The common Field Lily grows wild along the roadside, in the Meadow and fields, but did you know that it is completely edible, and quite tasty?!

Hello Jeri, my name is Val. I'm an Intensive Care Nurse in England UK. I have watched all your beautiful films multiple times. I just wanted you to know that they have helped me through some very dark and difficult days nursing the most critically-ill patient's suffering from Covid-19. Watching your films from my hospital accommodation room (I moved here to protect my family) transported me to your garden; I had tea with the girls (rabbits) & even ordered some of your teas to try, I added to my teapots and tableware collections. I was with you (in spirit) in your beautiful garden and making soup in your kitchen. I too love wildlife, I'm an avid gardener (cottage gardener). I adore rabbits and books... we share so many interests. As a member of the National Trust here in England I've been to Beatrix's Hill Top Farm many times with my children and with my granddaughter. I can't thank you enough for sharing your beautiful home, garden and treasures & for taking the time to make these beautiful films. I will continue to watch them over and over.... simply wonderful!!!
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the very lovely comments! Thank you for your Nursing skills and sacrifice as well. Oh How I would love to join the National Trust and visit ALL of the Heritage sites in England, especially Hill Top. So far, I've only been a Virtual visitor, but a huge history lover with a long English heritage. I hope I get there one day!
@valrogers52514 жыл бұрын
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Dear Jeri, if you ever make it here, give me a shout and I'll join you for afternoon tea :) The Lakes is unspoiled thanks to Beatrix and the wonderful work of the National Trust, she would recognize it without any difficulty. The first time I visited Hill Top they had a fire burning in the hearth and all her belongings are still in the farmhouse, it was as if she'd just popped out. I took a photo by her door copying her own image, the marks where the rose grew up the wall are still visible. They plant the garden as she did to maintain the history. The Lake District is my favourite part of the UK, autumn is breathtaking. Under normal conditions I'd visit every couple of weeks, it has a completely different look with it's winding lanes and stone walling that nature adorns. Hawkshead is adorable and would have been where Beatrix did her shopping, also where William Wordsworth went to school (you can visit the old school). Lastly, I'm a huge Dickens fan, a few yrs ago I went to his home in Doughty Street London... so you see, we are such similar creatures. Stay safe and well, thank you for taking the time to reply, kindest regards Val.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I hadn't seen them until the day I saw them at our garden center. The plants are 3 years old this year and they got maybe a foot to a foot and a half tall. I don't have enough of them to try for food, yet, but maybe I'll go find a friend with a big patch of them to ask for a "bite or 2" to try. They looked so yummy all the different ways you prepared them! I have a question that is regarding your bunnies on the table. I know you make them, yourself. I'm amazed! This was just so amazing & so very interesting! My Dad raised Day Lilies ad far as I can remember. We still are benefiting from all the varieties he had planted so many years later. My Mom & I ordered some Purple & Lavender ones last year to add to the mix & they were absolutely stunning. I noticed just today big buds on some of the plants so our blooms should be coming on anytime. My Mom & I have added edible flowers to salads & things thru the years, but somehow we missed this one! Now that we know...😄 Btw...did you know Dahlia tubers were edible? My parents & grandparents belonged to the Dahlia Society for years. In fact, if you go to the National Dahlia Society webpage they may have some of the recipes for cooking the tubers.

I bought some of these ditch lilies last year and got a couple blooms this year, but next year I'm sure I'll have many more. They grow well around here, many people in the towns near me (I'm in the country) have them in their yards. I've always loved them, but only learned last year that they're edible! I've been trying to plant all sorts of edible perennial ornamentals in my garden, yard and orchard as part of my permaculture efforts, so daylilies top the list for getting lots of them planted. I'm planting Daylilies, Rose of Sharon (Althea), Rugosa roses that form large rose hips, hostas, hollyhocks, edible alliums and perennial onions, scarlet runner beans, sunchokes, elderberry, and more, and all sorts of herbs too. (With mixed results and successes, but I'll keep trying.) And learning what I can forage around here too. Thanks for this video, I really enjoyed it, and look forward to all your videos. I love the green ceramics too. I have some of those very pieces and truly love all things majolica. Thanks so much for sharing with us! Love the limeade tea too, I will have to try that!

What a beautiful and interesting video. I really enjoyed the music and editing. I like to save the stalks of my lilies once they have dried on the plant. They are very sturdy and can be used in arrangements and crafts. 💗

Good afternoon Jeri!! It was so lovely to see your face and see your beautiful garden!! I grow cranberry hibiscus and eat the leaves and flowers that bloom usually I throw them in my salad since I have this plant all around my home, never thought of eating Daylillies, you learn something new every day :0)

I usually edit OUT my face, but decided to leave it in this time. How nice it must be to put Hibiscus in the salad... the colors must be marvelous.

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Yes the colors are divine!! Deep purple and the flowers are white and deep purple/pink colors, your need to grow them, they are easy to propagate and easy to grow from seeds also.
