Wow, to hear someone actually talk about wanting to kill themselves that openly, is like. Huge. I've been thinking he's incredible as an actor, but he's incredible as a person too.

Another famous writer from the early 1900's named George Sterling would openly talk about suicide. He carried a vial of cyanide in his pocket for many years. When people asked about it he said, "A prison becomes a home if you have the key". He ended up using it in November 1926, his body was later found at his San Francisco home. One of my favorite quotes of all time is "A prison becomes a home if you have the key."

Stabsnipers Wow. Thank you. I’ve never heard of George Sterling before. But I definitely know about my own version of a vial of cyanide - I spent my teenage years with a bottle of alcohol & a knife hidden under my bed. I promised myself every morning that if the last tiny bit of hope I held onto disappeared that day, I was allowed to kill myself that night. My home was a nightmare of abuse and neglect. I was trapped in a prison but I held the only key I could, the ultimate decision of when, how & why my life would end. In sharing George Sterling's story & quote here you’ve given me a new perspective on my own history. I’m sorry that he used his key, but for those of us that don’t fear our own deaths, we’re much more likely to eventually commit suicide. It’s hard to fear something that becomes a friend and solace in our worst moments. Hard to fear the ultimate freedom from what torments us. I don’t think my key turned my prison into a home, but what it did for sure was keep me going until I could make my own home for myself. Thank you for sharing.

@@carrotcake6572 What is destructive about "A prison becomes a home if you have the key."? The quote literally has nothing to do with anything destructive whatsoever. Sterling used it as a metaphor for life. "I want to use cyanide to kill myself" would be an example of a destructive quote.

I sobered up from drugs a few months ago and this kinda shocked me because my story is so similar. I also am in my twenties, went to NYC, failed at NYC, started a theatre company that no one went to and then failed, and didn't kill myself because I thought my cat would miss me. It took me a long time to realize that drugs were the problem in my life and I've been sober six months this coming month. Thanks for talking about this, Mr. Harbour! I'm starting to like David a lot more than I used to. With all his supporting roles in films that I've watched it's like how could hardly care about him - but that's obviously because he was a supporting role. But when I started to watch Stranger Things and the good Duffer brothers gave him the opportunity of being one of the lead actors, he executed his role so damn well, I hope he'll get more lead role opportunities.

Been through all that myself... When I was 23 my mum died and she meant the world to me. I grew up with domestic violence and saw her suffer a lot because of my father.. Her death drove me over the edge and I started drinking every day pretty much until I was about 33. I lost all of my friends because I was a terrible person to them and then my girlfriend of 5 years left me as well and she was the only person who had truly loved me and believed in me. I was alone with no friends, no stable home and running out of money fast.. Those were some of the darkest months of my life. I gave up alcohol 4 years ago and I now have more in my life than I've EVER had. Fantastic friends, my creativity and music has come back and everything! (I've been a singer, pianist, musician, writer and traditional artist for 27 years. I've been a digital artist, 3D model artist and sculptor, texture artist and animator, using said skills to work with games engines (including Halo CE engine, Source, Unreal 3, Unreal 4 and Unity), for 18 years. I also do a lot of mechanical engineering.) If I hadn't given up alcohol I don't even know if I'd still be alive to be honest....

I worked in the sports entertainment industry for 5 years and everyone is closed off, miserable, mean, and angry. That led to me having serious anxiety and depression. I finally left that a industry to work in IT and I had that exact moment he is talking about where someone says hello and everyone is very friendly. From working in a place where people don't even say good morning to an extremely friendly environment where people you dont even know smile at you and say good morning is exactly what he described it as…..confusingly wonderful.

Now I can understand why he was so father like to Millie at every interview, why he cares so much, and why he was suddenly giving serious life advices. He went through a super depressing phase, and holded up. David probably fears that: wow! Millie is suddenly a star now. But what, if the world would get a replacement of her after 5 or 10 years, because she won't be a child forever. Look at the life of old celeb brats now. She must have a life off the camera too. Probably he thinks about all the people too. He looks so real.

Addict, 6 years clean. He’s dead on correct. Addiction is the symptom, not the problem, and drugs/alcohol can never fix your heart. So ask for help, go to meetings, and you’ll be surprised how things turn around, fast. It’s hard at first, but you’ll look back realize how utterly miserable you were, and how peaceful you are now. Stop putting it off. You know you need to do it.

@nebulousisgod
@nebulousisgod 4 жыл бұрын
That’s awesome. His story is so similar to my own. I even put my AK-47 in my mouth and almost pulled the trigger but decided my poor mother didn’t deserve such pain. Also I was shooting heroin along with everything else and it took me 10 years to finally get clean and stay clean for more than a few months. But I lost my job, my father died and my fiancé of 9 years left me all at the same damn time. After that I went through the worst kind of Hells you can imagine including witnessing murders, overdoses, my heart stopping, becoming totally homeless for many months in 120 degree heat, etc etc. It took many attempts to stay clean but I have over 3 years now and I my body is so damaged from needles and poison that I can’t even physically use drugs again or I’ll definitely die. It took a lot of suffering to finally push me to have the courage and strength to get through the year-long withdrawal and to get healthy again so I don’t feel like death all the time. Ive worked in addiction treatment on and off for over 6 years now and it’s very rewarding and keeps me in check. Unfortunately it’s also an extremely corrupt business so recently I quit. Looking for better work now. Have a home, car, horse and a dog. It’s been a long hard road and it’s still hard but I’d rather die than be a stupid junkie again. It’s difficult to empathize if you haven’t been through it so I try not to take offense when people tell me they’re just too smart to become an addict and I must be an idiot for doing it. Ignorance must be bliss; but wisdom comes with real reward.

His “before” is me currently. I hope I can reach the peace of mind he seems to feel. It’s an ass kick to work through trauma and depression, but this gives me some hope.

Hey @theoffcamerashow! I’m loving this series on celebrities getting sober. Maybe people are coming to these videos because they need help. Can I make a suggestion? Maybe patterning with a recovery program and then providing their information at the end of the video and a link/phone number in the description? Could help save a lot of lives. Just a thought :)

saturncrush it was scarier Hellboy, a better Hellboy, the only thing i didn’t like abt that movie was the Pig,

Minh Nguyen Great!! I wanted to hear from a fan! The critics roasted that film. I had a feeling that it was biased. Hellboy is supposed to be violent!!

saturncrush movies and games, gotta try it for yourself, can’t rely on reviews. This goes for food too, i guess. Regarding Hellboy, i was stunned when they first showed the teaser image of David getting bulky for the role. Then i saw the negative reviews everywhere, and watched it with a low expectation. Turned out, it exceeded my expectations, except for the Pig’s cgi. I meant Baba yaga’s image was on point. I’ve always been intrigued by Hellboy art regarding the monsters, but seriously wtf happened to the pig haha, he could have been more menacing and scary. And that scene when Hellboy showed full potential, that was epic.

The cat did not save his life. It is not a hero. It did nothing. It just licked its anus, oblivious to everything.

I really appreciate the experiences better shared on these videos. After I watch them I feel like I have a lot in common and have just a little bit more to put in my arsenal. Then, as soon as the video ends there's an Instacy commercial talking about how great it is to have that Cabernet while you're whipping up dinner, better get the Rum for the in-laws coming over and wouldn't a MARTINI be great about this time.... KZfaq Control: He's trying to sober up? Activate "Aw Hell NO"! Algorithm ! Some days you just can't effing win LOL.
