I have been to 79 of their shows and I have never seen the same setlist. They are the most incredibly talented group and they feed so well off each other and the crowd. Literally any song from Under The Table and Dreaming, Crash, or Before These Crowded Streets is phenomenal lyrically, musically, and vocally. My favorite songs are The Stone, The Dreaming Tree, Two Step, Don't Drink the Water, Cry Freedom, Say Goodbye, Help Myself, Pig, Rapunzel, Rhyme and Reason, and Warehouse. Live is always the best way to experience their music and soul. Was so excited to see this post Anton! Thanks man!

These guys were HUGE where I went to University (Boulder, CO) and I was more into metal back then so I never really got into these guys. I heard some of the hits on the radio (like Crash Into Me, Space Between ), but that was pretty much it. But later on I totally got into them. I love the instruments and the lyrics. They have a ton of great songs. The Violin is my favorite (and yeah, I only call it a fiddle in country music, so I say call it a violin all you want

Great reaction! You should do a reaction to the song “Don’t Drink the Water” the live version from Central Park. It will blow your mind lots of loud sustained chorus and vocals.

DMB is the sound of my childhood. Its the sound of getting into my fathers car and driving down the high way with him singing slightly off key and banging on the dashboard trying to mimick the band. Weve grown apart, both physically and ideologically, but music, and more specifically early DMB, still brings us together.

Dave Matthews Band is a top favorite of mine. One of the most incredible artists to see live. The vibe is incredible through the crowd and it is just so... chill. The live versions versus album are different, they are really jammy live and its awesome.

This is far more reflective and introspective than a typical music reaction. I try to wait until the end before commenting, but by doing so I forget what I was going to say or completely lose the context. I love the way your mind works, Anton, and it would be fascinating to have a conversation with you. Your perspective and your openness - on school, on life, on so much - is a real gift, and I hope others take the opportunity to hear what you have to say. And I also hope you find peace and fulfillment in your new home. As for the music, I’m not a big concertgoer but I did see DMB once at an outdoor amphitheater in Camden, NJ. They are so musically unique and lyrically complex. The listener can choose to dive deep into the meaning or just forget everything and enjoy the sound. Glad to see this reaction.

You should give some of their live stuff a shot, that’s where they really shine. I used to be a concert fanatic and have seen countless bands in concert, no one comes close to DMB. Best live band I’ve ever seen, been my favorite since 93’ Two step, grey street, seek up, lie in our graves, the stone… give one of them a try.

Grey Street, Grace is Gone, So Much to Say, What Would you say?, Jimi Thing, American Baby, Crush, Crash into Me, The Dreaming Tree, Under the Table and Dreaming. My husband's and my song is Two Step by them. It's gorgeous. Lyrics: Say, my love, I came to you with best intentions You laid down and gave to me just what I'm seeking Love, you drive me to distraction Hey my love do you believe that we might last a thousand years Or more if not for this, Our flesh and blood It ties you and me right up Tie me down Celebrate we will Because life is short but sweet for certain We're climbing two by two To be sure these days continue These things we cannot change Hey, my love, you came to me like wine comes to this mouth Grown tired of water all the time You quench my heart and you quench my mind

Dude, I feel like you'd genuinely love DMB like you love Matchbox 20. DMB is so unique in their sound, such an integrated mix of so many different worlds/sounds. Dave himself is from South Africa. He grew up there, England and the US. The band has changed dramatically since 2008. The saxophonist tragically died in 08, the violinist left the band years later under some ugly circumstances. But DMB has persevered! The drummer, Carter Beauford, has been voted by Rolling Stone as one of the best of all time. And Dave himself is a god damn genius. Please listen to more, you won't be disappointed. Thanks for this one, Anton. ❤

Please 🙏🏻 do more DMB!! They are so amazing especially live when they just jam out! Each musician is so ridiculously talented that it’s mind blowing to watch them perform together so flawlessly. Carter the drummer is ridiculous! One of the best drummers alive. The bass player is a child phenom who joined the band at 16. And Dave’s dancing is the cutest! I’ve been waiting 30 years for any band to come close to topping DMB but no one has ever come close in my opinion! Keep digging man! Try some of their live stuff like Grey Street, #41, All Along The Watchtower, Tim Reynolds and Dave performing Bartender. Also Boyd the violin player is classically trained violinist but he switches between his violin playing and fiddle style to even plucking it. He does perform with electric guitars but he doesn’t play them himself. He invites incredible musicians to perform with them. I think your comparisons are correct with Smooth and Jason! All were big at the same time in the late nineties and 2000’s along with Pish who they had a lot of crossover fans with. The lyrics in The Dreaming Tree and Grey’s Street are unbelievable and spoke volumes to me at different times of my life ❤

Great reaction. The band line up has morphed quite a bit since this was recorded. They have an electric guitar player now. 😉 As for the vibe of DMB it's mostly sexy Carpe Diem. Warehouse #41 Two Step Rapunzel Pig All great live songs by them, the first 3 are their most requested/played. Also their cover of All Along The Watchtower is a fan favorite.

I came here to recommend Dave Matthews & Tim Reynolds "Bartender" from Radio City, but looks like 5+ people beat me to it. You describing what you like vocally & tonally from your early breakdown all but insure you'll be blown away by that performance. Not only is the song incredibly deep and powerful, but the improvised intro & outro leave me absolutely speechless. I've listened to that song probably 1000x by now and it's like hearing it for the first time, every time.

One of the great things about Dave is that he has a fantastic sense of humor. He played Nicole Kidman’s in the closet husband in the Adan Sandler movie “Just go with it” and did a scene where he picks up a coconut with his butt. It endeared him to us forever.

Check out an acoustic set with Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds from Radio City Music Hall. The song, “Bartender.” Completely different vibe, but you’ll probably gain some more appreciation for his vocals and passion when performing live. Some of the other comments are spot on as well. Dave is best seen live, including reaction videos. The one i mention is by far one of my favorite, second to his entire concert at Central Park (amaze balls!). Since you asked :) Lyrics to that song are incredibly deep as well interested how you would interpret them

re: moving for a softer, more languid lifestyle, have you spent much time in the PNW? Specifically Vancouver Island is a much slower pace than most of Western culture. it's largely the natural beauty, but also an influence of the Coast Salish people. I'm on a little island off the big island (every coast city here has an island where all the hippies live 😅) and it's exactly the kind of lifestyle you're talking about. "Island time" is a real thing!

Crazy the school thing you mentioned. I was an excellent student. I did very well. I loved school, but I hated Art class. I was in second grade and my teacher kept making me redraw this clown assignment over and over and over. I even went home to my mother and asked her how to draw hands. Then I go back in and he criticized it more. So then, I ditched. I ditched ART class, in 2ND grade! I would go hide in the bathroom before class and stay in there the whole time. He was an awful teacher. I never took another art class. 😣
