Thanks for making this video. It turns out my problem was the actual humidifier filter was never replaced since it was installed 13 years ago, so the water was not being absorbed/spread by the filter mesh at all and just falling through to the bottom of the filter unit and eventually down the drain--the filter mesh was crusted with calcium/mineral and dry as a bone at this point. I've been wasting water for god knows how long since the humidifier setting was set to high--essentially like turning on the faucet and let the water flow constantly for years without any humidifying taking place.

Good job. Now I know what to look for. Thanks! EDIT: So tonight I went through all the checks you showed. I figured out that mine hadn't been running just because the air hasn't been as dry as i thought. I turned it way up past the click and it worked, so I'm good.

Thank you man. I had 0 knowledge about these humidifiers , I’m very handy ( as an east European we fix everything ) but we didn’t have these humidifiers there. Mine have solenoid problem after I saw your video. Thank you thank you thank you 🙏

I was thinking my solenoid was bad, went back and started from your list @ 3:14. I hadn't opened the saddle valve fully/enough. Years back I was working in a crawl space and didn't have any way of knowing if I'd opened it enough, and thinking at some point it would stop turning, I just kept going. Now maybe there are some with a stop but this one didn't. Saddle valve "floods" and getting cut on a can lid. My two biggest fears. Thanks for the vid!

Thanks for posting! Props to you, man! I thought I had gone through the easy steps, but I hadn't checked the internal wiring because an HVAC guy recently replaced the main board. I assumed he knew what he was doing and did it right. I was wrong. He plugged in a wire that was labeled HUM, but it wasn't the live wire for my Generalaire humidifier. I plugged in the right one to the board, and now it's working. I'm glad I didn't pay those jokers to come out and fix their problem. Maybe I should undo what I did, have them come out, and see what they try to charge me.

great video. Mine turned out to be the saddle valve was set to off for some reason. I wouldn't have thought to check that, but you had it in your list!

I was sceptical, but lo and behold, I opened up my furnace and there was a loose wire. Connected that up and I was off to the races.

Pertect! Mine is clogged or something to not get water. Going to check the saddle valve first to see if it is clogged and change out old filter. Then maybe it is electrical issue like you outlined. Thanks

Mine (Aprilaire 550M) wasn’t working. Turned humidistat until it clicks- no click from solenoid. Check AC supply to humidistat (furnace blower must be operating), got 24VAC. Checked 24VAC at solenoid, Nothing. Cracked fitting on inlet of solenoid, got water. Conclusion= bad humidistat. Ordered humidistat, 15 min. to install the same model, humidifier now working.

Mine is working how it should however I turn the water line from the water tank leading to it off when not in use, and on when I want more humidity. I’ve had the water line off now for a few days, but I just went down and noticed the water that fills up in the bottom hasn’t drained and it usually does. I turn the system to off on the thermostat as well if that helps. Any idea why it hasn’t drained?

Great video. At the end when you pulled up the hose on the top of the humidifier, was the furnace on or off?
@DaveWirth
@DaveWirth 4 жыл бұрын
The furnace was on. That should be the only time the humidifier is on so the furnace air can blow through the ducts.

Isn’t the orifice the plastic restrictor in the water line? Are you referring to the solenoid valve?
@DaveWirth
@DaveWirth 2 жыл бұрын
Ya you are right. The solenoid is the rectangular and cylindrical metal thing on the side that opens and closes to allow water through. The orifice is a small plastic restrictor that fits inside that.

Great video man. I have the same exact humidifier model as yours on my furnace from 2001 and it's been a week and no increase in my home's humidity! Damper fully open, pad is new and installed correctly, solenoid clicks and works I can see water dripping down the pad. I don't understand why my humidity is still so low 16% after a week! I turned the humidistat on full and after 3 days still 16%! I can see water dripping into my floor drain from humidifier when the furnace is running so I know it's flowing and should be working since I initially fired it up a week ago. My furnace is in a fully finished basement that's 1400sqft. Main floor is 2100 sqft, but after a week of constant heating cycles I feel that the humidity should have raised by now. Any ideas man? Thanks

What are the chances that your problem is the same as others?
@DaveWirth
@DaveWirth 4 жыл бұрын
Probably zero. But the process is what counts. Going through and checking each step along the way till you find the problem. Is it getting water here? No, ok why not. Is it getting power here? No, ok that's why there's no water. Why isn't it getting power? At the start there are many reasons why it's not working. I just try to go through and eliminate possible culprits.
