This is definitely the part that makes you see both sides. Caesar only wants peace and doesn’t seek conflict. He knows how destructive humans can be, but isn’t willing to cost ape lives unless he has no choice. Koba meanwhile grew hateful of humans and while he does have a valid point, chances are all the humans who caused him pain are dead now and it’s likely these people have nothing to do with what happened to him.

Humans are sneaky and there will be a faction of them planning ape destruction. Caesar is right in measured responses but the humans must be watched at all times and any aggressive movements spyed and methodically neutralized.

Koba foresaw that giving humans electricity and reviving their civilization would inevitably progress over time into them yet again pursuing biological experimentation which they would need to use future generations of apes for, repeating the cycle.

It's not just that. Koba correctly believes the humans will grow in power and wipe out apes. So human existence is a threat and incompatible with ape survival.

Yeah, not gonna lie. Koba showing his scars and remarking "Human work" is probably one of the more heartbreaking things to hear and see and while you can agree with his actions that followed, he was scarred mentally and emotionally to as he was physically to making any peace with any human was never going to ever happen.

@@nicholasoneal1521 That's not an excuse. Ash was shot by a human earlier in the film. By Koba's logic, Ash has more reason to hate humans than most apes, but he chooses not to. koba's idea makes valid strategical sense. why would you give the human's power, thus giving them the power to become strong enough to oppose the apes? I understand that caesar wants peace, but war could be much more beneficial to preserving the ape colony. by wiping out the remaining humans the threats to the apes would be nullified, and while they are weak, this is the perfect time to strike. even if you didn't want to completely wipe out the humans, letting them access the dam without any restrictions is completely moronic. like really, at the very least, let them operate it but only on the apes turf, so if the humans were to make any agressive moves, the apes could just shut down the power and the humans would be screwed, making it so the apes could use it as a baragaining tool. hell, caesar didn't even ask for anything in return for the dam, he just let it go for free smh

Something I only just noticed is exactly _how_ Caesar accepts Koba's gesture. It's forgiving, sure, but there's a hardness to how he swipes Koba's palm, making his hand bend back a little. It's not dismissive but it's not exactly positive either. It's in a "I'll let you off the hook this time but watch yourself!" kind of way. Hence Koba's expression, he knows he's upset Caesar so he won't listen anymore so leaves. And Caeser looks on after him, his expression softens a little but still seems stoic. At this time, Koba's still a brother to him, but he's still displeased at having his authroity questioned. You can almost imagine, if Caesar had gone after Koba somewhere more private, a more diplomatic dialogue could have happened and maybe the outcome of the film might be different.

I understand why Koba has his hatred for Humans, but it honestly bothered me that he allowed himself to be so blinded by his hate. Because the opening scene with Cesar and Koba on the hunt, you could see the genuine concern and worry Koba had for his friend, his brother if I may say. But Cesar's own remembrance of Wil who took care of him also blinded him. It drifted them apart, and broke their unity. As Koba was so hurt and bothered that Cesar choose the humans over the apes, over him. Than what he did to Cesar, followed by Ash during his onslaught I knew it was over for him. There was no going back

The fact that he let his hate and thirst for dominance consume him was what made him so human. So many of us are unable to let go of our hatred and fear of another person/group/thing, and in the end, it consumes us. At the same time, being completely pacifist won’t keep you safe, there has to be a balance.

The thing is, Koba is a bonobo ape. They are known to be the most docile type of ape, so for Koba to become so violent means he was tortured to a degree it completely changed his nature as an animal. I understand Koba, but him and Cesar had different experiences with humans. Cesar knew that humans can be good, but Koba never got to experience such a thing. They both wanted the apes to thrive and live, but they could not come to the same terms since their experiences were so different.

I don't blame Koba for hating humans. He has every right to hate them. They took him away from his mother and they killed her. They took him away from his caretaker "Mary". They abused and experimented on him, in zoo's and laboratories. So, Koba has every right to hate and not trust humans.

Koba believes Caesar is weak because he is unwilling to fight the humans. When in reality it makes Caesar a very wise leader. A good leader evaluates a situation and looks at all the alternatives and only chooses to fight if there is no other way. If you rush blindly into battle (like Koba) then you loose lives on both sides, which is what happened when Koba took over. Apes lost their lives to a war that could’ve been avoided if Koba hadn’t struck first. This is what Caesar was trying to tell Koba, if peace is an option than a good leader searches for it. War isn’t pretty and anyone who rushes blindly into it is a fool. Koba could have let go of his hatred, but instead he let rage guide him and let his past determine his fate.

I understand why Koba resents humans. I feel that if Ceasar and Koba had a proper conversation on this topic, things would've turned out different. Ceasar could've been more sympathetic and not as harsh with brushing off his opinions; he could've told him maybe about Will, like that Koba could've seen that not all humans are bad. Koba also should've been more open-minded, and if he would've interacted with Malcolm and his family, maybe he wouldn't have gone through with his plans. This was sad because you could tell that Koba and Ceasar had a great bond before humans appeared
@GetterRay
@GetterRay 8 күн бұрын
Koba knew about Will. He saw him at the lab. He knows Will as one of his oppressors. And one of the things about Will is that he isn't purely good. The CEO guy was right to call him out on risks because Will took massive risks in giving Charles the virus at first and he was being a massive hypocrite by saying everyone else isn't being safe. Will was also completely OK with doing experiments on Koba and didn't think about the moral implications that the tests would also give Koba intelligence like Caesar.
@memeahoy5063
@memeahoy5063 8 күн бұрын
@GetterRay I totally agree with you on that but let's not forget that Charles was his dad. Not excusing what he did but we would do anything for our loved ones, and yes he was a hypocrite. When he realized the virus was becoming something more out of his knowledge he tried to stop it tho. I'm just saying Caesar could've told koba how much his father, who was a human loved him, showcasing that not all humans are bad. I don't think even Blue eyes knew about will, it seemed like something he kept to himself, but I could be wrong. Caesar also should've been more compassionate towards Koba on his opinions on humans, he would just assert dominance when it would get a bit out of hand. That's why they needed a proper conversation on the human subject imo. If not will, then Malcolm could've been a good example

True. Caesar clearly hasn't read history books. During the colonization era, the natives allowed the colonists to build outposts and small towns in the coasts. Generations later, the entire region would belong to said colonists, while the natives were either wiped out, enslaved, forced to migrate, had to make treaties or placed into reservations. Humans, as a species, aren't content in living in just one place. They feel the need to explore, to colonize other places, to expand...

Well, we can see that Koba's plan was dumb and had major repercussions. Blindly attacking the human settlement resulted in them contacting other humans for help, which was the military in WFTPOTA. Koba had no planning, no intel on what kind of connections the humans had. He wasn't methodical, but rash and impulsive. And what if the apes lost that battle against the humans in Dawn? Half of the ape colony's population would've been exterminated right then and there. Ceaser was valid in saying they shouldn't have attacked the humans and should've tried to maintain harmony. Warfare is the last thing any group wants. The level of loss on both sides would be utterly catastrophic, which Dawn proved to be the case. Also, thanks to Koba's actions now the military and potentially other human groups within the US or even the world know these advanced primates exist and could hunt them all down in the future. Koba seriously jeopardized the safety of his entire race due to his thirst for vengeance.

It's painful to watch Caesar poorly handle Koba's rightful concerns. Up until he chimped out and got confiscated to an ape prison, Caesar had grown up seeing the best in humans, and doesn't want to believe these humans will turn on them. Rather than admit any sense of concern over the future and relate to Koba, he just browbeats his authority, which doesn't help Koba at all. Eventually Koba snaps and it comes to a violent confrontation because Koba takes the whole thing personally and decides to lash out at Caesar over it, forcing a dominance display and in doing so crushing the last chance at Koba and Caesar sharing a peaceful future as apes. Caesar spent much of the movie using intimidation to stay on top rather than reason, and it clearly _doesn't work out._

Looking back, I really like the nuance of their arguments. While Ceasar is "blinded" by his dismay of killing, he's not wrong that co-operating with the humans was the best chance at peace. They would've attacked them for the dam if the apes refused access, and before Koba discovered that arsenal of guns, the apes would've failed to destroy the human city or at least suffered tremendous casualties (maybe they would've succeeded in a raid, but not after announcing their existence to the city). But he should've demanded something in return, like hostages or guns or technology or information on the rest of humanity instead of giving access freely. For all he knew, a massive human army could've been right around the corner. Koba at first points out valid concerns, like making the humans more dangerous with no benefit to the apes (other than keeping them from being attacked for the time being), but he clearly overrestimates what the apes can do, is indifferent to ape casualties or is too emotional.

I don't know where exactly I read it, but it stated something along the lines that Koba had been "difficult" and "aggressive" even before testing began - it's quite possible he was suffering from some sort of simian form of psychopathy which became worse by his experiences in life later - remember many other apes were also kept in laboratories, yet none of them were as bloodthirsty, sadistic and remorseless as him.
