Great video Dawid! I bought one of these Omens last May of 2020 and uploaded a ton of videos on how to replace the cooler and other components. I picked up a 30L back in March (10700F with 2070 Super) (drought in full swing so terrible time to buy but had to be done). It's been an alright system. Not in love with it but good stability/reliability, worked out of the box, and minimal sketchiness. Your review is pretty solid and tracks with my experience with it. The stock cooler on the CPU does get overwhelmed without too much effort. Anyone else buying an Omen highly recommend going for the liquid cooling option.

My gf bought one of these about a year ago or so, right before all the gpu scalping. It has been a great pc so far with no issues at all (her cat actually managed to knock it over and the damn thing is still running very well - nothing broken or out of place). Hers is the 30L variant and came with a gtx 1660 and ryzen 5 3600. It also has wayyy better IO on the back along with better cooling up front. With these HP omens, I'm seeing that they're very hit or miss on some things, but considering how bad prebuilts usually are and how expensive building one is at the moment, I think these can be great PCs
@garycollumbell1396
@garycollumbell1396 Жыл бұрын
I find with the Omens is that the moment you start sticking beefier GPUs than a 2060( the 2060 super can get a bit toasty if it can't get good amounts of air people forget it's has the PCB and memory config of the ig 2070) in them those thermals become a issue same for the CPUs i5s and the 3600 from work just fine anything more than those parts hot and loud

I'd actually love to see a video where you go in and upgrade/modify that HP Omen's insides to the point that it doesn't have uncomfortably hot thermals. Sometimes prebuilts are actually very close to being good gaming solutions, but there are a couple of things holding it back.

@Wigglythegreat2 2 жыл бұрын
@@scottwelch5001 Yes DanKamYouKnow is great at showing you every part of the omen and what you can do to improve thermals in the Omen case. Still there is only so much that you can do with the Omen case. I finally upgraded my Omen case to a BeQuiet 802 which is night and day in terms of thermals and looks and it's built like a tank. It's a bit large and has 7x 140mm case fans, but I wanted room to expand for future upgrades so a larger case is what I wanted. DanKam I believe used a Meshify 2 compact for his case swap and that is a very nice case also and is a lot smaller than the BeQuiet 802. The only thing left from my original HP Omen is the CPU and motherboard. I upgraded the power supply to a Corsair 850 watt, put in a 3060 GPU, upgraded ram, replaced the NVME drive with a WD Black w/heatsink and added 2x Samsung SSDs, upgraded to a Noctua CPU cooler, and upgraded the wifi card to an intel wifi 6 card. My favorite upgrade was the case swap though. It's looks and performs so much better now than the stock Omen case. No more worries about thermal throttling and I can run my i7 CPU at max turbo boost speeds all day and all night now. Whereas the stock Omen case and stock Omen CPU cooler config leads to near instant thermal throttling and decreased performance.

If I were to give the benefit of the doubt, I think the metal covering the top fan mount is so that the negative pressure in the case doesn't just take air from the top opening. That way the air can maybe come from the bottom opening, which would get some fresh air to the gpu?

Initially it was overheating like crazy and shutting down frequently. I had to install liquid cooling (a first for me) and some more fans to drop the temp. But for the price now that it's stable (fingers crossed) it's a great little computer. I use it for gaming, music and animation software. It runs everything I throw at it w only the occasional hiccup.

Fun fact that top panel you think is blocking the vent. those lil plus marks on it are for a philips screw driver to twist the lil squares out to free up the ventilation for a 120mm fan or 120mm AIO.

So a thing about that plate is the top of the case it can be removed once it’s removed you have to push the four plates out then you can either add a 120 mm radiator or 120 mm fan and also I found out the hard way that AIO wouldn’t fit on my motherboard and broke my motherboard I’ve been out of the computer for about four months due to the part shortage

Hey Dawid Love the channel, I've been watching for a year or so now Something that would be really cool for you to do, that literally nobody else does, is when you do these prebuilt reviews and they have a dinky little cooler on the gpu, it would be SO INCREDIBLY COOL AND USEFUL if you would go over the PCB layout and help potential buyers *replace* the cooling solution on the graphics card. It can be such an incredible pain to find compatible waterblocks for OEM cards that it's ridiculous. I had one a while back, I can't remember what it was, but it had what looked like just a blower style 1070 on it. I ended up buying and returning 2 other waterblocks before I found one that worked, and it was a full cover VGA block that didn't actually contact the VRMs on the card. Anyway, yeah. Just a thought I have every time I see one of these prebuilt reviews

I have a pc like this one ( more upgraded one) and it works amazing. These pc are awesome. I have always wanted to build a pc but instead got this since it had great specs which were almost exactly like I wanted and with this you could actually get a graphics card ( at the current time graphics cards were either way overpriced or unavailable).

I have an Omen Obelisk and it is basically identical. I installed a top 120mm exhaust fan on the bracket and also a 120 mm intake on the bottom vents. This helped some, but ultimately the only way I could keep the CPU temps in check and avoid thermal throttling was to install the NOctua U9S chromax cpu cooler. This changed the whole game.

I believe the reason for the metal sheet on top of the pc is so dust doesn't fall into the case as much. Although, I don't see why they wouldn't use the web sheet thing they use on that one part not covered by the metal sheet. My OMEN had the web thing fall the first day, but it works perfectly fine - I just cover the top of the PC with my mousepad when I'm not using it lol

I have the 30L with the R5-5600G and 3060. The front of the case is actually vented well and has a decent fan. I will agree 100% about the on board audio… how on earth did they break that but have an otherwise decently built system?

@fitzmyron
@fitzmyron 2 жыл бұрын
@@eternityvisuals2758 The CPU, GPU, SSD, and power supply are all happily living in new machines. The rest was thrown away rather quickly. Memory was locked at 2400, on board audio was really terrible, motherboard was a stripped OEM with no real expansion, the case RGB was proprietary to that motherboard, and the single intake fan behind the glass didn’t do well on thermals. For an average user, this machine may be great, but it had limitations that didn’t work for my use case.

I suck at building anything. I suck at the most simple forms of cable management for keyboards and stuff. I would mess up so hard. So i paid for my system to be build with the stuff i want (as long as it is compatible). I paid a bit more OFC but now i have great cable management and a perfectly build system in general :D No bloatware, no bullshit. But i assume if you really try hard and look out for reviews then you can definitely find a prebuild from one of the mainbrands thats worth the money. I would never go gaming laptop again though, had 2 - both were just heating elements for my apartment and my hands (ouch) and the OMEN was the worst offender.
