Great reaction! So, Macedonia the country (now Officially called North Macedonia) and Macedonia the region of Greece are two different places. Greece and North Macedonia (the country) have had a long historical dispute about rightful claims to the Ancient Macedonian heritage. Basically Alexander The Great was born in the Greek region of Macedonia, spoke greek , adhered to Greek customs and and beliefs and basically spread Greek culture through his massive empire. So , obviously , the consensus is that he was Greek and so was his empire. North Macedonia (the country) as a region used to be a part of the Great Kingdom of Macedonia (along with Greek Macedonia) and throughout time and as the empire and the kingdom eventually fell from grace and "collapsed" the regions where conquered many times by many different groups (including the Slavs) which is predominantly the population that resides in North Macedonia (the country) today. North Macedonia (the country) used to be part of Yugoslavia up until very recently, basically till the 1990s and after the split of Yugoslavia they where looking for a new national identity , it was then that the leaders decided to start claiming Ancient Macedonian heritage which was instantly disputed by Greece since they felt they where the rightful ancestors of the Macedonian kingdom. There is a lot of amazing things to check out about Greece's history as well as the country itself today. I'd like to see you react to "Greek Gods Explained In 12 Minutes" video by The Life Guide

A small addition to this otherwise excellent comment would be that the autonomous region withing Yugoslavia that ended up becoming the "North Macedonia" was previously called Verdaska before this "rebranding plan" took off. The region's population was and still is Slavic while their language is a direct offspring of the Bulgarian language. This is the result of the Monastir region, a greek named region totally within modern North Macedonia, being back in the 12th-13th century the center of the Bulgarian Nobles and Scripts. Now, the "rebranding plan" that I mentioned earlier was envisioned by Tito the then leader of Yugoslavia and backed, with his blessings, from Stalin the then leader of USSR. After all, Yugoslavia and USSR were the only multi-ethincal communist countries in Europe and shared many common "problems". Tito's plan was to rebrand the area to Macedonia and identify it as the succesor of the ancient Makedonian Kingdom. Tito served multiple purposes with this plan. First of all, he stabilised the region and kept it apart from the Bulgarian neighbors, who, as they spoke the same language, thought they have rightful rights over it considering it part of "Greater Bulgaria". Secondly, Tito who was Croatian and felt rivalry to the Serbs, through this plan managed to stop Serbia from fully assimilating the region as they were two neighboring autonomous regions of Yugoslavia both with Slavic population and had been both under Serbian rule before the "Yugoslavian Era". Thirdly, by recreating a Macedonian kingdom with ideas of Liberating the Macedonian south and creating the "Greater Macedonia", Tito opted to, given the right chances, extend Yugoslavia's border to the Aegean sea, a goal vital for both the Yugoslavia and the USSR. Thus their ethinicity became "Macedonian" from "Slavic" (so long Serbia), their Language "Macedonian" from "Bulgarian" (so long Bulgaria) and Greece suddenly became the bad neighbor that oppresses them and the truth about the Macedonian heritage that only they represent so they rightfully should reunite the former Macedonian Kingdom and thus expand on greek territory. End of story
