DCS 2.7: Enigma's Cold War Server Huey vs Hinds

Hey guys! Today we are back on the cold war server by Enigma to try and get some troop insertions done. We come across one very unlucky Hip and a couple of unlucky Hinds along the way. If you fly on this server and want to see how to go against Hinds, this video might help you. If you're a Hind pilot getting shot down by the Huey, hopefully this demonstrates what it looks like on the other end so you can adjust your tactics accordingly!
If you guys haven't tried the server out, give it a whirl. I can only imagine it gaining more popularity as more cold war aircraft come out like the Mirage F-1, the F-4, and some others.

Love the videos. You made me want to get involved on the server, and I've done a few sorties already. Really cool. I especially like the helo Vs helo opportunities and the need to hide from enemy jets- it really gets the heart pumping. Also the fact that there's pretty much always constant comms on enemy movements, is awesome. It really adds to the realism. I'm addicted now. Hopefully they'll include cow slinging soon haha.

Awesome to hear that! Yeah the action on the server keeps me coming back and it gets 100% of my DCS flying time. There’s always something going on and in a helicopter you are always having to watch out for all sorts of threats. A lot of fun!

this is a great video! it gives a different perspective on the dcs battlefield from a choppers pov. although i dont prefer enigmas server due to the super high player count, this was still a very interesting video nonetheless, great job!!

Thank you! What don't you like about the high player count? Do things get extra laggy for you? I find it fun working around a lot of other folks but some nights the FPS gets incredibly low during heavy battles.

@@ryu1940 the server itself is a brilliant idea and I totally support the idea of it all. I just don’t like high pop servers bc getting into 1v5 situations all the time just isn’t very fun for me. My piloting skills are fair but not nearly great enough to take on that many opponents at once

Ah yeah it can be like that sometimes but when there is a human GCI on and folks use SRS, it’s amazingly fun. Sometimes it’s like that for helicopters as well.

Excellent flying and use of intelligent tactics! Fighting the Hind with a Huey is definitely an asymmetric battle. One note, on your initial attack against the hind, where it is still unaware of your presence, I wonder if getting up close and personal and dumping rockets on him would be more effective rather than scaring him with mini gun fire. While more risky, this attack (when successful) would do far more damage to the hind and possibly kill him before he gets a chance to run. I’ve done some testing and the large HE rocket pods are the best tool for the job against these flying tanks. I noticed that you had the rocket pods loaded on your aircraft but did not utilize them in your attacks. Let me know your thoughts on this modification to your attack! Us Huey pilots need all the help we can get against those blasted hinds on the Cold War server.

Sure is asymmetric. The Huey with those AI gunners is amazing at auto-killing enemy helicopters. Have ripped Ka-50s with them easily just flying in circles. The Hind pilot has to fly and aim everything himself.

I usually don’t use rockets unless the enemy is out front and very low to the ground so if I miss I can still hope for splash damage to affect them. I’m very bad at aiming rockets so while in this situation the 1st Hind presented a very big broadside, most situations I find myself in are glancing shots and I would likely not be successful. I think if you’re good at aiming then it’s certainly nice to get a lucky hit but for the most part 3-5 seconds of direct hits from the gun will likely bring down any Hind I’ve encountered. I’m curious to see if anything changes when the Hinds get a2a missiles though I suspect many of them will use them on the plethora of jet aircraft who are bigger threats.

@@peterrovaniemi138 on the flip side I’ve seen some pretty crazy petervich atgm air to air kills on KZfaq (someone named something like crazygman has videos of him downing Viggens on this server with it).

Can't get external views, etc when playing normally..... Do you make your videos using track files after the fact?

Yes. They are not allowed during the flight. You need to modify the track file after the mission is over and change the f2 and f10 rules.

I forgot what the bindings are but I think they are something with ROE in them when you search the keybinds. There should be a doorgunner keybind for burst length and ROE. There should also be a separate one for copilot.

everytime I try to get my gunners to fire - set to free fire and long burst, they don't do squat

It can be a little tricky. Sometimes you really need to make it so the gunner is completely inline with the target. It can be annoying. Also I’ve found it necessary to sometimes to cycle the ROE on and off. Sometimes it seems to help.
