 was more like God of war, being linear, while D2 was the zelda one with its open design and tools from dungeons? its been years since i played them, but that's how i've remembered them.
@RoseOfSharyn185 жыл бұрын
@@immortalweapon I wouldn't say you are wrong. I just always though Zelda when I played D1 because of the dungeons, you get the tool that helps you traverse the dungeon and then you go around the world and get the collectables and stuff you missed with your new tool. Both games did it but D1 had a bit of an open world were God of War didnt really do that at the time.

maybe that was the idea, who knows, maybe those types of RPG signify of the personality of the horseman? for example ds1 being more linear as war was only seeing one path, the path of his objective, death being more open world since he have to learn and balance a lot of things before acting and fury being more like a "souls" type showing her hot yet strict temper with precise movement, with this in mind i'm afraid of strafe being a RPG shooter xD

Y'know, in this time of microtransactions, lootboxes, xp boosts and buying orbs with real money, it's nice to see a good ol' hack and slash that you can buy, play, have fun and that's it. Perhaps that's what we need: more 2012 games.

If that's how low of a standard there is these days, I think you all just maybe bough the wrong consoles/games, none of the games I play have lootboxes and very few have microtransactions. Also for all the game sI've played DLC was only developed after the base game was finished.
@anthonyroyforbes5 жыл бұрын
@@zeroskaterz92 1 I'm not an idiot but feel free to keep thinking that because it doesn't matter and 2 just because there's a list of combos doesn't mean you have a hack and slash game. The reason I said it wasn't a hack and slash is because in this game they give you the ability to do these bad ass combos( I think fury fights really fucking cool) but the developers didn't give fury the durability to fight the hordes of demons and Angel's that they throw at her . The bosses however are pretty easy and that's when the game feels like a hack and slash...

As a hardcore fan of the serie since the first one, i must say even with it's flaws, it is a good simple game. Darksiders has always been a AA game not a AAA (D2 tried and failed, too big, too empty and not even finished correctly), and you can't note this game without thinking of where it comes back from. The team behind D3 is 60 persons, almost half the 1st one team, taking on a license that almost died with THQ. And they did a great job saving it and keeping it's core identity. And for those who say "identity crisis" talking about Darksiders, it is a serie that reference others games since the beginning. War was a mix of Zelda and God of War, the second one took inspiration in ARPGs, and the third one in Metroid/Darksouls. 4 Horsemen, 4 type of games. I'm almost sure Strife will have some Gears of War/Devil may Cry inspirations. The game is certainly not perfect, but in this industry nowadays, having a simple 15 hours, no micro transaction, no lootbox, no game as a service, old school adventure game is a real breath of air. ^^

Glad a series that had a plan going forward was given a second chance (or third I guess?) but I hate some of these reviews online for this game. Not directed at Gameranx itself but some say "It's four years late and uses four year old game mechanics" or "This feels like an early PS3 title". Bitch, I'm going back and replaying Resident Evil 4 right now and that game STILL is better than 95% of the third person shooters we have today and it's more than a decade old. I'm sick of games being criticized for having 'dated' mechanics. So tell me, what are the new and fresh mechanics? Fucking us in the ass with micro-transactions, taking up 700,000 GB of space on your hard drive, having toxic and pretentious fanbases? Does it have to hold your hand the entire way through? Or how about not having interesting combat and forgetting to include boss fights? I mean some of these people thought Red Dead Redemption 2, a game that literally locks on to every enemy for you so you can shoot them, was too clunky to control. Maybe once in a while we want something that is a little 'gamey', when did that become a bad word in this industry? THQ Nordic also owns the rights to Destroy all Humans, so here's hoping they get on with that series as well!
@danenagai11575 жыл бұрын
Sadly, this is a different generation now. Nowadays, everyone wants something "revolutionizing" and "innovative" and "refreshing". Seeing these reviews worry me not because they think this should've "died and left buried in the rubble", but because we (as a fandom) have waited this special moment to finally continue where the story left off, and then later on find that it was considered mediocre and wait for who knows how many years, ending at another unresolved cliffhanger due to average reviews and middling sales. I recently saw a tweet from Jim Sterling sharing his review of it, and while haven't I seen it due to wanting to avoid potential spoilers (though, that didnt saved me from seeing spoiler thumbnails by some jackass KZfaqrs every time I'm on the damn site), the last few words he wrote just hurt on a deep level. Sure, the series hasn't been the most original when it comes gameplay mechanics, but the way it tells its story is what brings the magic that all of us dedicated fans have been yearning for. I'm about to get my copy today at full price, and I hope every fan out there does it as well to get the story continuing until it concludes on a satisfying note.
@Gulyus5 жыл бұрын
@@danenagai1157 To sum up Sterling's review; It's an ehhh dark souls rip off without a stamina bar, and doesn't feel like Darksiders II. There was a small spoiler in the review (because he didn't care for the game he started dropping them without a warning for a few minutes so do avoid the review).

Agreed.
@FrameTheTime5 жыл бұрын
I agree. I hate when reviews knock games for not bringing anything new to the table in some way, shape, or form as if innovation is the only thing that composes a good game. Doom 2016 did absolutely nothing new but that game was universally loved and appraised so they can't hold innovation as a standard to rate by. There is no "standard" for good game. A game is good based on how it combines different elements and tropes of gaming and the way it executes its delivery of it all. And even then, at the end of the day it's all subjective because what one person thinks is a good game someone else may find bad.

He never said that as a critique. He said that to explain how the game is and said it was a good thing. "It's not pompous at all, it knows you just wanna play a game" which is how every Darksiders game is. Everyone gets so fucking butthurt over nothing. I've beaten 1 and 2, and I'm getting around the end of 3 now, and I can say all his critiques were fair. Darksiders is a flawed series. Darksiders 2 wanted to be an RPG, but also a puzzle, action, Prince of Persia, Zelda game.

I thought the game was good. it took me 22 hours and I got the good ending. Cons: Cheesy dialogue kinda hard Camera is weird Group fights take a bit to get used to It's not as metal/brutal as the last games. Fury isn't super likable (but it makes sense considering the other games) Pros: It's Darksiders Combat is fun, perfect dodges have lots of oompf Fun story, lots of good reveals about the universe and plot. Boss fights are enjoyable Character designs are great Decent upgrade system I'd say pick it up now if you really like the franchise and maybe wait for a sale if you don't. It was exactly what I was looking for in a darksiders episode but just know that it's an older style of game made by a studio that's trying to pick up the pieces. I think they deserve all of the love and affection with a healthy dose of constructive criticism, not hate.

I hope they continue with this series for the 4th horseman. I have been a fan since the original Darksiders. I think each game has had it's pluses and minuses, but the series all in all has been a blast to play through. Sorry for the wall of text in advance. Some of my opinions on each game so far: Darksiders - War was a great character design and felt somewhat "tanky". The combat was not overly complex or deep, but the story layout was done really well and it kept you moving through with no regrets. The upgrades felt significant and opened up a lot of area to backtrack to as well as many secrets you could find hidden throughout. In my opinion what really shined here was the areas you went through. They were very well thought out and just worked well together, not only aesthetically but in functionality of incorporating puzzles into them as well. The downside to this is it was less open world and more like branching paths that all interweave with each other. There was a great mix of puzzles, collection, story and combat. Darksiders 2 - Death was awesome and felt completely different from War in play style while still feeling like a Darksiders game. Combat in this game was so much faster and fluid. There was a vast open world to play in and it was fun exploring, although it did not seem to have the detail of the first games areas. I am guessing this was something that took a hit due to the shear size of the world. A lot of the areas felt very "copied and pasted". The story in this was still very well done how it was weaved within the first story but did not interfere with what had happened in it either. Getting loot and comparing it to what you had was another great feature, although you felt RNG was just screwing with you sometimes and by the mid game you were getting way less upgrades making them feel less important. A lot less puzzles were in this game and it was more about straightforward combat, a lot of times just throwing you in an arena and having you fight waves of enemies. While this still had some puzzles, collection, a good story and combat, the focus seemed to lean on the combat. Darksiders 3 - While I love Fury's design she seem to stick out more than War or Death. By "stick out", I mean she does not seem to fit in the Darksiders world as smoothly, but maybe this was intentional to make her always the stand out character on screen. Fury has fast combat close to Death's, but overall not as deep as that combat system. The utility in her different forms is what makes her stand out. I really like the story in this one and it is probably the biggest driving factor of this game. Story-wise it lets you see the world from a different perspective. Again, less puzzles in this one than even part 2 had. In my opinion, this is the hardest of the Darksiders games, even on the Balanced difficulty, just because Fury, even after upgrading, seems weaker than both War and Death were and dies in very few hits in comparison to the other games. The world design is closer to 1 than it is to 2 in this one, but with hardly any puzzles into the design. The boss characters were well designed and fun to fight against to the point a lot of the areas you go through just feel like filler they put in to play in while you look for the next boss.

Personally I think the combat makes sense when you think of the weapons for the horseman. War had a greatsword and was basically a tank. death had weapon versatility with all the choices so I can understand being a ble to cc and fight big waves depending on weapon equipped. I'm not sure how I feel about her having a whip, but at least they kept the combat true to the weapon.

I bought the $400 Apocalyptic Edition, been a HARD fan since day one 8 years ago. I’m even getting a Tattoo or War because of how big a fan I am. In my opinion I feel they made it far too difficult. I played on story mode to enjoy the game first then come back and play the harder difficulties. However even on the weakest difficulty, just normal villains can be extremely rough. This game focuses more on a DarkSouls feel and I dislike that a lot for this series. The first two games were amazing and I could kill a skeleton in a few hits, however in this game a skeleton will literally beat you into the ground. So far I’ve been getting a lot of lag and a glitch here and there. This game wasn’t what I expected it to be at all however I still have high hops for patches in the near future. Also let’s not forget we still have Strifes Story to explore next game ;)

While I don't agree. There's something I can add. That thing on why you liked the first more and can't quite put your finger on it. It's because the first game was a masterfully crafted love letter by passionate and experienced devs who wanted to make something cool. This game is the result of studios closing, IPs moving hands, and a new studio imitating other games. They did a decent job, and I love the AA feel of it, as if it were a game from ~2012 or so. Honestly loved it. But yea. Whereas the first one was a love letter to certain other games done by very experienced devs, this one was a bit of a two pronged imitation. It ended up well put togeather, but not masterful. It lacks that je ne sais quoi, that final polish, that perfect balance.

I played the game yesterday around one hour, my main problem is the dodging system and some times the healing prosses. I know you need to be good at dodging and need a perfect timing, but when I pressed the dodge button I felt its kind of stiff not as fixable as Darksiders 2. If you face a multiple enemies and they are quiet fast, then the dodging will not be that much of help, if its keep stiffing like that. The healing prosses kind of reminded me of Dark Souls games. You need to take a distance so you can use healing gem or power gems. Sometimes I got killed trying to heal my self, if the enemy was fast. I love the Darksiders franchise and I will keep playing this awesome game and I think if I continue playing and level up my character maybe the dodging will get better.

This game was a lot of fun. It took a little bit to get used to the combat. It really is about enemy management, you don’t want to fight huge groups of enemies, but after a little bit I really enjoyed the challenge. I had no problem with traveling to the first check point and going through the map from the beginning finding things I hadn’t come across the first couple times. You really feel the power of the upgrades doing this too. Making easy work of sections that gave you trouble earlier. Story is a bit bland but not so bad that I felt I had to skip cut scenes. 7.5/10
