I love so many things about this performance, but I think my favorite is how Matt uses it to demonstrate that yeah, he can make his guitar make whatever sound he wants at any time. The command of energy in the stadium is unreal.

Every time Dave calls out an influence I'm like, yeah, exactly! After 20 years of listening to Muse I fail to make the connections and Dave's first listen he's like, yeah, that's the influence. Tell me you know your stuff without telling me....

I love this band, for how it fulfills me and yet leaves me bereft when it stops.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but the pedal is a Whammy pedal, it essentially just shifts the pitch up and down, Morello loved it. The trick here is that Matts guitar is also packing a Fernandez Sustainer, a magnet that actively induces vibration in the strings, it almost sounds like it buzzes and will continue buzzing even if he doesn't touch the strings.

From one musician to another (Dave will get it): you don’t have to LOVE Muse, but as any Rock musician, it’s very, very good and useful to know this band, they do make you expand your horizon. From the 6:50 point, the band is doing improv as you said, and it's based on what the members like in music, their influences, etc. You're spot on on the Tom Morello thing. The frontman's (Matthew Bellamy's) guitar playing is on occasion heavily influenced by RATM. In fact, the first riff right after the song is a variation on 'Microphone Fiend'.

For the record, almost all of Bellamy's guitars basically have built-in pedals too, which is why it might sound weird. And the kind of weird stuff like the touch bar that distorts. They’re all custom built in England, and some models are available commercially now that he made them so popular. Edit: I decided to not be lazy and look it up, they’re made by Manson Guitars. Most of their guitars look like Bellamys', but that’s mostly a result of him making them popular. He worked with the owner to make an original design too.

Hello there! The guitar's pedal is call "the wammy". It's a pitch shifting pedal . You can modulate the pitch of the sound (guitare or everything else) up or down like a volume pedal. It was popularized by Tom Morello with rage against the machine back then 😁 . Matthew Bellamy also have a custom midi guitar (with a kaos pad built in it) and can do a lot of crazy sound with it!

He plays keyboards, guitar and theremin... with his foot!

Wow fuck I forgot how much I loved this song. Honestly Muse can be a bit hit and miss and they tend do either one to the extreme. This whole era of them is the best though, Origin of Symmettry and Absolution being the 2 classics for me.

His biggest influences are Jimmy Hendrix, prince and Tom morello . If you haven’t seen them live then you need to go do that. They are at the same level as TOOL live, it’s basically a religious experience 😂
