The guitarist is Lindsey Buckingham, her ex boyfriend. When Mick Fleetwood asked Lindsey to join Fleetwood Mac, Lindsey said that he was in just as long as he could bring his girlfriend (Stevie of course) along as another member of the band cuz they were a package deal. The twosome were literally struggling prior to joining the band. Stevie cleaned houses, and gigs were few and far between. They did put out their own album but it went nowhere. However, after joining Fleetwood Mac, everything changed and it happened quickly. Fleetwood Mac which was an English rock band had moderate success in the 60s, but after Lindsey and Stevie joined the group, it's as if it was meant to be. John McVie on bass guitar, Christie McVie on keyboards, and Mick Fleetwood on drums along with their two newest members had a unique chemistry. These talented musicians created a stand alone sonic experience that many have tried to imitate, but have never come close to reproducing. The early to mid 70s reincarnation of "Fleetwood Mac" went onto sell millions of albums worldwide and sold out arenas. This legendary band has earned it's place in the rock N roll hall of fame. Oh yeah, I suggest that u give a listen to "Sara", the remastered version by Fleetwood Mac. Stevie said she was suffering from a cold when the song was being recorded, but you'd never know it. The vocals are the magical blending of the voices of Lindsey, Stevie, and Christie. Christie is also sprinkling faerie dust over the keyboards. The melodies that she is producing from her keyboard on this track (Sara) are both whimsical, and ethereal. The same latter description(s) can be used for the vocal arrangements as well.

Christine had the final say-so. Mick and John were afraid two women wouldn't get along. They all met at a Mexican restaurant in Santa Monica to see how well they all could get along. They had a blast. With a wink and a nod, Christine gave her approval to Mick and John. Buckingham Nicks joined Fleetwood Mac on 12/31/74 and the rest is history.

I was fortunate enough to be Stevie's neighbor in the late 70's & early 80's. They were on tour a lot, but I did get a chance to talk to her every few months when they'd be back in LA. One of the greatest female artists in the history of rock.

Can you believe that this was the world's introduction to Stevie and Lindsey Buckingham as members of Fleetwood Mac?! And btw, Stevie was a throw in in the Lindsey Buckingham sweepstakes. FM wanted Lindsey, but he refused to join unless they took his girlfriend, too. Said girlfriend has gone on to became pretty much the undisputed Queen of Rock. It all started with this performance. The band's musicianship is impeccable, and yes, Lindsey's solo is sick! This version is better than the recorded version, in my opinion. Stevie changes up the lyrics here, Lindsey adds that guitar solo, and Christine has a solo on keyboards. None of that is on the recorded version. This is about as good as it gets!

Welcome to the enchantment that is Stevie Nicks! Once you've fallen under her spell, you can never break free. There is soooooo much more of her both with Fleetwood Mac and her solo work. She is the only female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of fame two times........for her work with her group and for her solo artistry.

Stevie would have gone nowhere without Lindsey's help. In FM, she wasn't doing well and her songs were being rejected by the group, and it was Lindsey's reworking of her songs that got them on their albums. She became a very conceited beast, just the same. By the past you all probably already know about, you know this is true. It was her attitude and her sleeping with Mick Fleetwood that caused the writing of their best and most famous songs, which were really about them both airing their dirty laundry in public. After she did her first single (solo), I caught her on a radio show bragging that she could write a hit song every 6 months if she wanted to ... that it was no big deal. She was a good singer on her own, but she was a GREAT one when Lindsey was orchestrating and arranging the groups music. I have a feeling that it was her independence and adultery that broke the group up. The rest they probably could've worked out.

Three song writers here. Stevie, Christine the piano player, and Lindsey the guitar player. All sing lead and harmony. All great in their own right. Some casual listeners are surprised to find all their songs are from one band. This is a deep rabbit hole to explore. And we haven’t even touched on a gentleman named Peter Green.

Mesmerized is a good word, because the song's lyrics were inspired by a character in a novel ("Triad" by Mary Bartlett Leder) who was possessed by another woman named Rhiannon, also the name of a Welsh goddess. As a kid in the seventies, I thought it was about some supernatural spirit woman like a witch or something.

I agree, Angela, mesmerizing. Your comment cracked me up because I know exactly what you mean. :-) You should check out the live version of “Silver Spring“. It’s about Stevie‘s love affair with the guitarist, Lindsey Buckingham, (same one as in this video) which had been happening before they joined Fleetwood Mac. They eventually broke up.Really intense. It has brought me to tears. Could get blocked but it’s definitely something I think you’d like to see. The version is years later after their break up but you can tell it still means a lot to both of them. They’re looking at each other during the performance. Really takes me back. Great memories. For over a decade...close to 20 years... they had the best selling album of all time, Dreams. I wore out the vinyl record, the cassette tape twice and the CD once. The guitarist Lindsey Buckingham also sing some great leads, as does the keyboardist Christine MacVie. They each have their own unique sound while still sounding exactly like Fleetwood Mac as a whole. A bit of trivia, the lady who introduced them is Helen Reddy who was already a big star in her own right. Her song " I Am Woman" was an anthem during the Women's Lib movement.

Great song great reaction. Stevie wrote this song after reading the book Rhiannon ( she was a great reader and writer) In the beginning you hear her say this is about an old Welsh witch. No wonder she mesmerized you, she loved scarey spooky stuff lol. And yes she's very much a free spirit flower child. The whole band is great. The guy who played the guitar solo is Lindsey Buckingham. He and Stevie lived together for many years before breaking up. He is self taught. Notice he uses no guitar pick. The keyboardist is Christine McVie. She had many hits with the bang (Songbird, Everywhere, Over my head) her husband was the bass guitarist John McVie and the drummer was the band creator Mick Fleetwood. Stevie is the only woman inducted into rock and roll hall of Fame twice. Once with Fleetwood Mac and once for her amazing solo career (Landslide, edge of seventeen)

Rhiannon is a figure in Welsh mythology. That's who the song is about, or at least what inspired Stevie to write the song. In one live version Stevie refers to her as a Welsh witch, although witch is probably not the right term to describe her.

Rhiannon was/is more of a Goddess dedicated to horses than a witch. Though I suppose that as with most mythology, it just depends on which version you're looking at, since there are variations in the stories.

Stevie Nick IS spell-binding, and was fondly nicknamed the "Welsh Witch". She is awesome even today. Fleetwood Mac was commonly known as a Power Blues Band since it's inception in 1967 and gained only a cult following, until the founder Peter Green left the band around 1971 then in 1975 they asked Lindsey Buckingham to be their guitarist, and he agreed ONLY if his then girlfriend Stevie could join. They had produced an album "Buckingham/Nicks" together earlier. Fleetwood Mac then became more "Pop" oriented and dropped the album "Rumors" in 1975, (You MUST listen to this album !! It's a CLASSIC !!), and they became an overnight sensation with the addition of Buckingham/Nicks.
