This is intended to assist DCS players on how to accurately attack ground targets using the LITENING II pod in DCS A-10C. Your targeting pod is one of the best weapons in the game, so take advantage of it! The walkthrough includes:
- What the TGP does, and how the different ranging methods work.
- TGP bootup process.
- How to avoid misdesignating a markpoint.
- How to use the laser rangefinder to fine-tune your markpoints.
- How to get the most out of line-of-sight mode when creating your markpoints.
Thanks to everyone in the eagle dynamics forums who participated in the "slant range" discussion thread, and thank you, Eagle Dynamics, for releasing open beta 2! You can prepurchase and gain beta access at www.digitalcombatsimulator.com . Thanks for watching.

You will be gratified to know this video (even 6 years later) is one of the best I've ever seen. Lot's of people make instruction vids, but don't tell you what they're doing or do not explain WTF is going on. This is one of the best & most helpful I've seen yet.

Just want to let you know how much your work is appreciated. Your instructions help people understand concepts that are buried in the manual that would otherwise take days to figure out. Thanks. If you are ever looking for suggestions on other topics to cover, I along with others struggle with locating targets. Any techniques you might have for searching would be great. Thx again.

I have probably spent a few hours learning goodies tonight, I never knew about setting the SPI by creating waypoints like this. Seems pretty awesome for static targets, thanks for the video. I'm still learning but I seem to be getting the hang of using the map and targetting pod to create an SPI and slave all the sensors to it. I bet it seems trivial to people that have played this for a while but man this game is challenging to learn and yet so much fun.

Love this video...helped enormously when I was learning the 'hog a few years ago. Now with the development of the Hornet, it seems a lot of people are unaware of this point...and as far as I can tell, the Hornet pod can't do this yet.

You have to love military aviation and or like me, be totally in love with the A-10A+C, If you have a passion for this amazing plane and it's wonderful to really know about its combat and development history. For instance, the A-10 can totally lose hydraulics and any mechanical parts connected to that system because it has a completely separate backup cable/pulley system called Manual Reversion and its saved countless lives and got planes home that otherwise should have ejected.

Well, you're right on one point, it's pretty complicated but with all the new systems and new technology you need more buttons. For example, back in WW2 almost everyone could fly an aircraft to some extent because the controls were so easy to understand and it was all hydraulics. Yet with the new electronic systems you simply can't have that few buttons. :) And it's more like -used- to have 200 buttons and now there's 5000 xD

It has self sealing fuel tanks with a mixed flame retardant to protect from fuel leakage and explosion also unlike other planes, the fuel is not kept in the vulnerable wings but in the center fuselage and in 4 separate armored tank, If one is breached the fuel is dumped and weight distributed. The pilot is protected within a bathtub shaped shield of titanium capable taking a direct impact from around a 60mm sized cannon. Even the look of the plane has a defensive purpose. @mcmike606060 Thanks for your feedback! To be honest, the best advice I can give is to scan with the pod and scan visually (using a zoomed in view). That is, if you're not using labels. Don't expect to be able to see guys running around on the ground from up high. The FLIR mode on the POD is good for vehicle spotting.

Hi thanks for posting these tutorial vids theyve been a real help, ive only had the Hog for about a week now and just started dropping ordinance after familiarising myself with basic ops of the aircraft. ok my question is about the tgt marking ive found that targetting with the laser on,at around 3-5 thousand feet my bombs are still way off by mayby 20-30 mtrs then other times at the same alt there bang-on?do i just need to fly higher? im using beta 4 incidentally.

Great tutorial I echo McMike6060. I just have a few questions. When you pickle the Jdam after already designating with LOS and LZR do you have to have the lazer still fired so many seconds before impact or is it already a done deal? I couldn't see the Lzr L blinking before impact. I'm just beginning last comment I left you I asked you what Auto Pilot was. But I'm coming along and I'm just trying to get this straightened out. Ty

Very nice Video. I do the whole procedure like you did in this video. But my JDAM are ALLWAYS off the target. They hit the mark point exactly, but these mark points are off the target. I knoe the difference of area and point mode, and I allways used the laser ranging to set the mark points. Do you set the mark point as SPI before pickle the GBU? Do you use Singleplayer, or MP?

and the side stabilizer wings provide aft/starboard cover as well from side incoming IR guided missiles..Ever notice that big black circle on the bottom directly below the cockpit? that's used to confuse enemy fighters because from a distance the A-10 is hard to distinguish top/bottom,so the black circle is a fake cockpit and can fool an enemy fighter to make a deadly mistake and misjudge the A-10's turn direction The list just goes on and learning how to play DCS A-10C is GREAT on you learn it

Oh AND even if all 4 of the fuel tanks are destroyed,, the A-10 STILL has two self-sealing sump tanks that give about 250nmi to get ya home. as for the engines, they use a turbine that produces much more power than a multi turbo compressor uses and converts that excess power to drive a ducted fan to then accelerate air from the front of the engine rearwards nozzle. This uses much less fuel and heat but what heat it does produce is sent over the top of the tail-wings which blocks it from below

First of all, LOVE your vids. DCS makes beautifull games too bad I don't have the time to play it, nore the pc.. Nore the skill... (video tutorials don't really help... liked the falcon 4 approach of learning more) But about the vid... At 1:07 you can see the laser in infrared.. I never tought about this but if the targeting pod is switched on it emits a laser right ? Does that mean that The a-10 is very clearly visible as a large line of light in the darkness while wearing night goggles ?

A JDAM is a GPS guided weapon, thus it wont react if you fire the laser while its in flight, instead it will try to hit the coordinates you designated it to. Because of this, you dont need to fire the laser, the only usage of it here is to get accurate coordinates as explained in the video.

Jdams doesnt need to be lased but the laser is used for ''marking'' the object otherwise without the laser the computer marks the terrain as the video says.Gbus are laser dependent if you dont lase them correctly they will not hit the location you wanted.
@oneflyline96
@oneflyline96 6 жыл бұрын
Nomad it depends on what gnu you are using. Gbu-10 and gbu-12 are laser guided, but the 31's and 38's are gps guided. Once you laser the target it send the target info to the gps guide bomb and you basically release and forget.

@WaterIsPoison18 You were playing in Sim mode right? You need to disable the Game Flight Mode and Game Avionics mode under Options -> Gameplay otherwise it defaults to arcade style. If you'd already done that then hopefully the flight model will be adjusted during the rest of beta so you can enjoy it more.

yea that would make sense lol and i suppose after a shit ton of training and study all those buttons would look alot less like clutter and more like usable instruments and tools. but i would still think things should be streamlined as much as possible because in actual combat i would think your stress would be red lined which could cause some troubles but im not a pilot at all lol so maybe it is already really streamlined and maybe they used to have 5000 buttons instead of 200 lol

There is no realistic FLIR simulation at the moment. BHOT and WHOT modes are just color filters, so they are useless when target color is close to ground texture color.

TheSpinyMouse Yeah most of the time sometimes it helps but nowhere near where it should be indeed so all that really helps is large model size or enable the f10 map with enemies
@Maverickf22flyer

Exactly! But somehow, in the past, even with color filtering mode you were able to see target vehicles much easier and distinguish them from the surrounding, but now it became impossible after the last patches. Instead of making it better, they were genius enough to make it worse than it was.
